That does look awful, but I think the umpire reviewed to see if the ball was in his hand or not.

It is not ceremonial! One umpire MAY concentrate in a T20 for the entire game but not in an ODI for 100 overs and tests of course not. That's the point of this post!! They don't need to concentrate anymore as everything is referred to the the 3rd Ump
