Zimbabwe's Elton Chigumbura was the last international captain who visited Pakistan post 2009 terror attacks.

Though no player from his country is a playing member of the World XI team against Pakistan this week except Andy Flower who is a coach, Chigumbura will be following the matches with interest. He said: "I just love watching other teams play and will follow the proceedings in Pakistan. I have been there twice both trips were good. People there love their cricket and I enjoyed it."

Zimbabwe were the first team to play in Pakistan after the Sri Lankan bus was attacked by terrorists in Lahore, but the African players had no issues in 2015.

"Pakistan was safe, the security was good and they did a good job," Chigumbura remarked. Pakistan won the three-match series 2-0 with the final rain-marred ODI ending in a no-result. All their matches were held in Lahore.

"We didn't move cities. We were in one town and there was a mall where we stayed so it was okay. Those who wanted to go shopping just went to the mall," he added.

By Pakistan they mean Lahore only :)

Please look at the bigger picture and put your regional hate aside for a second ~ As much as I disagree with Sethi we have to hand it to him that he is indeed bringing at least some form of cricket back home (And this is coming from a guy who is born and bred in Karachi).

Need to start somewhere

We really need to build stadium in islamabad and hotel near by. This is the first step inshallah once lankans and west indies come it will be step in the right direction.

Absolutely NOT. There is a perfectly functioning stadium in Rawalpindi. Enough of Islamabad's forests have already been chopped down and destroyed. In case you didn't know, temperatures in Islamabad have risen by 7 degree Celsius in the last 5 years alone.

I hope, wish and pray that a stadium is NEVER, EVER built in Islamabad. The only "free" area that they have is our forest and we're not gonna let them cut down the few of the trees we have left. Never.

Agree no need to build stadium n Islamabad when there is functional stadium in Pindi.
Its hardly 10/15 minutes drive from center of Islamabad. And the traffic can also be redirected.

They should build a stadium up in North, maybe Skardu or Gilgit.

With all pre arrangements being made before series in small town.

Read news in March that they will build a stadium in Skurdu. Don't know about the progress.
There is a very nice stadium in Muzaffrbad though. Also in Abotabad which can be made better.

Abottabad is a good option too.

Apart from these, Gawadar can be utilized possibly

Retiring from international cricket at the end of this series.

Elton Chigumbura to retire from international cricket

Zimbabwe veteran Elton Chigumbura is set to retire from international cricket after the conclusion of the ongoing T20I series against Pakistan.

The Zimbabwe all-rounder will bring the curtain down on a 16-year international career that began in 2004. Chigumbura has featured in 14 Tests and 213 ODIs, with 54 T20I matches before the start of his farewell series.

Before the start of the first T20I against Pakistan, the all-rounder had amassed 5761 international runs and 138 wickets to his name, including two hundreds and 26 half-centuries. He also led his side on 80 occasions on the international stage – in 62 ODIs and 18 T20Is.

He is only the second player from Zimbabwe to achieve a double of 4000 runs and 100 wickets in ODI cricket, after Grant Flower.

Chigumbura confirmed his decision in a statement by Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) on Saturday, 7 November. According to ZC, the all-rounder is retiring because "injuries had continued to take a toll on him as well as to pave the way for young blood in the national side".

He played a vital role in his side's famous upset victory over Australia in the 2007 ICC Men's T20 World Cup, in which he returned bowling figures of 3/20 from three overs.

He also represented Zimbabwe in two editions of the U19 Cricket World Cup, in 2002 and 2004, featured in the 2011 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup and led his side in the 2015 edition of the tournament.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has congratulated former Zimbabwe captain Elton Chigumbura for a successful career that saw him compete in all three formats over a period of 16 years.

The 34-year-old, a regular at top ICC events including three Men’s Cricket World Cups and five T20
World Cups, has decided to retire after the T20I series against Pakistan in Rawalpindi.

ICC Chief Executive Manu Sawhney said: "I congratulate Elton for an impressive career that saw him succeed across formats for a number of years. He was a fine ambassador of the game and came up with notable contributions with both bat and ball across formats.

