The PCB recognizes that having a lot of teams in the city based 4 day, ODI and T-20 tournament and the department 4 day, ODI and T-20 tournament has resulted in a massive influx of average low quality players and hence the dilution of quality in domestic cricket. Therefore it is very difficult for the selectors to asses the quality and calibre of the top performers from these tournaments.
Therefore to eliminate this problem the PCB is considering pooling in the national team players, the top domestic performers from the regional tournaments, department tournaments, U19 and A teams and making them participate in a 5-6 team Pentangular 4 day, ODI, T-20 tournament to truly assess the quality, caliber of the players and these tournaments will also be held at a time when the national team will not have any international commitments therefore the national team centrally contracted players will have to participate in these tournaments and will not be granted NOC's for leagues abroad. This will also help the national team players get some necessary ragra, development time in domestic cricket.
The question is where can the PCB squeeze in these pentangular tournaments, it is very tough to play cricket in Pakistan from May to July and the time periods from August to March are already booked.
