Part-time bowlers for Pakistan in Tests

Looking at our part time bowlers I can’t help but feel a real pang of shame and disappointment. Just think about this for a second.

Australia the best team in the world had guys like Simon katich, Mark Waugh, Marcus north, darren Lehman Ricky ponting, hussey as occasional part time bowlers on the rare occasion that their bowling line up failed and at least some of them contributed with some handy wickets.

South Africa were stronger because of kallis bowling but I know he’s a genuine all rounder same goes for duminy. I think even graham smith could roll his arm over.

The best batsman in the world SRT could bowl pretty handy spin and for a while could genuinely be thought of as an all rounder..

So here we have Fawad alam. Been out of the team for ten years and now a situation has arisen when he could chip in with a bit of left arm spin and it’s none existent. Hardly spins. Makes you wonder wth has he been doing in clitheroe. All those years he’s been waiting for a comeback and I’m sure he would have made a quicker return if he could contribute a bit with the ball. Same for asad shafique and azhar. Not for the first time they are watching their bowlers grind into the dust yet in this time when their batting is slipping they have next to nothing to contribute with the ball. Yes asad just took a wicket but that’s not the point.

I think Pakistan should bowl more part-time bowlers when main bowlers aren't doing well. Azhar doesn't use part-time bowlers much.

Yes we all remember 2010 horror show but time and time again I saw Simon katich with his little China man deliveries chip in or even Ricky ponting do a bit here and there or Tendulkar. Amir sohail and saleem Malik were pretty handy but we seem to have lost the art of having decent part time options in tests. It’s a really under utilised part of our game.

Just makes me wonder why Fawad never learnt to spin the ball in ten years.

But top teams are able to contribute everywhere. Even great players like Tendulkar bowler here and there. I know Miandad was originally a bowler but in his series in 1992 he bowled a little bit.

Part timers can be partnership breakers. Back in the day many batsmen could roll their arm over. Now even India has this problem. Kohl, Sharma, Dhawan etc none of them bowls or even good at it

Exactly. Top sides need to cover all these facets. Look at Root And Pietersen not by any means great bowlers but in the team with broad and Anderson etc still on occasion the need arises where they bowl and create some mischief.

In comparison you have Fawad sitting in the ribble valley and in all these years didn’t learn to spin the ball. How on earth can he think he’s better than Harris or zafar or even imad (at least imad can swing it)

And Fawad gets his wicket. So just goes to prove that decent part times can fill the role of a fifth bowler when a 4 man attack is ground down.

Sachin when he put it all in it was a spinner not many could properly read because of the tricks he possessed. Inzamam has admitted it on his YouTube channel where he said mastered playing spin and no spin er in the world could ever deceive him but Sachin was one exception and that he could never read his googlies.

Yes I remember in those Chappell years and before There was talk of him being utilised as a proper all rounder. Was very slippery.

Prodigious bowling talent with no control

Not sure why Azhar himself does not have a bowl. I believe he started his career out as a leg spinner before he became a batsman.

Azhar wasn’t bad a few years ago. Then he stopped bowling completely. One can’t say he was busy working on his batting coz his batting has regressed if anything. (Makes you wonder what he’s in the team for)
