Wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Inglis, born in Leeds but moved to Australia at 14, gained national attention in the last two years, performing well for Western Australia and Perth Scorchers. As a versatile and powerful batter, he had a breakthrough Sheffield Shield season in 2020-21, scoring 585 runs with three first-class hundreds. He showcased adaptability in the BBL, moving between the top order and the middle for the Scorchers. Despite not being part of previous series, his consistent runs in county cricket for Leicestershire earned him a spot in Australia's 2021 T20 World Cup squad, and he was part of the winning team in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023.

Fifty for Josh Inglis.

Terrific knock in the first T20I vs India, he has dominated the Indian attack and smashed fifty from just 29 balls.

Good find for Australia.

Did well in World Cup too (his semi-final knock was crucial).

How they kept on selecting flop Carey. This guy can play spin with ease too

A blazing maiden T20I century for Josh Inglis

Took just 47 deliveries to get to the milestone.

Top class prospect

Already one of the best international white ball keeper batsmen

He can become the best keeper-batter soon.

He seems like a proper batter who plays proper cricket shots. Nothing funky in his batting.

19 - Phil Salt
21 - Rilee Rossouw
23 - Josh Inglis

Very good find for Australia.

Inglis and Carey should be the LOI keepers for the next 5-6 years.

What an inning from Josh. He is a dangerous batter. Perfect guy to be your wicket keeper in white ball cricket.

Inglis in Test conversation, but not as opener: Bailey

Wicketkeeper could find a way into Test side in the future, while the spotlight is set to be trained on the Australia A top-order ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy

Josh Inglis is not under consideration for the vacant Test opening position, but selection chief George Bailey admits the wicketkeeper's dominant recent form could soon see him play as a specialist batter.

NSW coach Greg Shipperd, one of Australian cricket's most respected judges of talent, last week flagged Inglis as a potential Test opener after Western Australia’s No.6 peeled off centuries in consecutive Sheffield Shield matches to begin the season.

The 29-year-old has now scored four tons in his past seven Shield matches, backing up an impressive run in white-ball cricket for Australia too.

While Bailey suggested Australia's incumbent gloveman in both limited-overs teams is not in the mix to partner Usman Khawaja against India, he said Inglis' hot form has him firmly in the conversation if a more familiar position becomes available.

"I've spoken to Josh on this. Not in the short term, I don't think that he's someone that we would be looking to place at the top of the order," Bailey told reporters on Monday.

"But there's no doubt that the form is really fantastic at the moment … the ability to jump back into domestic cricket and dominate has been fantastic.

"I think in different series at different times of the year, he would firmly come into the mix purely as a batter the way he's been going.

"If the right opportunity opened up throughout the summer, in the spots where we think he's most capable of performing, I think he'd be firmly in that conversation as well."

Inglis is one of several contenders to captain Australia's T20 side against Pakistan next month. All-format players, including regular T20 skipper Mitch Marsh, are sitting out the three-match series to prepare for the Test bout against India.

"We've been really clear that we are prioritising the preparation for individuals around the Test summer and that will be the first time that we get that group together," said Bailey, with the tail-end of the Pakistan T20s set to overlap with the Test squad’s arrival in Perth next month.

"So rather than switching guys in and out and becoming quite messy, it was just deemed more appropriate for a number of reasons to separate them out."

Josh Inglis has been named Australia's captain for the upcoming T20I Series against Pakistan and will lead the ODI team in the final match against Pakistan in Perth.

He takes over from Test skipper Pat Cummins, who, along with other Test players, is focusing on preparations for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

@mominsaigol

Someone was saying that Australia don’t have a good keeper+batsman and they would love to have Rizwan.

Well guess what, they are appointing Inglis as their Captain in the 3rd ODI and the T20i series v Pakistan

I'm aware brother.

Any one who's been following aussie cricket knows that Australia has huge plans for inglis.

The guy is literally the most improved batter for Australia in recent times. He went from a no 7 to a proper no 4 batsmen.

And yes I repeat a Proper no 4 batter. Players like Inglis will keep on improving. Infact trust me by 2025 ct and 2026 wc he'll be one of the best players in the world.

