The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is mulling having a age-cap of 70 years for its officials and administrators after India cricket board under Supreme Court directive was forced to do so.

The PCB is currently headed by 82-year-old Shaharyar Khan. The board officials are also thinking of not giving assignments to officials who will cross that age-cap.

“The board has now drawn up a shortlist of potential candidates all former test players who will be given assignments with the teams in future,”
a source said.

Last year after the tour to England the board had ended the contract of former captain Intikhab Alam as manager of the senior team and with the board as he was 76.

It appointed 68-year-old Wasim Bari as the Pakistan team manager. The source further said that it was also decided that any appointment of a former player even from the shortlist who is 60 or above will have to be ratified by the board Chairman.

The list of former players who will now be appointed as managers of various teams include Iqbal Qasim, Haroon Rasheed, Talat Ali, Moin Khan, Jalaluddin, Nadeem Khan, Iqbal Sikander.

The board has also prepared a list of coaches who will be assigned with the A and junior teams.

Meanwhile in another example of the many U-turns taken by the board, sources have confirmed that former Test batsman, Basit Ali, who was removed from his position as head coach of the women’s team and Chairman of national junior selection committee has been brought back into the fold.

“It has been decided to bring Basit back as chief junior selector just days after the Chairman sacked him for being involved in a physical brawl with former international, Mahmood Hamid at the national stadium during the national ODI Cup,”
the source added.

These guys on both sides of the border should realize it's international sport.

In an ideal world, nobody under 50 should make the cut.

On a sidenote, Shahryar Khan comes across as a cartoon - what kind of 'diplomat' he was one will never know.

He had a spell in early to mid 2000s (after 2003 WC) and tbh he did a good job and was very sane

But it seems now and it feels wrong to say but age has caught up

Dunno why would one want to pt themselves through this when youre 80+

After 65+ I would wanna just chill and not take any pressure

Will be shocked if this happens. That means there's a lot of oldies in PCB putting themselves out of a job.

Proving younger than your biological age is not a problem in Pakistan. :yk

Is it possible to throw a sport board under the civil services?

Does any other country do this?

Pcb pay is very good. Alot better then what others are getting.

A civil service officer of 19 grade would get 70k in 2007. Thanks to zardari the pays increased in css.

When you turn towards old age, you become addicted, you cant sit home thus you have to work.

It's not the office staff that matter it's the guys who are running the PCB that need to be looked at. People leading PCB are ruining cricket in Pakistan.

Honestly, Misbah would be a great choice for one of these roles in 5-10 years. He was a good player and is an educated man.
