It is for the first time that PCB will sell the rights for PSL and international home matches as a bundle deal.

Pakistan cricket authorities are hopeful of raking in revenue ranging between Pakistani rupees 8 to 10 billion from the sale of media rights of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and its international matches at home.

The PCB will invite tenders for media rights of the PSL and the next four-year cycle of its international home matches.

A third channel, in collaboration with a foreign investor, is also said to be interested in entering the race for obtaining media rights.

Thats like $34-35 million for a period of 4 years for your international team rights and PSL for the next 3-4 years. Even Cricket Australia, ECB are making more than the PCB for their bundle deals and these countries don't have the eye balls for Cricket that Pakistan has but the PCB doesn't know how to monetize it.

Anything can help PCB to start with as per the recent economical situation. Media rights are a crucial aspect of the PCB's revenue generation strategy. The board auctions these rights to broadcasters and digital platforms to ensure that cricket matches are accessible to fans around the world with the positive face. So yeah slow move but a good move!

Interesting that the PCB is going the opposite direction with media rights by bundling PSL and international matches.

In the recent past we have seen the ICC unbundle and breakup the rights by region. The BCCI also sells rights separately for IPL and international matches. In both these cases, they have reaped rich rewards.

Let's see how the PCB fair.

PSL will always be a relatively more domestic event. Not many eye balls at the international level. And the Pakistani consumer’s is being broken. Don’t expect anything good at this situation. The economy has to turn around for the better for the PSL to grow as well.

ARY Communications secures media rights for New Zealand men’s and West Indies women’s cricket series

ARY Communications has won media rights of the upcoming men’s and women's series following a transparent tender process, which was run in line with the Pakistan Cricket Board’s overarching strategy and policy to enhance the quality of international bilateral cricket broadcasts for Pakistani fans.

This agreement ensures that the five men’s Twenty20 Internationals between Pakistan and New Zealand, scheduled from April 18 to April 27 in Rawalpindi and Lahore, and Pakistan women’s versus West Indies women’s series comprising three ODIs and five T20Is from April 18 to May 3 in Karachi, will be broadcast live on A Sports HD – the country’s premier HD Sports Channel.

The partnership between PCB and ARY Communications had commenced in 2022 when country’s one of the most popular and influential networks won the media rights for the HBL Pakistan Super League.

The latest media rights agreement represents a significant 41 per cent increase from the previous series involving these sides. This reflects the PCB team’s adept sales skills, ensuring maximum revenue generation from the upcoming home series that can then be reinvested into cricket development.

Salman Iqbal, Founder and Chief Executive of ARY Digital:

“A Sports HD will serve as the primary destination for Pakistan cricket during these two exciting series, and I am thrilled to continue ARY’s longstanding partnership with the Pakistan Cricket Board.

“We have curated our content portfolio to promote premium sporting events in Pakistan, and this partnership is a crucial step in achieving our mission.”

Salman Naseer, PCB Chief Operating Officer:

“We are delighted to collaborate with A Sports HD for the upcoming men’s and women’s series against New Zealand and West Indies, respectively.

“This partnership underscores PCB Chairman Mr Mohsin Naqvi's vision of providing our fans with high-quality broadcasts through a fair and transparent process, thereby enhancing PCB's brand value as a national asset. We are optimistic that this new milestone in our partnership will be mutually beneficial.”

A Sports HD has a successful track record of showcasing various prestigious events including the HBL Pakistan Super League, bilateral matches featuring the Pakistan men’s team, ICC Men’s and Women’s T20 World Cups, ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, South Africa’s SA20, Lanka Premier League, Major League Cricket, Canada Global T20, Abu Dhabi T10, ILT20, Fair Break Invitational T20, Formula 1, Formula E, and La Liga.

Lol, why doesn't the PCB release a figure? These percentages are useless without a number

I agree, USD 35 million over 4 years is a really low figure

But I thought that the media rights for PSL 2024 & 2025 was already sold at about PKR 7-8 billion, so there seems to be some discrepancy here.