The guy is a proper hard working cricketer who seeks to improve his game day by day.

Rizwan on the other hand can stick to endlessly playing on the legside in nets

Another bang average WK batsman produced by Australia post Gilchrist. The list just doesn’t end.

Rizwan is far superior but to be fair with Inglis, he will definitely make the bench of Pakistan in all formats ahead of the likes of Sarfaraz, Azam, Haris, Haseebullah etc.

0% cricket knowledge exposed again, but carry on.

Very average cricketer I am actually worried about Australia there is a dramatic drop in quality once you look past top 12-14 cricketers they need to produce prospects soon

These are all monster T20 players. The way Short, Inglis, McGurk etc can smash that short of a length into the stands is ridiculous.

But ODI batting in the Top 4/5 is a bit different.

Rizwan haters were calling this mediocre player better than him.

Rizwan is comfortably better in all aspects including captaincy. He walks into the Australian team.

Yep. Hyped him too much.. He was pretty mediocre in this tour

I'd rather take Inglis getting out on 0 then rizwan's 16 of 26 or his 44 of 71's in odi. No thanks.

Besides what has rizzu even done this series? He's been worse then Inglis. Inglis' 49 is still > anything rizzu has done this tour

I would take inglis over rizwan anyway in t20s.

Josh Inglis became the 10th Australian to score 50 on his Debut in Asia.

The last Australian player before Josh Inglis to make a century on Test debut is currently 45 years and 118 days old.

What a debut for Josh.... Superb inning...

But but but he isn’t a better keeeeeepaaaa
Inglis will ow improve massively since he plans to improve his technique to play tests.

You'll see an improved i glis coming ct, Ashes and 2026 t20 cup

Josh Inglis became the 21st Australian batter to score a hundred on Test match debut Inglis' ton came off only 90 deliveries in 1st Test against Sri Lanka - the 2nd fastest for a player on debut.

The dumbest thing I hear from people here is Rizwan>>Carey and that Rizwan would play for Australia if he was one of them.

Not just that but when Van Goh said Rizwan would open with Travis head 🤣🤣

Sir Van Gough thinks Australia will overlook their 170sr nuclear batters to give who the opening spot with Head?????
It's stupid cause this is the same country that kicked Steve smith out of their team and simply told him that he isn't good enough for t20.

And Smith even agreed. Had this been a pakiatani, we'd have 10 interviews on tv talking about i justice.

Had this been rizwan, Hell would have broken loose cause he would never let this go.

What’s even more shocking to think that a batsman like Rizwan would have made it through their system from juniors to senior level as a batter :ROFLMAO:

Brad haddin and wade would have ensured he wouldn't make a debut from 2015 to 2021.

Afterwards inglis and Carey would have kept him out to this date

An excellent fifty from Josh Inglis - just 41 balls against England in group stage encounter of ICC Champions Trophy 2025

What a way to score your first ODI century!

Josh Inglis, take a bow!

A stunning century off just 77 balls under immense pressure for Australia!

English-born Inglis reflects on the poetry and enormity of his maiden ODI ton

Keeper-batter Josh Inglis is downplaying the magnitude of his first ODI century coming against his birth-nation, after helping Australia complete a history-making Champions Trophy win.

Josh Inglis spent nearly 15 years growing up in Leeds, England. But the 29-year-old just played a pivotal role in helping Australia beat their fierce cricketing rival.

With his parents and brother Joe, the Inglis family emigrated to Western Australia in 2010 not long before his 15th birthday, having represented Yorkshire's junior cricket sides.

Inglis’ rise to international acclaim was a slow burn, making his national team debut in 2022 as a 26-year-old, getting a taste in both white ball formats that year.

And of course it was only very recently, in Sri Lanka earlier in 2025, where he not only made his Test debut but scored a ton in his maiden innings – compiling a handy 102 from just 94 balls in Galle.

Well, the runs keep coming for the Leeds product, collecting two maiden tons in two formats in the space of one month.

