So we are at the end of road of another world cup and like always we are now looking towards the future in anticipation that our youngsters will take over but like always our older generation might just stick around for longer than we think. In any case, I'm excited to look into the future so I'm creating this thread in anticipation of it.

Looking at the potential line-ups drafted for these teams I certainly feel we have a bright future especially in our test setup. With the likes of Shafique, Saud and Kamran coming into the setup it certainly would make our batting lineup very formidable. We have Shaheen really working his magic in test and with another equally good pacer our bowling can be formidable too this is where we hope Naseem Shah steps up now. Hasan Ali needs to be backed until we find a good replacement for him.

It would be good to hear from posters on here which of the 3 formats you think Pakistan would have a better run in the near future?

ODIs and T20s excite me when there is a world tournament happening, otherwise I will follow but not get particularly worked up - maybe a little more so if it was v England, Aus, South Africa.

Test matches always excite me so looking forward to the series, even though as i've said elsewhere Bangladesh is just a terrible place to play cricket.

I just feel that our players and brand of cricket is more suited to T20Is.

Until such a time that we have better equipped batsmen for 5 day cricket, we won't challenge the top teams in that format.

Abdullah Shafique has only had three first class innings. Whilst he has scored two hundreds he is way to inexperienced and raw to be drafted in to the test team .

It will destroy his confidence and everything else. Why do we get so far ahead of ourselves with players ?

He needs 18-20 first class games , ideally minimum a season in QEA.

We saw what happened in the T20is when he played , he was like a rabbit in the headlights ( through) no fault of his his own.

He has potential ,but the the test arena ( toughest format) of all is not the form of cricket where we select undercooked and inexperienced batsman .

From the above teams the T20 one is the most exciting one, and the one that should have the most success. No real fear of collapses when you have to bat 20 overs, we bat really deep.

With the way t20 cricket is these days, we might one day start seeing 400 being scored a bit more often in ODIs. It would in a way be interesting to see a team scoring close to 400 in Dubai in ODIs, and see if the team batting 2nd could actually chase it down.

I think Pakistan doesn't have as many "exciting" players or match winners in its Test team that it has in its T20 or probably even in its ODI team.

Do you really think Saj? We hardly score 200 in 20 overs and struggled to defend 175 odd against Australia in the semis.

I genuinely feel the team was fully switched on and motivated in this WC, hence they performed well.

In my view our strongest forte is test cricket. Faheem Ashraf gives us the extra seamer option, Nauman Ali is a solid seasonal left armer. Our batsmen love playing slow. We also some exciting quick bowlers. Our test team is better than our ODI & T20 team.

Test cricket is a dying sport. Sure an exciting test match going deep into the 5th day with all three results possible wipes the floor with even the best ODI/T20s matches. However, such test matches are few and far in between, most matches are one-sided affairs or so boring that you would rather watch paint dry. Newer fans of the sport hardly ever tune into test cricket. I'm a die-hard fan of the sport and I can't recall the last time I actively sat down and watched a session of test cricket, let all more than a 2-5 over spell. Modern lifestyle and test cricket just do not jive.

Then there is the foster child of international cricket, ODIs. It suffers from neither here nor there syndrome. I think ICC needs to take some policy measures to restore ODIs importance as right now it just seems like an extended T20 when it has potential to be so much more than that. I feel ODIs are a great exhibition of all aspects of the skills required in cricket without being a boring drag like test cricket or six fest like T20s.

Our T20 team has been top notch for a while now. Do remember that we were the top ranked T20 side for a LONG time just a little while ago, therefore naturally as a Pakistani fan I'm most interested in T20 format.

T20's is best format for Pakistan and they should have won two more World Cups at least.

50 Overs the mental pressure always gets to the team and sometimes you feel they not giving 100%.

Test Matches they always find ways of losing.

Test and T20I teams.

Pak are an absolutely shambolic ODI team and the fact Imam is a part of the team, just goes to show how far behind the ODI team is of every other nation.

Pak will do well in Tests again, once Azhar and Abid are discarded.

I like all formats to be honest, but I'd say Tests. With the WTC in operation and (relatively) favourable series allocations for Pakistan, the excitement for my favourite format has just increased more.

ODI's are a close second, and T20's are just mindlessly entertaining. Like watching a trash action movie.

The test team is similar low ranked and has lost all bar a few lucky draws in SENA recently home conditions are more favourable we will get some wins but we even lost a test in West Indies long way before we can be called a decent team in tests.

In T20s it’s more our team takes it seriously all the time while the other teams experiment more and their full team is played in WCs only plus the skill level gap shortens due to the format whereas tests and ODIs regularly expose our weaknesses as teams are always full strength.

