Easy win for Pak in these home conditions.

Chase, Cottrell and Mayers unavailable for T20I Series in Pakistan after COVID-19 positive tests

ST JOHN’S, Antigua — Following PCR tests administered on arrival in Pakistan, Cricket West Indies (CWI) can confirm that four members of the West Indies touring party have tested positive for COVID-19 and will now undergo a period of self-isolation.

Left-arm pacer Sheldon Cottrell, allrounders Roston Chase and Kyle Mayers, along with a non-coaching member of the team management unit returned positive tests in Karachi and will therefore be unavailable to participate in the upcoming Pakistan series. All four members are fully vaccinated and are without major symptoms.

Johnny Grave, CEO of CWI said: “Our arrival testing protocols in Pakistan have confirmed four (4) COVID-19 positives. These were confirmed whilst the players and staff were still in room isolation, so despite this significant setback to our preparation plans, we are confident that the tour can continue as everyone else returned negative PCRs prior to their arrival into Pakistan and two negative PCRs since they have been in Karachi. The risk of COVID-19 infection is impossible to remove completely from a cricket tour, in spite of the fact that many of our players have been living in bio-secure bubbles almost continuously since before the CPL. This unusual loss of three players from our squad will seriously impact our team preparations, but the rest of the squad are in good spirits and will begin training today ahead of our first game on Monday.”

All four individuals will remain isolated from the rest of the West Indies squad and are now under the care and supervision of the Team Physician, Dr Akshai Mansingh. They will remain in isolation for ten (10) days and until they return negative PCR test results.

The three-match T20I Series starts on Monday, December 13 and will be played at the Karachi National Stadium.

Off the back of winning 5 out of 6 games at the WC and in home conditions, a win should be demanded of this side.

We should walk this one. Confident of winning without being cocky.

Apparently only 30% of tickets have been sold. Pakistanis have not much interest in cricket, and this is despite having a really good World Cup and also after cricket being played for the first time in two years.

And same with PSL not much hype. No wonder PCB is running in loses and the county’s economy is not helping either

Pakistan captain Babar Azam has highly praised interim head coach Saqlain Mushtaq, who has been very helpful to the side during his short stint.

Saqlain was given the charge on an interim basis after Misbahul Haq resigned from the position before the postponed New Zealand series.

The 27-year-old revealed that Saqlain has been very supportive and backs every individual in the team.

"Saqlain Mushtaq always backs us. He sits with us and discusses plans which is best for the team. Saqlain Mushtaq suggests to players that Pakistan should be at first priority because we play for a nation of twenty-two crore and we owe to give them happiness," Babar said in a pre-series virtual presser.

Meanwhile, Babar welcomed the West Indies side in Pakistan and is determined to play their best cricket in the series despite there being lesser big names in the visiting squad.

"We give a warm welcome to WestIndies in Pakistan. After cancellation of the New Zealand and England tour we were unclear whether other teams will come to Pakistan or not but they always supported us," he added.

"We will try to maintain our performance [the team is] continuing to show since the T20 World Cup 2021. Always there is a debate that big names are not part of the squad but we can't take them lightly," he maintained.

Leg-spinner Shadab Khan, in a statement, said, that players are ready to lay down their lives for Babar. The No.1 ranked T20I batter opined that a positive environment is necessary in the dressing room and he tries to support every player.

"As captain, you've to build a supportive environment for your teammates as players demand encouragement when they're down in performance. My players listen and take responsibility. We only have performance and hard work in our hands and that's what we believe in," he added.

It must be noted that the Men in Green will lock horns with the Caribbean side in the three-match T20I series and as many ODIs from tomorrow at the National Stadium in Karachi.

Andre Russell playing Big bash and never in Pakistan or PSL

Watch how this mercenary will want a PSL contract when he turns 36 and we will shamelessly give him one!

Karachites and Lahoris are thanday. Moreover, too many matches at those venues has decreased their appetite.

Smaller venues like Faislabad, Pindi, Sialkot, Multan, Peshawar etc will give full houses but security arrangements are an issue.

What is the likelihood/frequency that people will turn up “on the day” if they fancy it?

In the past, I always associated Pakistan crowds with being packed out and full of noise.

Pakistan is the only nation who plays the least amount of international cricket on a weekend.

The first game should have been played today (Sunday).

Russell has played PSL quite a few times

OMG 😲 a WC like trophy 🏆 for a meaningless series PCB should be vigilant in terms of security and ensure all goes according to plan more than on field performance the administrative and security preparations should be top notch

Nicholas Pooran, West Indies T20 captain for the tour of Pakistan that begins on Monday, believes the absence of Kyle Mayers, Sheldon Cottrell and Roston Chase for the series, presents opportunities for other players to show what they are worth.

The three players tested positive for Covid-19 on arrival in Pakistan last week and have been ruled out of the tour that involves three T20 internationals and three ODI’s from December 13 to 22.

While describing the situation as being ‘unfortunate’, the Trinidadian, who is leading the team in the absence of the injured Kieron Pollard, said that while the unavailability of the three players will disrupt their initial plans, he believes it presents a chance for others to take advantage.

“(The) selectors and coaches had original plans on what the 11 would look like, who was going to play, who wasn’t going to play,” Pooran told members of the media Sunday.

“When saying that, other guys are going to get the opportunity to showcase their talent and abilities, so we are looking forward to seeing those guys take their opportunity.”

The three players out with Covid is expected to have a major impact on the team that is already without several of its senior players including Andre Russell, Jason Holder, Shimron Hetmyer and Evin Lewis.

In their absence players like Odean Smith, Gudakesh Motie, Dominic Drakes, Justin Greaves and Shamarh Brooks, are among those aiming to cement a place in the team that has begun a process of rebuilding following a disastrous ICC T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates where the West Indies was eliminated in the group stage after winning only one of their five matches.

Pooran said he is excited to see what the new players will bring to the team.

“It’s obviously a new rebuilding stage for us now. It is unfortunate that we don’t have other senior players here but when saying that I am very excited to see this new crop of players get onto that cricket field,” he said.

“I believe that there are a lot of talented players here, a lot of special players, especially when it comes to the shorter form of the game so I am very excited to see what’s going to happen on the cricket field. I am looking forward to seeing us play together, sticking to our plans as much as possible and being hungry for success.”