"I hope Elton will continue to be associated with the game after retirement and use his considerable experience to promote the game in his country and outside. On behalf of everyone at the ICC, I wish him all the best for whatever he decides to pursue in the coming years."

Chigumbura, who first shot into prominence during the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2004 in Bangladesh when he starred with the ball in a surprise victory over Australia, established himself in the senior team soon after, making his debut in a home ODI series against Sri Lanka the same year.

The fast bowling all-rounder scored 569 runs and took 21 wickets in 14 Tests but tasted more success in ODI cricket, amassing 4,340 runs and grabbing 101 wickets in 213 matches. He went into Tuesday’s T20I, the 57th and last of his career, with 891 runs and 16 wickets.

Chigumbura played in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cups of 2007, 2011 and 2015, the ICC Men’s T20 World Cups of 2007, 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016, as well as the ICC Champions Trophy tournament in 2004 and 2006.

FORMER Zimbabwe captain, Elton Chigumbura, will double up playing and coaching roles in the upcoming 2020-21 domestic cricket season.

The all-rounder was named one of the assistant coaches at Eagles in the technical appointments made by Zimbabwe Cricket at their last board meeting on Wednesday.

Chigumbura, who is now in the twilight of his career, announced his retirement from international cricket during the recent tour of Pakistan.

He had played 14 Tests, 213 ODIs and 57 T20I matches, when he pulled the curtain down on a career that spanned 16 years.

However, the 34-year-old is still available for domestic cricket, where he will be playing for Eagles, when the first class league gets underway on December 3.

ZC are hoping that his experience will help inspire the new generation of cricketers, who are set to step up on the stage, as the veteran hard-hitting batsman edges closer to his final exit from the game.

The association said they were looking to tap into the expertise of senior players after they also gave player/assistant coaching roles to Cephas Zhuwao, Chris Mpofu, Njabulo Ncube and Shingi Masakadza.

ZC also resolved at their board meeting, to bring back Masvingo-based first class franchise, Southern Rocks.

The outfit last played in the elite domestic competitions in the 2013-14 season when it was dissolved by ZC as part of the streamlining exercise recommended by the International Cricket Council.

They have returned as replacement for the Alistair Campbell High Performance Centre team, which failed to have a new academy intake this year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Rocks will be under the guidance of Shepherd Makunura, who leaves Mountaineers, following a successful run that saw him leading the side to an unprecedented three straight Logan Cup titles in 2017, 2018 and 2019.

He returns to Rocks, where he was part of the team when the Masvingo-based franchise lifted the Metbank Pro40 tournament in 2011.

ZC indicated they were hunting for a new coach for Mountaineers.

“During the meeting, the ZC board also confirmed the coaching structure for the elite provincial sides,’’ ZC said in a statement.

“This will see Shepherd Makunura, who was in charge of Mountaineers, moving to Southern Rocks as their coach.

“His replacement at Mountaineers will be announced in due course.

“Elsewhere, Stuart Matsikenyeri, Walter Chawaguta and Douglas Hondo will remain in charge at Eagles, Rhinos and Tuskers respectively.

“The provincial sides will have the following serving as assistant coaches-cum-team managers: Erick Chauluka (Eagles), Steady Musoso (Mountaineers), Mufaro Chiturumani (Rhinos), Stanley Chioza (Southern Rocks) and Mbekezeli Mabuza (Tuskers).

“The other appointments, include Steady Musoso (Mountaineers), Mufaro Chiturumani (Rhinos), Stanley Chioza (Southern Rocks) and Mbekezeli Mabuza (Tuskers).

“The board also underlined the importance of tapping into the experience of players in the twilight of their careers by getting some veteran cricketers involved at technical level.

“Elton Chigumbura has been appointed as player/assistant coach at Eagles, with Shingi Masakadza, Chris Mpofu, Cephas Zhuwao and Njabulo Ncube taking up similar roles at Mountaineers, Rhinos, Southern Rocks and Tuskers respectively.”

The ZC board also discussed the introduction, and successful running of the inaugural National Premier League, which was won by Takashinga.
