Believe it or not but Peshawar Zalmi’s and West Indies all rounder Darren Sammy is now an honorary Pakistan citizen.

The Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervaiz Khattak offered the explosive all rounder the honorary citizenship of Pakistan on special request of Peshawar Zalmi owner and a passionate cricket fan Javed Afridi. The Chief Minister tweeted on social media website Twitter to make this major announcement.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">On Special Request frm <a href="https://twitter.com/JAfridi10" Jafridi10</a> ,we are honoured to offer a Honorary Pak Citizenship to <a href="https://twitter.com/darrensammy88">@darrensammy88</a> ! <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Darren Sammy in reply tweeted that he is extremely thankful for this and will happily accept the offer.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="in" dir="ltr">Khattab sb dera dera Manana ! Pa sar stargo ma qabool de <a href="https://t.co/ULWYKEQv2d">https://t.co/ULWYKEQv2d</a></p>— Darren Sammy (@darrensammy88) <a href="https://twitter.com/darrensammy88/status/724714563971604481">April 25, 2016</a></blockquote>
<script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

The Zalmi owner Javed Afridi had earlier tweeted that he would request the government of Pakistan to offer honorary citizenship to Darren Sammy because of the players love for this nation and his willingness to learn Pashtu.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Will request Govt of Pakistan to offer Honorary Citizenship (Nationality) for <a href="https://twitter.com/darrensammy88">@darrensammy88</a> ,with regards to his love for this Nation.</p>— Javed Afridi Jafridi10) <a href="https://twitter.com/JAfridi10/status/724700951651717120">April 25, 2016</a></blockquote>

How can a CM offer 'Pak' citizenship? Can this be technically done?

I heard somewhere that Mohammad Sami is going to be awarded Bangladeshi Passport, Mushfiq to get an Indian passport

this is getting a bit ridiculous honestly

Javed afridi is such a wannabe, annoying guy who will pull of these stunts to stay in the news

How come a Provincial Govt can offer the Pakistani Nationality to anyone. Not in their power.

Talk about taking the award for being the most negative poster around.
Yeah, no harm in this tbh, it's nice to see foreign players being given a lot of respect. Will only benefit Pak cricket and PSL in the long run.

it would be funny though if Government of Pakistan sends him a tax bill at the end of the year :))

only then would it be worth it

Nice gesture. WI offered Pak players a wage in their domestic league when no other tourney would take them.

Thats a nice gesture. He's such a lovable character, wonder if he considers actually living in the country, or its picturesque north :)

Honorary means nothing except for a nice gesture

As far as we are concerned these are genuine tweets unless we recieve official word proving otherwise

Pathetic and cringeworthy.

Just goes to show how naive, insecure and hungry (for foreign appreciation) we are as a nation.

Foreign players have been mingling with the Indian culture, speaking Hindi, singing Bollywood songs while playing in India for 2-3 months every year for nearly a decade now and they haven't been given 'honorary' Indian citizenship.

Not even the likes of McGrath and Steve Waugh who have been actively working with Indian academies for a number of years now, but here we have a Caribbean guy being offered honorary Pakistani citizenship for repeating a few Pashto phrases to entertain the Zalmi fans during a three week PSL held in Dubai.

Someone who will not be willing to step foot in Pakistan for 5 mins.

Nonetheless, I guess it is the result of being isolated from other cricket teams and as a result, we feel left out due to which we feel honored that some Caribbean player spoke a few lines of our regional language while sitting in Dubai.

All of this isolation is of course completely self-inflicted.

Fake account of Pervaiz Khattak. If we see the timing of the tweets, CM approved the citizenship in just half and hour and that too after midnight? Publicity stunt alert.

Looks like Pakistan now want to get Darren Sammy as captain of Pakistan ODI & T20I teams :))

News anchors on Twitter are reporting that the Twitter account for CM khatak is fake and his office has denied any knowledge of any "honorary citizenship "! Seems someone has fooled a lot of people by one fake tweet!

Hes such a mediocre player though. Even if he was good whats the point of this?

It is fine if Sammy got fooled by a fake account, but Javed should have known it better.

