Some say PPP laid the foundation of downfall of PCB. Others disagree and consider PMLN the reason behind this mess. In all this hue and cry, some consider former Prime Minister and world cup winning captain Imran Khan to be the main character behind this dismal state of Pakistan cricket. So as a cricket fan whom do you guys consider the main culprit behind the current dismal state of Pakistan cricket.

Our whole system has criminals running it for the last 75 years with a few notable exceptions. Look at just the last 3 guys. Sethi helped NS to win 2013 election with his rigging- many doubted IK for accusations at the time but we know subsequent events proved him 100% right, as we saw NSs relationship with Sethi develop into a love affair in public, then we had Zaka-AZs front man for his laundering and now we have a boot polisher with no knowledge of cricket and just acts like Raja Baboo.

Do you not think, lack of continuity in coaches, constant chop and change effects the players?

Normally, with lack of clarity like this, players go defensive, they play for their places ,hence the performance of the team is affected.

Let me put it this way, there is a tendency of PCB to be like this ever since i started watching cricket(1995-96), but the players were able to manoeuvre around it coz they were capable to compete with other teams, there is a skill gap as well esp in TEST and it’s becoming visible in ODI.

Indian cricket is also riddled with politicians playing games. Alsmot all past BCCI presidents were either politicians or closely linked to politics. Current coach is a former MP. They seem to be doing fine.

Pakistan just relies on heroes and messiahs too much to dig them out of difficult pahses. They need a well defined system and institutions which takes decades to build. If you have built an institution that can autorun with few administrators or bureaucracts then you have done well.

Isn't the first class game in Pakistan less organised than in Scotland or Nederlands? Does Pakistan even have a recognised coaching program? The game has moved on tremendously in the last couple of decades, Pakistan is still playing goolidanda.

Good point. As cricket became linked to big tv contracts, the other boards upped their game. Our board became a dumping ground where politicians and Generals dumped people that helped them come to power to massage their egos and act as favours returned so today we have him as chairman

I can see that but there are foreign coaches who have had success with Pakistan my friend, chiefly Bob Woolmer and he to me is best cricket coach of all time; Gary Kirsten is of that ilk and when he is willing to come to the table you treat him with respect. I don’t want to talk politics, look I tend have similar views as you and I could turn against those people just based on that but they’re not bad guys and have been talking a lot of sense about Pakistan cricket when nobody else does and our team keeps stooping to new lows. I appreciate people have some strong political views but we need to try our best to keep them separate from professional sport and just judge the timeline for ourselves.

I like Imran Khan and I know @Rana and a few others don’t as much, in fact I have family who don’t like him much either but it doesn’t mean we can’t get along and if you’re a respectable person that’s what matters more to me. I also know some individuals who support IK but are the spawns of satan as people, so it is worth keeping that in mind as well.

Judge the timeline as I said.

The bitter truth is that Pakistan can hardly even be considered a country. As the famous saying goes, every country has an army, in Pakistan’s case however, an army has control of a country since 78 years. Pakistani people in general live in a delusion that they live in an actual country when in fact they do not have functioning institutions, empowered entrepreneurs , their leaders and army have a license to loot them as much as they like, the people can not bring about any change and always have to eventually make peace with whatever they get.

There are deficiencies in Pakistan and its cricket that are beyond any defence or justification yet people feel replacing Babar Azam was a win for them.

Bangladeshiz whom the Pakistanis looked down upon for decades and second class citizens have built an economy significantly larger than theirs, their cricket stadiums are better.

The currency has depreciated to alarming levels. Every other year they go to IMF for bail out.

After all this, if anyone in Pakistan believes he’s living in an actual country, I would say please tell someone to slap you real hard and hope that you wake up soon.

loads of reasons, wrong to blame it on the people in charge now, most have been covered already. the cricket team is a reflection of the country. its all been exacerbated by the rise of social media and the internet generation, young pakistanis just arent that into cricket anymore, so the only saving grace, a giant talent pool, just isnt there anymore.

where we used to get maybe 3 or 4 generational players in 80s, 90s, now we are struggling to find one over the past 20 years. if you dont have professional systems in place, you will be completely at the whim of the vagaries of fortune.

also india being the sole powerhouse of cricket marginalises Pakistan even more, making a tough spot, that much worse. its like a perfect storm, and i even if pak win stuff every ten or fifteen years, it'll be down more to luck than any planning.
