PCB Chairman : "On the basis of cricket and statistics Misbah is a better captain than Imran Khan"

Why does he have to pass a statement every single day?

Comparing Misbah to an ATG? Khuda ko mano yaar

Still until 1995 (starting from 1976) not a single team was able to draw a Test series in West Indies while Pakistan under Imran did it in 1987/88.

You mean that Malcolm Marshall, Curtly Ambrose and Walsh weren't good enough to be called ATG's ?

There was also No Malcom Marshall in the test Pakistan won, Walsh and Ambrose new and Bishop not in team yet.

But Imran defn was a better captain than Misbah no doubt in that,he left a team which could undergo transition and developed players.

So what? even with Malcolm Marshall Pakistan went toe to toe with Windies in the 2nd and 3rd tests.

Yes but the 3rd they won, that's the point, its about taking it. He took 15 wickets in 2 tests at 18.93,now imagine that with him being there not to forget inexperienced Windies bowling line, great series nevertheless and defn at that time it was top performance.

Ian Chappell, rightfully blasted Misbah for his poor showing in Australia. The same Chappell rates Imran as one of the best he ever saw. And to be fair thats the case for most ex cricketers and experts of stature.

Under Misbah

We played 7 test matches against West Indies -Lost 3 of them

We have played two test matches against Zimbabwe and lost one match, it would have been a whitewash by Zimbabwe if there wasn't double hundred of Younis Khan.

3-0 against South Africa
3-0 against Australia
2-0 New Zealand( we lost series against NZ after 30 odd years)

The two test matches against England are a fluke, otherwise his away record is truly awful

He should be thankful to younus for saving his face from a white wash vs zimbo

I'm pretty sure Misbah also has the most losses from a Pakistani captain (?). Does that make him our worst ever captain? :ashwin

2 were not good enough to be ATG league by any stretch at that time . For 3rd, you can see if he played full series.

On topic: Meaningless discussion. IK was a better captain than Misbah. I saw later end of IK, but saw entire career of Misbah. Misbah is not some great test captain so not sure why this comparison.

IK is ahead of Misbah, however that does not make Misbah bad in any regards he has served Pakistan with distinction and should be appreciated for all the work he did in a torrid time..

It is just a political statement to apease the person who made him Chairman PCB. A good bye gesture by Chairman sahib.

Misbah though has been a great servant of Pakistan.

I think Pak cricketing fraternity needs social media classes - do's and dont's. Anyone says anything they want

Misbah better captain than Imran: Shahryar

Islamabad - Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shahryar Khan has said that Misbah-ul-Haq is better captain than Imran Khan.

Misbah will play his last international match against the West Indies on May 10 and he is all set to retire on high note. He was the captain, who took the captaincy of national team at a time when it was facing toughest time after match-fixing scandal and succeeded in making the Test team number one.

Appearing before the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Inter-Provincial Coordination on Thursday, Shaharyar paid skipper Misbah the compliment to beat all the compliments saying the retiring captain has done his duty with great responsibility and made himself better captain than Imran Khan.

He said he was making the comparison on the basis of cricket and statistics, not politics. “I said this on the basis of cricket. I have no political affiliation. I respect him as a player. I am not in politics. This is on the basis of statistics,” he said.
Imran Khan led country to 14 Test victories in the 48 matches that he captained the national side from 1982 to 1992. His team lost a total of 8 matches and drew 26 games during his career as captain. Misbah, who took over the captaincy of the side in 2010, led the side in a total of 55 Test matches, winning 25, losing 18, and drawing 11 matches.

When MQM’s Majid Ali declared Javed Miandad ‘the cricket academy’, Shahryar responded that Miandad was given a chance during India tour but he failed as coach. He declared Miandad a ‘flop coach’ but seemed satisfied with the performance of Mickey Arthur, the current head coach of Pakistan team. He said PCB has decided to try new coaches and players.

Informing the committee on the status of cricket between India and Pakistan, Shahryar said a notice amounting to $60.4 million had been sent to the BCCI. The PCB initiated formal dispute resolution proceedings against the BCCI to claim compensation and damages it suffered due to BCCI’s refusal to play bilateral series with the PCB.