I also don't like them co-mingling PSL with Pakistan games. They should treat PSL as a separate entity because it is a different model.

Don't think PCB is as much to blame for that as our economic woes and PTV's monopoly on sports rights for decades which strangled the growth of the private media market until recently.

ARY & TransGroup consortium becomes PCB’s International Media Rights Partner for New Zealand and West Indies series

The Pakistan Cricket Board has awarded the international media rights of the upcoming Pakistan versus New Zealand men’s and Pakistan versus West Indies women’s series to the consortium of ARY Digital and TransGroup International following a transparent tender process, which also involved participation from two international networks.

The five-match T20I series between Pakistan and New Zealand will be played from April 18 to April 27 in Rawalpindi and Lahore, while the three ODIs and five T20Is in the women’s series featuring Pakistan and the West Indies will be held from April 18 to May 3 in Karachi.

Salman Iqbal, Founder and CEO of ARY Digital:

“ARY is pleased to collaborate with TransGroup International to secure the international media rights partnership with the Pakistan Cricket Board. We eagerly anticipate delivering thrilling cricket action to fans worldwide.”

Rao Usman Hashim, Chief Operating Officer of TransGroup International:

“TransGroup International and ARY are thrilled to acquire the international media rights of the Pakistan Cricket Board for the upcoming series. Our teams will work closely to ensure a compelling mix of men’s and women’s cricket for international broadcasters.”

Salman Naseer, PCB Chief Operating Officer:

“Pakistan has become the hub for top-tier cricket. We have successfully hosted numerous international teams, providing quality cricketing entertainment to audiences worldwide. With the allocation of these global rights, the Pakistani diaspora and fans worldwide will enjoy the broadcasts of the New Zealand men’s and West Indies women’s fixtures. We appreciate our partnership with both ARY and TransGroup International and thank them for their continued support of Pakistan Cricket.”

The Pakistan Cricket Board will share a comprehensive list of global broadcasters in due course.

Lol the PCB were demanding $21 million for 3 years. Just imagine $99,000 for a Pakistan vs New Zealand Men's T-20 series. Has Pakistan Cricket become so unattractive and unmarketable to global audiences? Well certainly our performances for a long time in all formats have not merited a high billing and here we have the PCB go back to Babar Azam as captain inspite of his track record for the last 4-5 years?

=======================================================

As per media reports, PCB set an exorbitant reserve price of around 21 million dollars for the three-year international media rights, but no one could match it The Pakistan Cricket Board has awarded the international media rights of the upcoming Pakistan versus New Zealand men’s and Pakistan versus West Indies women’s series for $99,000.

PSL each match generates around 0.4 to 0.5 million $ and international match generates just 0.09million $ !!!!!!
That too if I assume above said value is not for entire Pakistan newzealand series ..
We give too much preference to international cricket than it actually gets from general public ..We are far away from ground realities, I think..

One ipl match generates 14.6 million$ in media rights and no bidders for PCB entire international media rights for three years just because minimum bid value is 21 million $ ????
International cricket is just a side actor in world of league crickets ..players recognised it far prior than cricket pundits ..

Is this 99,000 dollars per match or for the entire series?

Entire series
Is PCB gonna lose money on a T20I series? It must cost lot more to host a match than $20k.

IIRC a drs test cost more that half a million to host in subcontinent. Pakistan unfortunately has to spend extra on security.

This is what happens when you market a clown like Rizwan as your top guy!

How much is Asports paying to the PCB for this series?

The reason the PCB is desperate for $$ is because they get almost nothing out of their biggest cash cow, PSL. The franchises clean up almost the entire $$ barely leaving crumbs for the PCB. The international matches seems to generate some revenue, but with extra security costs, not sure if PCB actually makes any money.

This situation leaves the PCB dependent on ICC (BCCI) handouts. A very sad state of affairs for a huge cricket market.

