Thought this would be a wonderful topic to discuss. Both the countries have produced some utter filth in the name of politicians historically.

Would like to hear from posters of both nations about their politicians, and the damage they have done to their respective countries.

Corrupt probably both similar

Competent, think Indian ones are more seasoned so smarter than Pak ones

Congress and other left wing politicians in India will wipe the floor on corruption. Staggering amounts of money looted and nearly bankrupt the country. Thank god for PVN who IMO is a highly underrated PM !

Corruption and competence are probably similar however I'm really impressed with the sincerity of top Indian leadership to the country. Wish Pakistan eliminated dual citizenship for office bearers of any kind whether elected or selected.

the politicians never had any impact on India. It’s the people of the country that have built India.

For example if Nehru built IIT or IIM or whatever it’s still the professors especially the cream of the crop who ran it and the work ethic and culture the students brought in that helped make it a success. It’s not like Pakistan doesn’t have university or they teach a different science and math in those universities.

If liberalization was done; it is still businessmen who accelerated the economy.

Same with space program/ISRO. It’s the scientists who made it happen against all odds. The politicians are only for photo op.

Even if you look at a guy like Jaishankar who is world famous now but he has been in the diplomatic service forever

Look at BCCI vs PCB, even if you go by population and popularity of the game logic PCB should have been no.2 board in the world, we have had our share of politicians and corporates run it and made a killing but they knew that the bigger picture: the bigger it got the more money they make and a bigger pie for all instead of choking the golden goose for short term profits.

Despite a lot of issues we have had some great nation builders and success stories in comparison to Pakistan. In fact it will be a no contest. That’s the difference.

Politicians are politicians. We have a Zardari and Nawaz Sharif in every Indian state so that’s no excuse.

I think the more pertinent question probably is which country's armed forces are more sincere to its country than their institutions self interests.
i think we know the answer to that.

This is a good point and is the single biggest reason why India is still standing tall today despite debilitating corruption and little support from Govt. However I think we are starting to see the possibilities of what can be achieved if a very robust public/private partnership. Long way to go but finally I think we are now on the right track.

India has a higher emphasis on education than Pakistan does, even though both have stooges for politicians (which country doesn’t?)

Disclaimer: I don’t care about sport professionals not speaking English. There’s French sportsmen who don’t do interviews in English. Not a big deal. Not a measure of anything regarding the country

But I’ve seen BBC documentaries and other random documentaries of interviews of people of both countries.

Yet it’s every random on the street in India being able to converse in English. But same can’t be said about Pakistan.

Is English a measure of intelligence? No. But it’s a big part of the syllabus taught in Pakistan and India. If someone is not able to hold a basic convo in it, it means they didn’t get very far in school there. Someone who has lived in either country their whole life, do correct me if I’m wrong. I spent my early childhood there and visited for months at a time thereafter, so perhaps my view is lacking a few things.

So imo it all has to do with what’s being taught to the next gen, what’s being done at the grassroots level. Aka, same issue with cricket in Pakistan and the answer to why India is far more consistent as a top side compared to Pakistan since 2003.
