What's new

[PICTURES/VIDEOS] ] Is Hasan Nawaz the second coming of Inzamam-ul-Haq or Imam-ul-Haq?

Just a gentle reminder guys that against big teams his consistency might drop. But he is still a gun player. So keep supporting him.

Hasan in recent PCB podcast told that he handles and performs really well under pressure. Pointed out his domestic innings and even the 100 in chase v New Zealand.

That's a really positive sign because handling pressure and not chocking in sports is really hard to learn if you're not natural at it.

His real test will against top teams. But so far, he looked promising in the middle order... Keep going

Exactly. It’s very refreshing what we are seeing right now and naturally fans will get excited more than usual because we longer hold the privilege to see generational talent come through often but my approach to these kind of cases has changed now.

Best way to assess the talents of a player - to determine its determine is:

1) Can he survive longer than 5 years at International level?
2) How will the player do against top sides?
3) How will he perform in the longer formats?
4) Can he win matches for us against top sides?

The best thing about him I noticed in yesterday innings that when the boundaries dried up due to good bowling from BD then Hasan showed respect to the bowl instead of going all out attack and in process losing his wicket like Shadab , Aga and Farhan , He played a calm and mature innings under pressure and against good death bowling and still batted at 200 s/r while remaining not out , this is a great sign of becoming a great batsman in future.

However his game against good quality 140k+ pace bowling is clearly a work in progress and his game against bounce and swing is pretty mediocre to be honest but with a champion mindset and nerves of steel I am pretty sure he will overcome his weaknesses.
So the great thing about him is that he can play all the shots and can also put price on his wicket which is just non existent quality for Pak batters in our history of cricket except for Inzi and Saeed and Zaheer and Majid and Yousuf no other batter in our history had these two qualities together.

No doubt he is breathe of fresh air for this poor middle order but he has some glaring deficiencies like struggle against 145+ bowler and also his off side game is very limited. Let's see how he perform against top team that will be his real test

T20 in middle overs is all about dealing with spin and he is definitely one of the best batter of spin we have ever produced.
On par with Younis , Malik and even Miandad.

He has issues vs 145+ bowlers? Oh wow. He’s a really unique Pakistani player that has those issues. None of our players are particularly good at facing that pace.

In particular the favourites of so some of those pushing that agenda.

And for those not pushing that agenda and trying to appear to be “balanced”, don’t be so scared about getting excited about a player. Enjoy it, not everything has to be doom and gloom. Allow yourself to dream.

I like what I see but the jury is still out, as it would be on any player new at this level. I hope he solves our 5 problem at the moment and then moves up to 4 as he grows. Lots to like

Things to like about him
Long levers - Takes on the ball early
High and Fast bat Swing - hits the ball hard and clean.
Good against spin.

Things he needs to work on.
No to little offside game against pace bowlers. Good teams can easily bog him down.
Vulnerable against short pitch bowling.

You are right. There are very few 145+ bowlers in world cricket anyway. It's a non issue overall.

Bro don’t you know? Babar and Rizwan treat 145kmh bowlers like spinners?! They hit them for 2-3 sixes every over!

Yup!

Also hits from a strong base.
Doesn’t have 1 or 2 release shots. Appears to hit naturally all round the ground.
Remind me a lot of the young Dhoni when he first burst on to the scene. Used to hit the ball hard and clean.

For improvement:
His game against swing/seam was also exposed
Strike rotation against pace

No shock when your picking tape ball cricket batsmen with no actual batting skills

Their are technical deficiencies in his batting, however when it comes to spinners, besides Sahibzada, there ain't a clean hitter of spinners than him.

The first 2 T20s tested him, but he bounced back well in the third. Still a long way for him to go but there is no doubt ability there. Hopefully Mike Hesson can fine tune him.

He is nervous starter against pace, he needs to hit one or two boundary against spin to get in groove then he can hit pace too. Management should avoid sending him against new ball especially

Hasan Nawaz speaking to the media after the First ODI against West Indies:
“It was my debut match, and I told myself I wanted to make it memorable by becoming the Player of the Match. When Mohammad Rizwan and I were batting together, our plan was clear—he kept saying, “It’s your debut, so you have to finish the match.” Even when he got out, he reminded me again, “You have to finish it.” That was the mindset. I also had confidence from my previous performances in the PSL, where I’ve been finishing matches regularly. I knew I could hit big at the end, and Alhamdulillah, I succeeded in doing that.”

“The rain kept interrupting the game. The ball was getting stuck and gripping a bit, so we took our time. Alhamdulillah, once the ball started coming on better, Hussain Talat and I decided that if we could take it deep, we’d be able to finish comfortably. We stuck to that plan, and it worked.”

“The plan was to build a partnership. Just like in domestic cricket, we often play on tough pitches and still manage to score runs. So we knew that if we could stitch together a partnership, we’d be able to hit big later. That’s why we played a bit slowly at the start—whether it was Hussain coming in or Rizwan already at the crease. Once we got going, the boundaries started coming, and everything fell into place.”

“There’s so much to learn from players like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Salman Ali Agha—the way they play, they’re big-match players and match-winners. Watching them play teaches you a lot. Their contribution was crucial in helping us win. When we lost a couple of early wickets, they stabilized the innings beautifully, and that laid the foundation for us to capitalize later.”