The PCB really needs to redo the whole PSL financial setup. That needs people in charge who know what they are doing. Does the new regime have this capability?

The 99000 usd is clearly a typo and maybe missing a 0
Don’t think it’s a typo

This is what we have become. Who will pay too dollar to broadcast the rubbish we display? Two anchors opening the innings in T20?

I understand you want to make it all about the cricketers etc but no, 99k for a T20 series does not pass the smell test. 99k would barely cover the lodging, travel, food expenses of the visitors. PCB would literally be incurring a loss from a T20 series, their most profitable format.

100% a typo

PCB has become so pathetic with their swift and multiple changes every few months that nobody is interested to be a part of this setup. Not sure if PCB will ever be making money with this kind of setup.

Things would have been very different if Pak was not obsessed with sabotaging IPL. More money could have been made by sending mercenaries to play in IPL than what is being made by hosting such series. Players value in international market would have grown by getting exposure at such a league which could have brought more income for home series broadcasting rights. Rather it was decided to shoot oneself in the foot.

Things have gone downhill ever since the genius strategic plan was given :ik to blackmail and arm twist BCCI by not sending Pak players to participate in IPL season 2.

It backfired and resulted in self inflicted isolation which in turn resulted in reduction of one's own brand value. :inti

There is a reason PCB cannot boycott any ICC tournament. They need the ICC money to pay bills.

PSL will be like this only and PCB will be happy with the few million they make as franchisee fees.

There are leagues being bankrolled by people with deeper pockets and PCB cannot compete there.

A simple thing that many people miss including Pakistanis is the fact that Pakistan has been in a economic turmoil since Imran was ousted from the government.

While the inflation rate is probably not as high as it was going in the year 2022. It's still damp and the instability is still there. Be it economic or political. This directly effects the institutions of the country and PCB is no exception to that.

Whatever agreements on the matter economy PCB made on PSL with the franchises, be it the draft purse, dollar to pkr peg or revenue sharing. The grounds on which these terms were signed have changed drastically.

In an unstable market. Investors are always hesitant to invest and the very fact that if you look at Cricket leagues from global commercial perspective. PSL has to compete with other new emerging leagues around the world as well and those leagues, their franchises and their base country's sponsors can afford or have the appetite to spend a lot more in their leagues than in PSL.

Unless and until the country fixes it's direction on politics and economy. PSL cannot go on to compete in becoming the second best league after IPL.

Should have organized this series a bit better. With rain playing spoil sport, even the $99,000 tag seems excessive

This is just hogwash. BCCI would've found another excuse to ban Pakistanis from IPL. GoI has tried to isolate Pakistan in all fields and is even an official policy

3. Should also keep politics away from sports but that's not possible from the Indian side.

Besides Pakistan cricket isn't going to die without Indian money. We're past our dark days and our government will cover any shortfalls the PCB faces

According to Dr Nauman, the PCB is expecting to earn Rs 2 billion from the NZ series i.e. close to $7 million

That's 7000% increase from 100k.

Insane growth!

There are many sources i.e. local broad casters i.e. Geo Super, A Sports, foreign broadcasters, local digital streaming rights, title sponsorship rights, gate receipts, sponsorship. $7 million for a 5 T-20 series against a NZ side missing the bulk of their main players is a big amount.

The PCB should ideally aim to invite the likes of England, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, West Indies for an ODI, T-20 series every year, maybe even host a tri series. I am sure the board can make good money from these ventures and find the funds necessary to upgrade their stadiums in the long run.

61% means nothing, what are the exact amounts in question?

61% of $30 million is a good achievement but 61% of $1 million means nothing.

PCB deliberately avoids releasing exact figures to avoid public riddicule

Pak has had huge inflation in the last three years. I wouldn't be surprised to run numbers and see most of the hike is due to plain old inflation along with slightly increased number of matches and T20s due to T20 world cup in 2026.
