According to sources in Pakistani intelligence and militant circles, the men were senior members of the Pakistani Taliban - a group that has killed hundreds of Pakistanis in suicide bombings and other attacks.

One of the dead men was Sheikh Khalid Haqqani, who held a key position in the Pakistani Taliban's leadership council, and formerly served as the group's deputy leader.

He had been accused of involvement in several high-profile attacks on Pakistani politicians and linked to one of the country's deadliest militant attacks, the 2014 assault on a school in Peshawar , which left more than 150 people - mainly children - dead.

The second man was Qari Saif Younis, a military commander within the group. In a statement on Thursday, the Pakistani Taliban confirmed the men's identities and their deaths but gave few other details.

According to one militant source, the men had been due to hold a secret "meeting" in Kabul, on the direct orders of the group's leadership, apparently travelling from the eastern Afghan province of Paktika.

Their bodies were found near the Intercontinental Hotel in Kabul
The militant would not say who they were meeting. According to a source in Pakistani intelligence, the men's bodies were discovered in the vicinity of the high-end Intercontinental Hotel - the site of two deadly attacks in recent years.

Blast kills another TTP leader in Afghanistan

A senior Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) commander was killed by a bomb in eastern Afghanistan, militant and intelligence sources told AFP on Thursday, the latest such incident to target the group in recent days.

Sheharyar Mehsud, chief of a militant faction which is part of the umbrella TTP, was the target of the remote controlled blast in Kunar province, a TTP commander in Pakistan told AFP.

A Pakistani intelligence official who confirmed the incident said Mehsud had fled to Afghanistan in 2016.

The blast comes nearly two weeks after two other key TTP leaders — Khalid Haqqani and Qari Saifullah Peshawari — were killed in a clash with security forces.

It was not immediately clear who was behind the killings, which have come as the US and the Afghan Taliban — which is separate from the TTP — appear close to a breakthrough on a deal for an American troop withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Islamabad has helped to facilitate the gruelling talks, which have stretched over more than a year.

Pakistan should have done this before but better late than never. Take them down like the dogs they are. I am sorry to use such words for a fellow human but can you call someone who kills kids and innocent humans as a "human"?

US and the Afghan puppet regime have realised their plan to terrorise and break Pakistan has failed, even though it has cost Pakistan so much in terms of lives and damage.

Now Pak is free to target and wipe out all these terrorists. TTP will be wiped out very soon.

Why would US want to break Pakistan?

Or for starters how about Pakistan getting involved in the Russian invasion or “helping” USA in the war on terror (“helping is in quotes because usually my definition of help is something done without any expectations in return) and then also harboring OBl.

These are all failures of Pakistan’s international policy.

Personally I am fine whenever extremist trash like this are sent to their maker, however this has nothing do with failure of America.

If the spin you are giving is that Pak is the hero here eliminating such trash then good for you, things might be finally looking up on policy when it comes to religious extremism to some extent.

There was no Russian invasion, it was the Soviet Union, educate yourself on facts and the difference between the two regimes.

This is a great success of a great army which defended its homeland against state actors terrorists. India, US were using the Afghan invasion to sent terrorists across the border but have failed miserably.

You are so ignorant on this subject its not worth my time but I will inform you for free, CIA bases were set up along the Afghan/Pak border, used a supporting facilities to help their terrorists to attack Pakistan.

Its best you move on to another subject, this seems too difficult for you.

True. I mean I cannot argue about things that have happened in a parallel universe where the world has conspired against Pakistan and there were no political mistakes made. I will take the high road.

Hope you are not a student of history or international affairs though especially studying the subject outside Pakistan or some “universities” in Britain.

Stop digging. Do you now accept it was the Soviet Union who invaded Afghanistan not Russia? Look up the ideologies , both different. Like I said, move on kid, this is too deep for you.

I think its part of the deal negotiated by ISI about US leaving Afghanistan . Heard Afghan and U.S intelligence were involved too . They are taking care of all anti Pakistan elements there Mossad style!