For me its ODI's and T20s. I love odd test match here and there but they get predictable after 3 days.
I m not into Bilateral series and feels it's a waste of time.
90s kid loves watching Triangular, quadrangler series.

Tests for sure. Really excited about the batting talent we have in Abdullah, Saud, Kamran, Haider and Omair. With Babar and Rizwan they will hopefully form a solid batting unit and given that bowling has always been our stronger suit we could build a formidable team if the select and groom the right talent.

T20s are second (despite my dislike of the format due to its randomness). The squad is pretty much settled and we have decent talent coming in through PSL.

ODIs are where we have really struggled recently and might continue to do so. We have still not adapted to the changes in the format which has pretty much become an extended version of T20. Since our strength has usually been our bowling we have struggled due to the flat pitches and batsman friendly rules. Also I feel ODIs require more strategic and tactical planning and proactive captaincy than the other two formats and that's an area where we continue to lag behind the other teams.

None.

Pakistan is a poor team in all formats with a dark future.

Don’t be fooled by the performance in the group stage - Pakistan would have been on the way home before the knockouts if Babar didn’t get lucky with the toss against India and New Zealand.

Now I understand the outrage about ur posts by the people on this forum. No words

He was playing against a tough opposition if he is to play it must be at home or against a weeker side eg Bangladesh/sri Lanka

That's why I said, once Azhar and Abid are discarded.

Bring in Saud, Ghulam and Salahuddin, then watch the team become several times better.

T20 then the tests. Been a while since we played the 50 overs stuff.

New batsmen coming in doesn’t mean they will average 50 and be world beaters to make it at test level they need development whilst playing and enough cover from other experienced batsmen to iron out mistakes throwing them in the deep end after a few over the hill batsmen finally leave is not a recipe for success.

Batsmen averaging close to 50 and above at test level are few and far between in any country the way to make a good test team is to induct players at the right time who have enough talent to be a success and phase out batsmen aswell once they are past it while keeping a few in their prime as mainstays.

tests always, and t20i sometimes, odis seem totally pointless and dangerous given t20 leagues and player workload issues.

Test, especially due to the WTC, Pak has a chance to play the final as their away fixtures aren't difficult. They are playing the tough teams at home, so it's a great opportunity to play the final.

I'm still gutted by that loss to the windies. Think that will ultimately cost us.
We have a great chance though..

true, that loss was hard to digest, especially after the position we were in. Still, Pak has a good chance to make it to the finals.

I'm losing whatever a bit of appetite I had for T20 , I love test cricket and ODIs

I only care about ODI and Test.

ODI is my #1 favorite format.

I don't really care about T20 format much.

I agree with him. When last time Pak won important match/series??

back in 2017 against india, thanks to fakhar zaman and bumrah for bowling no ball

Salahuddin bats at a snail’s pace, most overrated player out there.

Its good to see majority of posters on here are excited about our Test line-up. Frankly even I'm more excited about the future of our test team.

I'm actually more thrilled about our batting in tests rather than the bowling. Shafique has shown in Bangladesh that he does have all the shots in the book and with correct application and temperament he can go a long way in test arena. Whilst I also believe Imam is the answer to our other opener position for long-term although Abid had a fantastic Bangladesh series. I'm also eagerly looking towards the debut of Kamran Ghulam more than anyone else as I see this guy having similar gritty attitude that YK had. If we end up with 50% of YK then we would have had a good middle order bat. Babar and Rizwan are undoubtedly the future of this batting unit.

In terms of bowling I'm excited to see Shaheen bowl in SENA conditions. Also I'm very happy that Yasir might not be selected anymore for SENA tours and he can be replaced by Nauman who can keep it relatively tight and is a better bat. We do need another fast bowler to complete our line-up and I hope Naseem finds form with ball as he can take up the mantle of 3rd pacer.

Overall, we are getting there where after a long time we would have a test unit that can challenge teams in SENA conditions.

One Day cricket. I just love it.

One Day cricket has its own beauty. Openers trying to get you a start, the bowlers trying to remove the openers to get early advantage. Than after the 15th over the spin attacks starts to come slowly an dby 25th over we see spin attack from both sides. The middle order batsmen than start building the innings. If there has been a collapse you will see someone anchoring. Than as we move forward to the final overs thats when the hitters, sloggers and death bowlers come in.

ODI has everything.

Test Cricket is only enjoyed if its being player in England, and I only watch the session till lunch. After that it becomes boring.

T20 has no planning, anyone can win it
