My Shaadi and Valima have finally been finalized and will take place in the next couple of months. Considering my wife and her family are proud pathans, i want to make the occasion as special as possible by tailoring my wedding dress and the dinner menu to their traditions and customs.

Would love fellow pasthun pakpassers to give their suggestions on the perfect wedding attire i can wear for the occasions which is consistent with a pashtun wedding.

I decided against wearing a suit or a sherwani for the shaadi. I believe most pashtuns wear a regular shalwar kameez, a waist coat, peshwari chapal and a touk as part of their customs.

As for the dishes i am also open to suggestions i.e. they are going to be full fledged high protein dishes like chicken karhai, chicken seekh kebabs, chapli kebabs, fish e.t.c.

Congratulations.. I wish I cd help but I’m a Kashmiri and my wife is Punjabi ..

Congratulations. Where will it take place Karachi or abroad? Well before making any plan keep in mind that there is a third wave of Covid and restrictions are being imposed especially for weddings.

Do your own thing, be you, don't be trapped by dogma and tradition.

Yep. Just wear a T-shirt and shorts. It's time for us to put our foot down and show the aunties who's boss.

Karachi. Dad wants to do it in a hotel i.e. Avari, Marriot or Sheraton but i feel that is to risky, i would rather just do it in our private residence as it is we are not planning to invite more than 30 people and want to keep it strictly for close immediate family and a few friends. However the problem with this idea is that it might involve more work in terms of sprucing up the place, making arrangements whereas in a hotel it is a lot easier. The other problem with a hotel is that the menu you will end up choosing will be strictly confined to their dishes, you cant cater anything from outside whereas if you do it at home, the catering options are unlimited.

I have decided not to invite any of my friends, i have informed them and apologized to them in advance but i feel comfortable and happy doing it small.

My wife is also Pathan and ours wedding was a beautiful representation of Punjabi( from my side ) and Pashtun cultures. You should also wear wedding dress as per your own culture and let her family represent their Pathan culture. Yes, if you're Pathan too , only then you should wear Pashtun dress.

I agree. If you’re Punjabi then go as a Punjabi. Everything else like the cuisine can still be Pathan themed. Why go as something you’re not?
