The title speaks for itself. Pakistan's pool of talent looks great right now and some of the players will be very unfortunate to miss the world cup.

I mean just look at the pool:

Fakhar Zaman
Azhar Ali
Ahmed Shahzad
Imam ul Haq
Sahibzada Farhan
Umar Amin
Babar Azam
Haris Sohail
Muhammad Hafeez
Shoaib Malik
Hussain Talat
Sarfraz Ahmed
Asif Ali
Fahim Ashraf
Aamir Yamin
Muhammad Nawaz
Shadab Khan
Imad Wasim
Hasan Ali
Muhammad Amir
Usman Khan Shinwari
Junaid Khan
Rumman Raees
Wahab Riaz
Shaheen Afridi

10 out of these 25 players will miss the cut. I have listed all the players who have recently represented Pakistan in the LOI formats. Now, I know some of these will be definitely out by the time the World Cup will be around, but I have added them because they are still in the selectors plans.

Still lack an explosive opener and a #6... Talat is a proper batsman who can hit big but not from ball one. Shouldn’t bat at 6.

Bowling wise we are covered.

Maybe we can give him a trial run at 3 in some of our upcoming series this year. He was effective against a limited WI side, but we don't know enough about how he would fare against better sides. It could be a good idea to give him a go vs Afghanistan and SL in the Asia cup-it is a pressure situation, but not enough so that the rest of the team can't bail them out. Of course I hope Sarfraz promoting himself to four in the first T20I is a sign of things to come.

Talat is the perfect number 4/5 batsman in ODI.

There's something wrong with the talent pool when Azhar, Shezzy, Imam and Hafeez are getting on the list.

The idea of the thread was good but left a bad taste in the mouth by putting garbage like Azhar and Shehzad on your list.

Hopefully these 10 miss out:

Azhar
Shehzad
Malik
Hafeez
Imam
Farhan
Yamin
Asif
Wahab
Amin

the issue is that we dont have many ODIs till the WC, so these players wont get enough experience

A lot of variables

One of the bad out comes of the CT trumiph was that it extended the careers of some people who have no bussiness in the team namely Azhar and Professor, to some extent Malik, we can only afford to have one them if at all.

We seem to be on track to rectify these mistakes but it could have come a lot earlier.

Also i know there is no point complaing about this now but a guy like Haris Sohail has only played 24 odis while a guy like Asad has played 60. I know Haris was injured a lot but he should debuted at the very least a year before his actual debut. I remember he was in a lot of squads for more than year yet didnt even play in dead rubbers.

So many games have been wasted on players who never had it

we do get 5 odis vs Eng in Eng before the WC and that will be gold dust.

There's a lot of potential but still a work in progress, hopefully the development of the squad is smooth over next 12 months and newbies go from strength to strength

Haha I only mentioned all the players who represented Pakistan in LOIs in 2018, implying that they are in the selector's plans.

I'll add the talented batsman Saud Shakeel not related to Shakeel Shiekh, had he been with his performances and skill he'd been playing for Pak right now. He doesn't have any lobby backing him and wasn't given a single game in PSL.

Thank sarfraz ahmed for that.

Don't know why people are interested in suad shakeel, his height is 5 ft he will be blown away by short deliveries in int. cricket. Don't run after him for odi's, he can be good only in test cricket. Odi is format for strong built men.

Babaar
Fakhar
Harris
Sarfaraz
Malik
Talat
Fahim
shadab
One spin all rounder / fast bowler ( Depending on pitch )
Aamir
Hassan

get rid of Azhar Ali, Mohammed Hafeez and Shoaib Mallik as soon as possible. Rest all are brilliant and include Zafar Gowhar in the list.

As much as you'd like to think that way .......This pakistan team is miles away from being a settled side especially in 50 overs cricket.......We need another solid explosive opener at the top.....(may be should try sahibzada or even Asif Ali as an opener)....we have to replace shoiab Malik with someone who can switch gears easily. . (may be Hussain Talat should be tried at 5 with Sarfraz at 4)..may be one of Nawaz /Yamin/faheem should be at 7 ( imad Wasim???? -. No freakin way).
Then that elusive 6 spot ...may be wait for next year PSL to find someone..... And finally we need a stable third pacer .... Junaid was impressive in the CT but far from the pace you need to bowl.....Rumman is just ** ..(refer Nz series)..... The less I talk about Wahab in green jersey....the better... . That leaves us with shahenn, Rahat, Sohail ,and the 7 Footer Irfan....
Jeez we have to wait for the next PSL.....
All in all... we should be very satisfied If We give a fight for the semis spot..let alone be in the semis
And it would need a Jupiter sized miracle to lift that bloody cup

I thought that we have found a proper number 6 batsman and a finisher in Talat but after watching last two games, it looks like he is more of a top order batsman. We have to find a better finisher than Malik and I still feel that Hammad at 6 is the answer.

If I had it my way, with potential players continuing to develop, the team I'd go for would be

1. Zaman
2. Salman (yet to play for Pak)
3. Babar
4. Talat
5. Sarfraz
6. Malik
7. Faheem
8. Shadab
9. Amir
10. Hasan
11. Raees/Junaid/someone else

Nawaz could get a pick, and in my opinion should if Malik is not going to bowl, but in the last couple t20s Malik has been given a bigger role as an all rounder and I am all for that.
