The personal information of more than a billion Indians stored in the world’s largest biometric database can be bought online for less than £6, according to an investigation by an Indian newspaper.

The original report.

The response by the authorities was disgraceful - instead of thanking the journalist for bringing this to everyone’s attention the government filed a criminal complaint against the journalist.

It's a huge mess now. If they were planning to implement these kind of stuffs they should have done the necessary measures to protect it too.

Data of a Billion Indians sold for 500 rupees?

What does this tell us in term of the price of an Indian soul?

Quick back on a cigarette packet calculation says the data of each Indian is worth a measly 0.0000005 paise?

Clearly value for money!

And this is why I am skeptical over all this support for biometrics and cashless society.

That is why I provided the wrong address when I applied for the number. And the article is misleading. With 500 rupees, you need to know the aadhar number before you can get the personal details linked with that number. Also Snowden, who is a known traitor of his country, should be the last one to preach what we should do.
