I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt, guys want to give their fans a game and are ready to to whatever it takes!

Credit to ground staff for thinking out of the box but it does make you think that BCCI is the richest board in the world and surely there must be modern means to get the pitch dry...

How can a hair drier dry a pitch? Innovative but not practical.

BCCI will not spare this. The local board has blown (no pun intended) away this opportunity.

Why not use a heater?

I was told me that the heater will not be able to give focused heat and other parts of the pitch may become affected.

Why, what will happen to them?

They used a freakin iron to dry a cricket pitch. Where's the money for a new set of covers lol

I didn't see the action, or lack of action today.

Did the covers not do the job?

When i repaired my ipad i used heat gun to clean the glue. Heat gun goes over 1200 dgrees. Hair dryer heat is negligible. It is meant for hair. Whenever our carpet gets wet we use powerful fan. Nothing is better than sun.

This keeps getting funnier and funnier oh my lord this is crazy a straight vacuum than a pink cheap low quality hair dryer which is probably some ground staffs wives as well by the looks of it and than an iron these mans brought an istari to dry out a damped 22 yard pitch this is just jokes

The water seeped in while removing the covers. A blunder by the groundsmen that resulted in abandonment.

These are inexperienced groundsman according to reports. New staffs have come in who lacked the required knowledge.

Probably they made desperate attempts to get it going as they realized their folly of allowing water to seep through. As Gauti said he has never seen at any level. This is a situation they were unprepared for. If it were outfield they wouldn't do this much. Once the pitch gets deeply wet then it is challenging to get it dried quickly. Ideally they should have called off as soon as they saw the patch on the 22 yard strip.

Poor excuse and poor planning then.

This was an international match, not an over 50s match in the local park.

I remeber in 1996 world cup, BCCI kept complaining to ICC about PCB's lack of means to dry the ground after rain which led to a game called off. After this, the PPP govt was approached with a solution and they came up in using helicopter to remove excess water from the outfield :D...unbelievably it was effective.

Can you provide link for India’s complaints , helicopter was used in final i think and before that in feb of that year same thing was done in Patna India already.. just letting you know..for Kenya vs Zim

That pic will be a meme for a long time..& I don’t think anyone will ever come up with a better (cringe) way of trying to dry a pitch FOR an international match

Don't think I will spend time finding links from 1996. You can do so at your own time. I remember vividly seeing a news like that and it was during the league stage, not final. My whole point was that sometimes unconventional methods are effective.

While the groundsmen may have made an honest mistake - blame must be placed - as this is an internationally televised cricket match and it simply is not a good look at all for the BCCI.

The ground staff from the old Guwahati stadium were not transferred here?

Not sure about ground stuff but according to news, the officials were new. They will be held more responsible as the groundsman will be under them.

It was incompetence and should be punished.

Mistake? This is a blunder.

The ground was ready by 8.30 to start the game. If not for those patches.

Money lost. Fans troubled and loss of face for this farcial act.

India the Supa Powa in 2020 :vk2

Seriously though what is BCCI doing with all its money
