While the PCB keeps ignoring them, Pakistan Women have delivered the country’s biggest cricketing success since the Men's team reached the ICC T20 WC finals in 2022.

Five wins out of five at the World Cup Qualifier — Ireland, Scotland, West Indies, Thailand, Bangladesh — all beaten. Muneeba, Aliya, Sadia, Diana — they stepped up when no one was looking.

No big campaigns, no PR, just pure heart and hard work. Shame that the board gives them zero hype!

Fatima Sana? Making waves as the second-highest wicket-taker right after West Indies' big player Hayley Matthews.

On the other side, PCB’s golden boys crashed badly.

- Loss to Afghanistan in the ICC World Cup in India
- Loss to USA in the ICC T20 World Cup
- Champions Trophy 2025? Flop
- Test white-wash to Bangladesh at home
- Constant humiliation from New Zealand C teams
- Etc Etc Etc

Yet all the noise, all the attention, all the money is still thrown at them. It's the women’s team that saved Pakistan cricket's dignity in the 2020's — and they did it without the PCB even caring.

But maybe this is what helped them...

Mohammad Wasim was appointed head coach of the Pakistan Women's team in June 2024 and is still in charge. Junaid Khan and Abdur Rehman have also stayed on as assistant coaches

Even though the women's results before this weren’t anything special, there was stability, and with that, real improvement over time.

Now look at the Men’s team: Jason Gillespie, Gary Kirsten, Aqib Javed — three different coaches, while Mohammad Wasim stayed steady with the women.

Add to that, constant chopping of captains and selectors after every loss. PCB micromanaged every failure on the men's side... but by ignoring the women, they accidentally allowed actual progress to happen. Ironic when you think about it.... Less PCB involvement, better the results.

What’s truly shameful is the sheer neglect with which women’s cricket is treated in this country. Just look at the value of their central contracts. I doubt the women of any of the top teams are paid this less. On top of that you always have certain people holding them to the same standards as the men's team, despite the fact that there’s nothing equal in terms of opportunity, investment, visibility, infrastructure, or even match exposure.

Mohsin Naqvi shared the following thoughts after Pakistan women's triumph in the ICC Women's World Cup Qualifiers 2025:

“Pakistan’s participation in the next global competition would adhere to the Fusion Formula [the same structure decided upon before to the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025]

“India, as the host, will decide the venue for the matches. Wherever the tournament is held, our team is ready to play, but we will not be traveling to India. Since the agreement is already in place, it will continue as planned.

“This will apply to the upcoming ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 (hosted by Pakistan), set to be played in February and March 2025, as well as the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 (hosted by India) and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 (hosted by India and Sri Lanka),”

How is being neglected by your own board a blessing in disguise?

It's in the OP:

Less reactive moves by the PCB are made when there are losses. Hence Mohammad Wasim (coach of the womens team) has been given a long run compared to the men's coaches. So more sability in women's cricket

I think there is correct.
One of the (many) challenges in Pakistani cricket is the reactive nature of both the governance (PCB) and in the fans.
The women's team have been allowed to operate under the radar and hence have stability.

However, the neglect of team is extremely poor -- the central contracts, investment in growing the game etc is appalling (cf Aus, Eng and India)

The Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the country’s Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi has made it clear that Pakistan’s women's cricket team will not travel to India for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup to be held later in the year.

The statement comes after Pakistan secured its position in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 on Friday after beating Thailand in the Women’s World Cup Qualifier by 87 runs. The PCB Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, said he was happy for the women's cricket team for qualifying for the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025, but added that the team will not travel to India.

“Pakistan team will not travel to India for the World Cup. It is now for India to decide where they will host our matches. Other than India, wherever the matches are hosted, our team will play. But not in India," he said.

India will host the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in September, featuring eight teams, including six already qualified ones. Matches will occur across five cities, with the final in Mullanpur, near Chandigarh.

When asked about why the team cannot travel to India for the World Cup, he said: “This is part of the agreement and the hybrid model. And India will have to abide by it, the way we did during the Champions Trophy," he added.

It is pertinent to note that India is the host nation for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025. However, Pakistan’s matches will not be played in India. The decision stems from a mutual agreement signed and consented to between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) before the Champions Trophy 2025.

At that time, India refused to travel to Pakistan to play their matches. Despite the protest by Pakistan with the ICC (International Cricket Council), it was mutually agreed that neutral venues would be arranged to facilitate cricket matches of the Indian cricket team, given the condition that while PCB accepts the hybrid model, it would also be applicable for matches in India. During the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, the Indian cricket team played its matches in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

It is also pertinent to note that cricket matches between India and Pakistan have been subjected to approvals from their respective governments for years due to the ongoing political tensions.