This latest knock, against England of all teams, assisted Australia in picking up a history-making Champions Trophy win. The Aussies’ 356/5 is the highest ever successful chase in an ICC tournament.

He came to the crease with Australia at 122/3 in the 20th over and saw them home, scoring an unbeaten 120* off 86 deliveries, deservedly earning Player of the Match honours.

Asked post-game whether he believes it’s the best knock of his career so far, Inglis confirmed that it ‘maybe’ could be, but he’ll need more time to properly process.

“Under the circumstances, I think, in an ICC event, you obviously want to have an impact and you want to help your team win a game,” he said. “So, maybe (his best innings so far). I’ll reflect on that in the future.”

As an English kid that was blossoming into a talented cricketer, Inglis of course grew up supporting the Three Lions. But unsurprisingly, not anymore.

“Those days (supporting England) are long gone,” he added, sporting a cheeky grin.

“I think it’s really special (scoring a maiden ODI century). It doesn’t matter who it’s against, like I said before it’s a really tight tournament … you’ve got to be right on it from the first game, so I think that’s probably the most pleasing thing, to get a win on the board in game one.”

Australia seal historic chase:

Inglis also confirmed he had already received some congratulatory messages from gracious UK-based relatives.

“Yeah, I’ve had a few (text messages from English relatives) already, so that’s pretty nice.”

Australia’s next-up assignment is against another familiar foe in South Africa, who also got off to a winning Champions Trophy start. A win for either of these sides in Rawalpindi on Tuesday will all but confirm tournament progression.

The other Group B encounter coming up sees England take on Afghanistan, which becomes a must-win for both nations, coming off first-up defeats. They play in Lahore on Wednesday, February 26.

I've said this time and time again, once you get a passport and are acknowledged as a citizen then you have no right to whine about your og country.

This is why i respect, Usman Khawaja and inglis, They have fully embraced their aussie culture.

If Pakistani's or other foreigners have an issue, then kindly become dual citizens. Inglis showed no remorse to his og homeland, He crushed it and leaved it in the dust.

It's england's fault for discarding such a talent and it came back to haunt them. In the same way imran tahir came back to haunt Pakistan.

Nothing player. England did well to discard him notwithstanding the century he scored vs them in the CT. He wouldn't get into the England team for sure.

Ok player in LOIs but doesn’t belong in test cricket. After Gilchrist Australia hasn’t produced a really world class wk batsman.

England dont use buttler in tests although he is much better than inglis and aus have given him no 4 as replacement of goat. Surely aus are at their lowest stocks when it comes to batting talent.

Green at 3 is not half a batsman azhar ali was.

Azhar Ali was a great batsmen though? Idk why people mock him?

He was better then every single test batter currently playing for pakistan atm.

He has an amazing record vs Aus in aus and this was achieved when aus trio were in their primes and much better then they are now as they are ageing.

His record in NZ while poor is still slightly better then YK's record. He was also the 2nd best batter in the squad after YK for UAE? His record in pakistan is decent for a no 3 as it was achieved way before dustbowls and ramiz road pitches came into play. They were the same pitches that sachin played on and azhar has a better record despite batting at no 3 and not 4.

England, Windies and SA are poor as he was a virtual tail ender in these conditons but his overall record is solid. Lots of people for sone reason use azhar ali as a crappie metric but he's a solid test cricketer.

Yes hes not a goat, or a modern great or noteworthy in the legends territory but hes a good batsmen.

I remember when I first came onto the forumn, people were making fun of me since I claimed Azhar Ali is 100x superior to Imam ul Haq In any format. Doesn't matter if its test, Odi or t20 and many including Mamoon were claiming that azhar isnt fit to lace Imam's shoelaces in odi's.

Lol did that end up failing 🤣🤣.

One outlier innings for Imam in england and all other innings playing against some of the worst bowling line ups led people to conclude that he's > Azhar Ali in odi. Massive LOL.

For me azhar is best pakistani test batsman after younis in this era. I just pointed out leave alone goats of the game like ponting etc who batted at 3. Green isnt half a batsman compared too azhar ali. Green at best is a no 6 7 batsman
