PIA Chairman Azam Saigol resigns

He is brother in law of Mian Mansha a husband of Amber Sehgol (owner of Dawn News).

Saigol and Sehgal are different i think?

Him resigning means only one thing. One of the engine was not working before flight departure. No one resigns in Pakistan.

The government will use this tragedy to push for PIA privatization. Book it.

Which will be a good thing. A private owner will get rid of all that excess fat and political appointments.

PIA needed to be privatized two decades ago. We saw with PTCL and KESC how privatization can work wonders for a loss making organization.

Saigol family is a very well respected family of Pakistan . They were the ones who bankrolled Pakistan's treasury when Pakistan was about to go bankrupt. Maybe not such a bad guy .

Or the government wants to be seen to be doing something, and pushing him until he jumps qualifies as "something."

This is the second time he resigned from PIA. He was a board member of PIA back in 2013/14 when he resigned because of his differences with Shujat Azeem.

Privitization is not as simple as moving a magic wand. It is fraught with issues. A PML-N-led privitization will look a lot like what happened in transition economies after the collapse of Soviet Union. Expect a lot of rent seeking behavior. Such privitizations are bound to fail.

The Sharifs could sell it to themselves. They wouldn't even have to change the acronym: it could be the Patwari Ittefaq Airlines. Since it is doing so badly, they could buy it at a bargain, and then sell the planes for scrap.

Zardari sold the kesc to himself as well although it is not officially his. From what I know they used kesc properties as collateral to pay for kesc shares. It is a common business practice when the shares of a company are valued below the asset value. Nothing wrong in that but the conflict of interest.
Although I think privatisation of electricity producers and distributors is needed badly in Pakistan. It will not work with the corrupt practices of the governments we have though.