Nonetheless, that is not the issue. It is quite clear that Javed is pressing for Sammy to get honorary citizenship which is downright pathetic.

I hope Pervez Khattak ignores his request.

Can you stop being so whiny for a change, and get a life. Its not a big deal, happens all over the world. George of Pakistan was given the citizenship when all he did was visit the country for fun because he loved us, Sammy has shown he likes the local culture.

Get over with OTT reaction

if true I think this is great. Not surprised some indians and a certain other depression ka mareez have to bring some negativity to a feel good story about pakistan.

George did not just visit this country for fun.

He stayed in Pakistan for 9 years and married a Pakistan girl. He had become more Pakistani than British by his own admission, and genuinely loved this country from the core of his heart.

However, the extremists did not accept him as part of this nation and his wife too had to cop a lot of criticism for marrying a foreigner. Unfortunately he had to leave the country to save himself and his family.

Finally, the assassination of Salman Taseer was the straw that broke the camel's back and the celebration of Mumtaz Qadri's heroism that followed.

He cannot be compared with Sammy who played a three week tournament in Dubai and repeated a few Pashto lines.

George spent a decade in Pakistan, embraced the people, the culture, married a Pakistani girl and named his son after one of Pakistan's greatest sons - Faiz Ahmed Faiz.

He would still be living in this country if it wasn't for religious extremism.

is it pakistani citizenship or zalmi citizenship... PCB should send this j.afridi a showcause notice LOL..

What an inane idea.

You give honorary citizenship to people who do something great for humanity, science or your country.

What has Sammy done.

Us, Pakistani have this insane desire to be appreciated. If someone publishes a good article in a magazine, it will be shared for 10 years. If some nobody US congressman/British MP says something nice, we'd be going gaga for days.

Let Sammy bring his team to Pakistan first or lead an international eleven, speak out for the country in global forums or save Haroon Rasheed from a burning building, then we talk' OK Mon?

This is a fake twitter account of CM KPK.

This news is not correct.

KP gov has nothing to do with it.

JA has asked president Pakistan.

Pathetic and Cringeworthy because Virat Kohli didn't get one

For that you need to be a resident. And to be a resident your stay in Pakistan needs to be more than certain amount of days. Around 160+. There are laws for non resident tax payer but they dont apply on sammy's profession.

Pathetic and Cringeworthy because Virat Kohli didn't get one

Pathetic and cringeworthy because he has done absolutely nothing to deserve it.

Pakistani citizenship may have zero value in today's world, but it doesn't mean that we start throwing it around for nothing.

Not really necessary but nothing we can do to stop it. Hopefully he isn't given it.

Won't step a foot inside Pakistan yet gets the honorary citizenship, javed afridi should stay away from Pakistan cricket.

#GreenRoars plz delete this thread
thats a fake account of parvez khattak

is there any way the pakistani fan place can be rid of j afridi and his monumental embarrassment to humankind? what an immature, unprofesional ******.

Sindh should offer gayle citizenship and name him Gayle Bhutta.
Seriously, can state govt offer citizenships? In India its central foreign ministry dept

Good, now Sammy can be pulled over at airports for 'random checks'

J/k

Honestly this makes us look like a Banana republic where citizenship a can be handed out on a whim

This is beyond embarrassing.

Honorary citizenship for a cricket player?

An honorary degree from a KPK university would have been more appropriate for the situation.

On top of that they believed a fake account

Lol, honorary citizenship for a cricket player. Has somehow winning the world cup enriched Pakistan?

Give it to someone who actually does something meaningful to the country, like helping the poor/charities in the country.

Its a fake account. KPK govt has cleared this. Kindly correct the thread title

Lol. better to give KP to Pak citizenship and poach him :abd

You joke, but he actually might take that up, he's desperate to play international cricket and Pakistan play in the UAE so it's fine.

It's probably be less embarrassing than playing for South Africa, people will constantly mock him especially after all the lengths he went to prove his love for England over South Africa and engaging in 'textgate'

What's going on b/w Sammy and Javed Afridi? Javed Afridi seems to be in love with him for someone unknown reason..

It was a fake account and lol Sammy fell for it..:P
