Arshad Iqbal to Kamunhukamwe, no run, oh dear! This looks nasty as Kamunhukamwe is hit flush on the helmet by this short delivery from Iqbal as he went for the pull. Shook him up and the Pakistanis instantly rush towards him and check his condition. Of course, he's rattled but Kamunhukamwe is still on his feet which is a good sign. Some fielders pat his back and encourage him while the physio comes on to monitor and carry out the Concussion Test. The first layer of the protection gear was whipped onto the floor as soon as it struck him. Kamu wraps up all the essential steps and it's time to refocus..

And his maiden wicket - looked like getting one from time he started bowling

Its not surprising to see Arshad Iqbal being more accurate than quite a few other young Pak pacers around. Any one who have seen him over the years kind of knew that.

There is a need of change of the concept in Pak cricket that more speed means better bowler especially when we are comparing bowlers that are all 135 kph plus. Arshad Iqbal can go above 140kph on effort balls and might not be as quick as Musa and few others but, he has better basics when it comes to fast bowling lines and lenghts as of now.

In modern day cricket where every player prepares against bowling machines and all other facilities against 90kph deliveries, you cant trouble the batsmen with pace alone. Accuracy is of utmost importance.

Really really really liking I am seeing here.

Gosh if he is also 20, he would become an absolute monster in 2/3 years time.

Keep him away from Aquib Javed though, lol.

This guy should've been in the test squad for Zimbabwe. It could've been the perfect opportunity for someone like him to get his debut vs a minnow.

I need him in tests....he should be earmarked for tests..

In terms of stats he was okish in the last QAE trophy (Averaged 36) but was impressive in some spells however, other youngsters like Dahani (Avg 31) and Irfanullah (Avg 20) were better. He can be handy in tests going forward, if he keeps on adapting to international cricket when he gets opportunities and bowls well in upcoming QAE trophy there is no doubt he can be knocking on the door of tests as well.

In T20s though he has been performing for 2-3 years now in domestic cricket as well as PSL so a well deserved call up.

He's always been a tight bowler. His lengths and pace suggests that he should do better in longer formats but interestingly, he has done better in T20s.

He looks good and his control in bowling is solid, hopefully continuously improves.

good start lets not get too carried away, give him some time let him get some games under his belt but he defo has the minerals to succeed.

Impressed in the PSL and today again. Early days of course, but promising start.

He should have played the first game he's been performing well in t20 format in domestic for last couple years

Very impressive - I get the feeling he is the "enforcer" type bowler who can break partnerships in Tests

Extremely unlikely given he's Pakistani and looks about 25. Most probably we're seeing him in his prime right now and his ceiling isn't much higher.

Can you tell what a 25 year looks like? .What is your criteria to determine the age of anyone?.If every Pakistani player is 10 year older than Afridi and Hafeez are in their mid 50s.Miandad must be 90 now based on your guess work.

It's quite silly to imply no age fudging takes place in Pakistan.

He's only played 6 first-class matches.

Bit early to be called an enforcer.

There is no accurate method to find chronological age.Biological age can be very different from chronological age.A 25 year old can look younger than a 20 year and vice versa. Therefore it is not true that someone who looks biologically older is also chronologically older. It all depends on genes, diet, life style, social status(rich/poor family background) etc.

He should be disappointed in not playing the third game after a more than decent debut.

I agree, his action seems repeatable and doesn't look like it strains his body too much.

He should be developed for test matches where he can make a good name for himself.

He is quite accurate, and I think he has attributes which could make him a good bowler.

He needs to play more First Class and One Day cricket to be selected for those formats, right now he's a good option for T20 cricket.

Exactly.

As I wrote above. He's only played 6 first-class matches and 7 List-A matches.

Needs to lose a bit of weight and improve his fitness and athleticism , looks a bit clumsy a tree trunk like in the field at times not the quickest movers.

But otherwise has promising attributes as a bowler.

Agreed. Did not see the point to give another game to Haris Rauf, to be honest.

Yes I definitely would have rested Rauf and played arshad especially if Hassan was going to be brought back to bowl at the death.but it's a good start and I hope he continues to perform.

@Saj Can you get an insight from someone from coaching staff of Pakistan..what are their thoughts about Arshad Iqbal? Why he was never in contention for worldcup? Even Zaman was ahead of him, who hasnt played any list A cricket.. Basically.. I want to know how does coaching staff view him and his potential?

Update on Arshad Iqbal, Zeeshan Zameer and Sufiyan Muqeem

Lahore, 10 December 2023:

Dr Javed Mughal, renowned UK-based consultant sports physiotherapist, has assessed right-arm pacers Arshad Iqbal and Zeeshan Zameer, who are grappling with complex ankle injuries, at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore. He will assess injured left-arm wrist spinner Sufiyan Muqeem tomorrow.

Dr Javed Mughal is scheduled to meet with Dr Sohail Saleem, Director of Medical and Sports Sciences PCB, on Monday to discuss and present his detailed reports. The meeting aims to devise further plans and strategies for the optimal recovery and rehabilitation of the injured bowlers.

PCB

Arshad Iqbal would be a good addition to Pakistan International Team if fit, and help finally get rid off Hasan Ali.

Hassan ali is out now in either case.. This guy Arshad Iqbal wil give tough time to many other Pak bowlers for sure.

The guy needs to get serious about his fitness. Needs to lose around a stone and a bit, run loads and get his career kick started. Time isn't on his side, he is most likely to be around 27/28 and only has 3 years or a lifetimes regret.

Injury Update:

Arshad Iqbal, the right-arm fast bowler who is recovering from an ankle injury, has been referred to for consultation at ASPETAR in Qatar, a renowned orthopedic and sports medicine hospital. After Eid Al Adha holidays, the PCB will book his appointment and make necessary travel arrangements
