Umar Akmal took the cricketing world by storm when he smashed a 60 ball century against Lasith Mallinga lead talented Sri Lankan bowling attack. In the next few years, he smashed famous bowlers like Mitchel Johnson etc in famous Pakistani victories. At this peak, he was a freak talent with unmatched and neverseen before hitting abilities. Most importantly he did in internationals, a format Suryavanshi hasn't even been selected for.
 
Only things comparable here is fitness of both players. . vaibhav is Next Level player. :kp

TBH Umar was way better than present Pakistani batters. He could have won you that Mohali game had your other established batters didnt do tuk tuk all night. That Dhoni's jump and jubilation when Bhajji got his wicket was more of a relief when he was taking the game away.

no he would had not. The reason why we lost the mohalli game was because of Umar Akmal failing.

Other batsmen doing tuk tuk had nothing to do with Umar's dismissal. It's not like he hit a rash shot to get caught or anything like that.
 
Umar Akmal of 2009-2010 was a rare sighting that has never been replicated since. Someone or something didn’t like him skyrocketing to world class status and so foul play is possible.

Keep that in mind when comparing him to others and you will see UA wins almost all of these comparisons.

People don't realize that Peak Umar Akmal was being talked about as a generational talent.

That famous Virat vs UA thread here, for the first few pages everyone was backing Umar bhai to emerge as THE star of the era.

Yes, no doubt, he faded quickly afterwards. His career is below average and in hindight this thread looks absurd. But only hardcore passionate fans remember what Peak Ummy was like. He was a force of nature.
 
Since I don't judge a cover by it's book, hence I'll keep my opinion reserved.

That being said, UA was the best Pakistani batsman to have emerged in last 20 years.

His real downfall started after he put on weight and became unfit.

Before that his failiures were only due to external negative influence on his mental composure.

You have to wait for Vaibhav to play at least one year in international cricket, before making any comparison threads against great Umar Akmal

Guys like Azhar Ali, Asad Shafiq etc. achieved much more.

At the end of the day, it is about the achievements. Talent is subjective.

Nobody cares about talent if you cannot convert potential into achievement.

Umar Akmal had all the talent in the world, but none of the discipline or work ethic required to become a great player. He was lazy and he wasted his talent.

I would much rather take someone like Azhar Ali over him, who had none of the same natural ability but worked hard, maximised what he had, and achieved far beyond his perceived limitations.

Jokes apart- Umar Akmal did look like a legit talent when he played in Nzl and Aus in his first series.

Suryavanshi is on another level, he is a once in a life time prodigy. Will he have a long, successful career, time will tell but definitely a never before seen talent in cricket.

Everybody loved me when i was an Indian.
Now i am the most hated person because i chose to celebrate my Pakistaniyat and stick to my core beliefs. If this is the price i must pay for embracing truth, so be it, brother. I cannot compromize about my national pride and faith in my deen.

Brother once upon a time I lived to entertain. But that only brought me u happiness and I was in the verge of retiring at 69k posts until brother @DeadlyVenom and @gazza619 requested me to stay.

Now I have fully devoted myself to the cause of my watan and my deen. A vow I do not intend to break. I’m truly Dil Dil Pakistan Jaan Jaan Pakistan now.

Not a day goes by when I myself don’t regret turning back at the request of yourself and @gazza619 to embark on this dangerous and difficult mission of taking on enemies of Pakistan.

Life was easy playing the fake character of a Sanatani Hindutvawadi. But it was never fulfilling.

We had comparisons with Tendulkar, Kohli, De villiers etc. I think we are soo cocky that we didnt bother to make one with Suresh Raina.

I remember that era.

The first, legit thread when Umar Akmal was an upcoming player and Kohli hadn't established himself yet was Umar Akmal vs Virat Kohli.

Then there was Umar Akmal vs Faf du Plessis. Then Umar Akmal vs Suresh Raina. Then Umar Akmal vs Ravi Bopara. The trajectory was going in a wrong direction for UA fans.

And then there was this hilarious situation in the 2014-2015 period when anybody compared to Umar Akmal got stupendous success. The Umar Akmal vs Martin Guptill thread was followed very quickly by an ODI double hundred by Guptill. 237* at that.

After a while, Umar Akmal himself faded away.

Not much of a talent UA if he became a ***** cricketer in his mid 20's and 30's.
