[PICTURES] Ross Taylor reverse sweeps using the back of his bat

The pictures below are from Ross Taylor's innings vs Australia today. They show him performing a reverse sweep, but instead of twisting the bat face around, he does not change his grip and simply paddles the ball towards third man using the back of his bat. I always thought this was not allowed, but clearly it isn't. Even then, I can't remember ever seeing this recently in an international match. Thoughts?

not a wise shot..

see the back isnt flat, it could easily it any part and go up in the air
 
I remember David Warner once used a double sided bat, the ridge was flattened out to play shots like this

Just landed short of third man actually, they just scrambled through for a single.
