The 5 shortlisted regions are as follows:

Hyderabad

Dera Murad Jamali

FATA

Faisalabad

Multan

Who do you think should be the 6th PSL franchise?
 
That list is just :facepalm:


Multan is the only one that seems a good choice since it represents the Seraiki people of South Punjab.


Hyderabad is just in Karachi's backyard. It is essentially the same city. Same with Faisalabad and Lahore (although not as close in proximity)


Dera Murad Jamali is very, very sparsely populated and I don't understand why is it being considered. If they wanted another team from Baluchistan they could have a team for the Makran region.
 
Multan for the saraikis. Faisalabad would divide the punjabi fan base, not good for Lahore.
 
should be Multan Tigers.



I hope they don't sign Inzi or Maqsood, instead give more chances to emerging players they usually perform really well
 
Faisalabad is pretty similar to Lahore and would indeed divide the fan base. Also it's only an one hour drive to LHR- FSD or FSD- LHR. So I would give it to Multan as they represent Southern Punjab.


And yes this is coming from an unbiased Faisalabadi for the sake of Pakistan.
 
Kashmir!! That would have been my choice. From the provided options, I would have to say Multan for the same reasons others have already mentioned.
 
So, I guess the names are finalized, hence there is no "others" option. Personally, I would have loved to see a venue at Gwadar, which brings the distribution more balanced - 3 in West, 3 in East or 3 in north & 3 in south. It's a growing city & probably among the safest in PAK - an International quality stadium can bring Int. cricket back in PAK here.

Otherwise, Faisalabad is fine - 3rd largest populous City & probably 4th largest commercial hub. In long run, it has an International Airport as well, which 'll help inter city travelling, eventually when PSL returns to PAK.
 
Where's Mohenjo Daro???

The 'Mounting Mohenjo Daro Megagiants' deserve a place in next year's PSL.
 
Shame on PCB especially it's Patron in Chief and real chairman.

Just because of PTI Sialkot & Rawalpindi are not in this List.

Shameful.

How can Rawal Pindi be in the list? That's unrealistic. Rwp and Isb are basically the same thing man

Fine, let's go for Sialkot. Wait, no Sialkot either?

Alright, Rawalpindi might be a good option. What? No Pindi?

Pathetic.

Fine, Faisalabad... but then as mentioned above, that would indeed divide fans.

All in all very poor options.

Guess they should just go for Multan, then.

Twin Cities Yes but seperate Cricketing Identity since 1947. Rawalpindi and Sialkot are the regions which have produced alot of Cricketers plus these two sides have been really competitive in domestic Cricket aswell. On the other hand Cricket in Faisalabad & Multan is dying. First right goes to Sialkot the multiple domestic Champions if not than Rawalpindi.


Anyhow what can a random fan like me do except ventilating my anger this way :-(

O Yes definitely. 80 % of Urban areas of Rawalpindi & Sialkot have massive support for PTI. In 2013 elections I was in Pindi and had been at a local gym. On Election day whoever I met in Gym said He voted for PTI and before elections there were massive rallies and meetings of PTI in PINDI. Yet those injections into PTI Urban sure shot seats by people who didn't want Khan as a very very strong opposition in Punjab and Centre and than be in power in 2019 created all that mess.


PML N edges PTI only in Rural Punjab where they have genuine massive support. In Urban constituencies of Punjab mainly big cities PTI edges PML N by a fair margin.


Anyhow let's not start a political debate in this thread :)

Hmm.

If that is indeed why Sethi did not shortlist Pindi/Sialkot as options, he deserves a massive slap on his face.

I have played in both Isb and Rwp Under 19 regional teams and mostly its the same players being shuffled around.
 
Didn't they say, that all the regions were open and highest bid will get selected?

They should have kept it that way because then an investor may want to buy a region like Kashmir or Sialkot more than all the others listed above and was willing to pay top dollar, meaning the pcb would be losing out on money.