“The pitch was good. Early on, Shaheen and Naseem bowled brilliantly. Later, we did have a few misfields, and the opposition took advantage of that.”

He’s got mindset of a champion and after very long time we have a proper middle order batter who can hit out while keeping his wicket intact.

He's the next big chase master in world cricket after Kohli.

People think he's just a spin basher. No, no. He's a complete package.

Too much bro, I like hasan Nawaz but calling a debutant in odi and a few games in t20 and dubbing him as the 2nd greatest chaser on the entire planet is too much.

Travis Head chased a total down in a world cup final and followed this up with a solid 150 against england chasing that down in odi.

Head also chased it down vs Scotland in t20 granted Scotland is a minnow.

Josh Inglis played an atg innings from a collapsed position to beat England in CT.

In t20 Tim David just played a freak knock chasing a 200 total vs WI and he's done it before.

Even in pakistan, Agha and Rizwan played a solid knock chasing a total down vs SA. Rizwan played a good knock chasing a total down against Sri Lanka in the world cup 2023.

Fakhar Zaman has chased down 400(dls) by scoring 123 of 74. Whether he would have won it or not is seprate matter but that is a freak innings and allowed us to score 200 in less then 25 overs and secure a dls victory.

Babar and Haris sohail's innings in 2019 vs NZ was also better then this innings.

Hasan Nawaz is extremely talented and after a long long time we have found a serious gem of a talent but lets hold our horses on automatically rating him as the 2nd best.

Their dozens and dozens of players out their that are better chasers then him atm.

The usual clowns moaning about batting positions again. He is ideal for 6.

Babar
Rizwan
Agha
H. Nawaz

This is good.

I think these youngsters can do the job babr riz do at 70 Sr but at 100 SR, i will take them over rizbar. When team posts 350 it will be hard to win with rizbar, and babar rizwan are not any better against spin than these youngsters.

Because that's what Pakistan needs. The reality of the situation is that he's much better than all in their positions baring Babar at 3 and Saim as Opener.
Only Pakistan fans are obsessed with forcing everyone they like in the top 3/4. He is perfectly fine for 6 because he has good power game.

You need power game from openers to number 7, things have changed now. At best you can have one anchor in lineup

Pakistan’s ODI team is good. I really like the look of the team that played yesterday. If you add Fakhar to this team instead of Shafique, it’s one of the top ODI sides in the world.

Pakistan are, at the very least, finally trying to find alternatives to Riz not named Mohammed Haris. The Shaheens playing the Top End T20s have WKs such as Khwaja Nafay (who’s a good shout for ODIs) and Ghazi Ghouri (who’s probably the best natural keeper after Riz, so may be used in the test squad).

Thus, let alone making a comeback in T20s, I think the selection committee is clearly indicating to Riz that he needs to perform, or there are alternatives being readied.

I feel that Babar is a separate case who’s ODI position is currently safe, but he NEEDs to start finishing games and committing to keep his s/r high.

They’re a couple of effective bowlers short (across all formats) of being ‘good’.

However, they’re (FINALLY) beginning to develop a reliable middle order with Hassan Nawaz and Agha Salman. Adding a third name to that will go a long way in making them consistently competitive.

Haider Ali was supposed to be that third name but alas. There’s still hope that Maaz Sadaqat can become that third middle order lynchpin in the long run.

He's at 6 because none other has the power game. He's a team player. He knows that he has ability to bat anywhere in the XI and he has shown that in his domestic as well as International career.

No we are not, we will get beat by better teams. Our fifth bowler is still either Salman Agha or Khushdil Shah, which upsets the balance.

There is nothing wrong in batting at 6 and he is not doing any “ehsaan” on Pakistan cricket by agreeing to bat there.

Also, batting at 6 doesn’t mean you are a team player. It’s a perfectly fine position to bat at and it’s a very important position in ODI cricket.

I thought the same thing before the Champions Trophy. And then the Champions Trophy happened.

Do you think things could have been different had included Sufiyan Moqim in the squad and if they had Saim and Fakhar?

How many times has pakistan conceded 350 or chased 350 ?

Yes I believe so. I think Pakistan got terribly unlucky in the CT, it was just not meant to be.

Losing both Fakhar and Saim dented Pakistan big time. The replacements were rusty and it got overwhelming in a fast paced tournament like the CT where one defeat and you are on the ropes. Pakistan didn’t have enough time to react.

India would probably have won still, but Pakistan could have been a finalist.

For now, let him bat at number 6. This is the most suitable position for him, as he won’t have to face too many overs and can play his natural game. Additionally, since he struggles against pace bowlers early on, batting at number 6 means he’ll face an older ball, which will help him settle in, even against pace

In ODIs, he is gonna get that number more often and tbh, it looks like Hasan also likes middle order so far, so no need to do shenanigans and change his batting number every game. Send him accordingly.

Yeah they got terribly unlucky by losing 3 games in a row and against NZ at home repeating the same mistakes 🤡
Yeah the only team that got terribly unlucky was the modern and aggressive Pakistan T20 team in Bangladesh.

But but but give us flat pitches saar so that we can show modern intent and aggression :sadbye

The team under Babar and Rizwan’s control be like:

“Please sarr, Roads sarr

B/C teams sarr,

Sorry sarr, still 10 runs short sarr

120 sr sarr, but 50 sarr!”
