Why is the umpire asking for a replay?

:))

That does look awful, but I think the umpire reviewed to see if the ball was in his hand or not.

Only saving grace.

But I believe umpires are happy to dump this on technology and take the easy way out.

One more thing I will add is that its getting to the stage that there is no reason for a review/replay signal - just wait for replay anyways.

Why does cricket need a leg umpire anymore?

To be fair, with the comical run outs in the last few series, aussies forgetting to ground their bats etc, its always worth utilizing the tech.could have kicked the stumps before breaking them with the ball, the ball may not have been in his hand

yep - seems more like a ceremonial post - although height no-balls are usually his call
It is not ceremonial! One umpire MAY concentrate in a T20 for the entire game but not in an ODI for 100 overs and tests of course not. It is not easy to concentrate on no balls, LBWs, wides, etc all day by one man.

Considering where the ump is standing he couldn't have been sure when the bails had been dislodged as his vision is blocked by Shadab. I think good decision to go 3rd umpire.

That's the point of this post!! They don't need to concentrate anymore as everything is referred to the the 3rd Ump

No, not everything. It is mostly runouts or stumps - I know this runout we are discussing was a bad referral or it was probably just to add more excitement to the cowd who knows. Usually a player walks off himself when out by some distance. What I am trying to say is that MOST calls are still made by umpires and one man can not do it all day.

Since the umpires rotate every over - I think it also helps give the front umpire a rest :)