Don't know why they didn't follow that model and allow the investors to select for themselves.
 
Multan is the obvious option from this list to represent South Punjab. Faisalabad beats the point, it's right beside Lahore.

Good to know that. Between Kal Umar Amin ne kamaal marketing ki hai Mohammad Waseem ki academy ki. He will be on the moon surely :)

My Uncle played FC for a Bank and had scored a double hundred aswell in 80's. Once He came from UK and took me with him during my early school days to Diamond. There I met Bazid Khan & Bilal Asad. At that time both were in selectors Radar and doing quite good. In those days Bazid was very famous for his Huge sixes.

Diamond is favourite and most productive wicket for Hasan Ali. Had there been no DCC in Pak than Hasan might not have yet played for Pak.


Hope Islamabad stadium materialises someday. Is work going on ?

Nice. Waseem has a good grasp on cricket and was quite talented himself. Unfortunate he wasn't backed. Expecting quality players from his academy, inshaAllah.

He had off field issues hence when he got dropped his performance wasn't upto mark. It was only in his last 2-3 seasons of FC career that he had matured finally and by that time it was too late.

Once he was with A Sohail. A Sohail ko mukhbri hogaee he ran and Wasim was caught. They say from than onwards he was black listed in PCB though it was a private matter.


Yes I like his Cricketing analysis. Provides good insight into the game but he does back a Lahore batsman and a pindi allrounder because of his close yaari with them but overall he has got a good eye aswell.

Honestly, if you ask me, I do not wish for Islamabad stadium to materialize. There are a few reasons and I will highlight them all in this post.

1) As you may already know, Islamabad is a hilly city surrounded by the beautiful Margalla hills and forests. Most of these forests have already been cut down and thus, the beauty of the city is being ruined. The stadium was to be made in the Shakar Parian forest and that would cause massive deforestation and as most of the forest has already been chopped down, it would be detrimental to the city's environment and beauty.

2) There is literally no need for a stadium to be made in Islamabad. The place designated for the stadium is literally 10 km away from Rawalpindi cricket stadium and having 2 stadiums in such close proximity would be useless.

3) Why not spend such a huge some elsewhere like investing in cricket in Balochistan or Interior Sindh? What is the point of making a stadium when we already have so many?

4) International Cricket has not been played in Pakistan for almost a decade now. There is little point in making stadiums, ANYWHERE! It would just be a waste of money. Who do we make them for? Domestic games even with our International stars have embarrassing number of fans present and these stadiums would just rot like the old ones already are.

5) Islamabad has little cricketing history. I don't know for sure, but I think Imad Wasim is the only cricketer that's been a regular player for Pakistan from Isb. Pakistan doesn't need stadiums as of now, but if we must, why not make them somewhere else. Some place that has a richer cricketing history.

6) As most Pakistani's already know, Islamabad is the city of mostly elites and upper middle class or as we call it, "burgers". Islamabad does not have a cricket crazy population and I'm sure there will be lots of days when the stadium would be empty even if we get games. Most young people in Islamabad are more interested in Football, Polo and even Tennis now. Cricket, among most elites is seen to the sport every gali muhallay ka larka plays and surely, that is what the they do not want to indulge in.

Therefore, making a stadium in Isb is pointless.
 
I'll stick to my initial choice of Faisalabad.

A passionate fanbase that loves its cricket. They deserve a team.
 
They could have had rawal pindi, sialkot....


Anyways i voted for hyderabad.

But if faisalabad is added, i hope misbah is traded and asked to captain the team

I read this comment in morning and I was like...why the Gawadar?

Then I gave it little more thought throughout the day and I think Gawadar might make a very good choice even for more reasons than what [MENTION=79064]MMHS[/MENTION] mentioned.

Due to increase impact of CPAC in Pak and gwadar port being a great strategic place for chinese government and business interests, it would be a great PR for chinese businesses to get more exposure to Pakistani people by owning a gawadar team, which might do wonders for that chinese brand 20 years down the road.