Shahryar said Mudassar Nazar was given the task of hunting fresh talent and he was working very hard. “Mudassar has even involved youth of Fata, AJK and Balochistan and imparting training to them. “We have provided maximum opportunities to fresh blood at higher level. Hassan Ali, Shahdab Khan, Babar Azam, M Asghar and others are among those, who have already started creating waves and time is not far, when youth will replace the experience.”

“We have proved the world that Pakistan is completely safe for all kinds of sporting activities by conducting the PSL final in Lahore, which was highly admired by all the concerned persons,” he added.

The PCB chief said that promotion of upcoming cricketers was very important and the PCB had started U-13 cricket, which was never played in Pakistan before. “Our women team is 10-year-old, but it has won Asia Cup, while they directly qualified for World Cup as well. With the provision of more facilities, we can improve women cricket a lot,” he added.

Later, the standing committee chairman Abdul Qahar Wadan and others showed satisfaction on the PCB’s overall performance and lauded Shaharyar for holding successful PSL final in Pakistan.

The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Sports has advised Pakistan’s top sports authorities and federations to collectively launch a campaign to stop India from being given hosting rights for international events.

The powerful committee observed that in recent months, India had been trying to isolate Pakistani sportspersons by depriving them a chance to compete in international events.

Pakistan’s Wrestling Federation and Squash Federation had recently claimed that their national teams were denied visa by the Indian High Commission for continental events.

A top lawmaker of the government, Mushadullah Khan, who heads the committee, noted at a hearing today in Islamabad that by refusing visas to Pakistani sports teams for international events in India, the Indian authorities have exposed themselves.

“We need to collectively launch a campaign to make the world aware that international sporting events should not be given to India because they are mixing sports with politics,” Mushadullah said.

He was addressing the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board Shaharyar Khan, who appeared before the committee for a hearing on cricket affairs.

Khan informed the committee members that the PCB had finally decided to stop accepting the Indian Cricket Board’s tactics to damage Pakistan cricket.

“We have sent the BCCI a Notice of Dispute under the Dispute Resolution Committee Terms of Reference of the ICC as they have repeatedly breached the agreement executed between PCB and BCCI in respect of the Future Tour Programme for the period 2015-2023,” Khan said.

He said that the PCB had in its notice made it clear that it had suffered losses of around USD 60 million for every series that India had refused to play with it under the FTP and MOU signed between the two boards in 20-14.

“We have demanded compensation for our losses and we have asked them to respond in a week’s time. If they don’t accept our demand we will file a case before the ICC dispute resolution committee for hearing. Which will be the start of our legal process against them.”

“Under ICC laws, both the Boards have to accept the decision of the committee after our lawyers make their cases before them,” Khan said.

Khan informed the committee that between 2015 and 2017, Pakistan twice tried to hold series at neutral venues but the Indians refused to play the bilateral series.

He said Pakistan had gone to India in 2012/13 for a short limited over series as a goodwill gesture.

“We did not get a penny from the series and the Indian Board earned from it. Yet after that they series they made no attempt to reciprocate our goodwill gesture.”

The PCB chief also informed the committee that in the notice sent to the BCCI, Pakistan had made it clear that between 2008 and 2017 it had twice sold its broadcasting rights.

“And in both contracts, we lost revenues because in each contract around USD 40 million were to be paid to us for any bilateral series with India by the Broadcasters,” said Khan.

Shaharyar clarifies remarks about Imran, Miandad

Lahore May 5, 2017: PCB Chairman Mr Shaharyar M Khan has stated that remarks made before the National Assembly Committee Sports meeting was grossly exaggerated in a section of media . He clarified that Misbah ul Haq had statistically been the most successful captain in Pakistan whereas Imran Khan is the most inspirational Captain and greatest icon in Pakistan Cricket.'

On Javed Miandad
In answer to a question by a committee member the Chairman had acknowledged that Miandad was one of Pakistan greatest cricketers. However he stated that great cricketers do not necessarily become the best coaches. He considers Miandad an outstanding cricketer.
