Pakistan's All Time XI [Test and ODI formats combined]

I never knew Saeed Anwar had a middle or first name as Javed or Hanif.

Babar is just an exaggeration just like Indians picking Bumrah in their XI.

Statistically, yes. Impact wise I am not sure, except maybe 2-3 home knocks at test level and few at ODI level.

In terms of stroke making ability in LOIs Kamran, Moin and Rashid were arguably better especially when it came to end overs.

apparently yes. Moin Khan and Rashid avg 20 in both formats while sarfaraz avgs 30 in both. Bari cant bat at all.
Glovework- vise all 4 of them are statistically near equals

Ofc for opening you can switch Javed with Babar as Babar does open in T20's. but just seeing our Middle order is heavily backed unlike our opening, i guess for the sake of it we'll have Javed have a go at opening our innings.

Then why is Hanif there and not Saeed Anwar? And who is the second opener, Miandad?

I would open with Afridi, Hafeez, or Babar Tbvh.

You must understand stats arent the end all for selecting a player. Hanif CARRIED the team in its infancy, led it and brought pakistan's batting in to contest with the others. His 499 runs are a testament of his batting prowess and he in his prime is an elite opener

Definitely and I understand his selection, I just meant that you were explicitly picking an ODI and Test combined XI and since he’s never played we can’t know what his strike rate etc would look like. I suppose he’s still Pakistan’s best opener of all time after Saeed Anwar. Why did you drop Anwar?

Its the same as making an all time Australian xi and leaving out bradman saying he hasnt played odis before. Hence how Hanif comes through as being one of our greatest openers and smashing cricketing records too yk.

As for Anwar being put in sub is purely due to our greater pool of talent in the middle order. a batting elite like Yousuf had to be left out already and then leaving Inzamam out for Saeed would be an absolute loss on top of that. Hence why i made sure javed, inzi and zaheer all are in this lineup with a change in Javed's role, which im sure he has the ability to perform being our best bat. Babar can play opens too instead of Javed but i feel Babar's position after 1 down comes quite natural there

I see! Well said. I see your logic now.

Personally, I rate Saeed extremely highly so I would bring Saeed in, drop Babar, and shift Miandad to 3. Keep the rest the same.

Btw, excellent bowling attack! Saqlain definitely deserves to be there over anyone else.

Well thats a shocker to me. I guess this is a area we can improve on over the next few years. I firmly believe Rizwan has potential in being a good Test wicketkeeper.

I'd take Saeed Anwar over Hanif, especially considering this is ODI + Test combined.

Really tough to leave Yousuf out too of playing 11, him vs Zaheer is really close.

Latif over Sarfraz - Latif is one of the best pure wicket-keepers ever, although horrible with the bat.

And Misbah even as a sub in laughable. What about Younis, Saleem Malik, Razzaq even Hafeez/Malik have more all-around accomplishments as individual contributors than Misbah

He is iconic, but his results do not match up. Saqlain >>> as an ODI bowler, and >>> as a test bowler
Despite finishing up quickly, he still took more test wickets which is enough for me