The price that PCB charges for a franchise (the highest was 25 Million for ten years for KK), even if PCB charges twice as much as that then it would come down to 5M a year which for a chinese brand would be even less than pennies thinking on what kind of ROI they will get out f project in terms of exposure to Pakistani market by sponsoring the biggest sport in the country.

If I were a managing director of a chinese business in Pak (Like Javed Afridi) then I should have been planning this since completion of first PSL in early 2015. This would have been GREATEST professional move that would set up my next couple of generations in terms of financial rewards that I would get out of.

Plus - PCB and current PM (Nawaz) can also feel good about the fact that foreign businesses are considering direct investments in Pak cricket teams which makes them look good too.
 
We can select our choice all we want but the fact of the matter is that it depends on the winning bid and wherever the owner is from.

I feel that Faisalabad will get the winning bid as alot of money in the city. Alot of rich businessmen in Manchester which is called the Faisalabad of UK. So good odds that a winning bid will come from a Faisalabadi tycoon :)

If I had the money, I will buy Hyderabad as my dad originates from there and I will name the team "Hyderabad Nawaabs"

I actually explained that in initial post on possible venues in another thread - why Gwadar? Chinese are spending crazy on sports - from football to snooker. And, they are trying to build their own corridor to Arab Sea through Gwadar port. What they need is a good brand to associate with the local people for smooth operation (as they inevitably will build a major Naval base there - already has one in SRL, trying to negotiate with BD & Maldwips; reason probably need not to be explained). Besides, I was looking for some figures in CPEC - good amount of that large investment (& the natural resources of B'stan) will be cascaded to the remote corner of PAK through Gwadar port.

What I see is, every thing as per plan - in 10/15 years time Gwadar can become a major port/city, industry/defense base & oil refinery - China spends the highest in world now on crude oil from middle east & their 2 State owned Oil companies (China Petroleum & Sinopac) are the largest corporate in world now (probably after Walmart, but in different industry). They can reduce their cost significantly by refining crude oil from Iran, Qatar & SArab at Gwadar & transport that refined oil to their Western states by pipe line - that's at least 15-20% efficiency on what will be world's highest oil consumption - I am sure, this is the long term plan, as Chinese military will exceed US Military in oil consumption, within a decade & that sort of demand can't be managed by carrying oil 6 times more distance - from gulf to Shanghai via Malaya peninsula.

Al these suggests, it's possible to bring Chinese money in cricket through PSL at Gwadar - may be even a stadium built by Chinese funding in near future. I am really, really surprised that PCB (& PAK Govt.) has listed Dera Gazi Khan as one of the possible venues from B'stan, which is categorically another hypocrisy - they filled the quota of B'stan, for the sake of it.

Think this city thing is a little OTT

The main idea is that players are given a chance to play. As if KK has all Karachi born players!
 
They have chosen previous Psl franchises based on ethnicity/language even if it did not have lot of fan base
or even cricket there like Quetta. So why sethi gives up that model now and does not put up a team from
only region missing from that franchise , Kashmir.
There are millions of Kashmiris in and outside who would like a kashmir team and passionately support it. Kashmiris from kashmir and settled outside generally are well off and better educated than other regions.
If compared to Quetta or even Islamabad Kasmir team can bring more fans and money but i fear it is not
that simple.

I guarantee you it is not cricketing reason knowing Sethi from my home town lahore , it is his attitude about
india. You will never get slightest of criticism on india from this man. Someone should run a social media
compaign on this issue and inform Noonies and immys party what Sethi is upto. There are plenty of Kashmiris in Both parties and also media who will be sympathetic to this campaign. This is pure personal
agenda by sethi and it should be stopped!

Its for $$$ and not politics yaar, Faisalabad and Multan will come up the highest bid and one of them will take it, I want to see a regional support base and see Multan from the list (South Punjab/ Sirayki population) but have a feeling that Faisalabad has a stronger business $$$ base and might come out on top
