Nahid Rana (born 2 October 2002) is a Bangladeshi cricketer, who is a right-arm fast bowler. He plays for the Rajshahi Division cricket team in domestic cricket. Nahid made his first-class debut on 31 October 2021, for Rajshahi Division in the 2021–22 National Cricket League.

On 31 October 2022, he claimed his maiden five-wicket haul in first-class cricket, against Barishal Division in the 2022–23 National Cricket League. He was the second highest-wicket taker in the tournament, picking up 32 wickets.

In January 2023, he was selected to play for Khulna Tigers in the 2022–23 Bangladesh Premier League. He made his Twenty20 debut on 24 January 2023, for Khulna Tigers in that tournament. In his debut match, he took 1 wicket conceding 20 runs from 4 overs, and grabbed everyone's attention by constantly bowling around 140-148 km/h.

He made his List A debut on 21 March 2023, for Shinepukur Cricket Club in the 2022–23 Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League.

In September 2023, he was named in Bangladesh's squad for the 2023 Asian Games. In March 2024, he earned his maiden call-up to the Bangladesh's Test squad for their series against Sri Lanka. He made his Test debut for Bangladesh on 22 March 2024, against Sri Lanka.

His real test will be against India in the upcoming series.

He’s raw but height and pace make him a good prospect. Will be one to keep an eye out for

Great to see. Shows all our lazy bowlers that you can actually bend your back in tests without the fear of falling apart.

Not the coming series. He is still raw, will be wacked all over the park by indian batters. If he hones his skills and turns out to be a better bowler than we can talk about tests

Sheer pace and struggling Babar Azam, Nahid Rana is consistently bowling at 140+ kph, no wonder he got the prized wicket of Babar Azam, who seemed helpless in front of his line and length.

Pace like fire.

Never thought we would see an express pacer emerging from Bangladesh at a time Ian Harvey is being remembered as a pace legend in Pakistan.

Only pace will not be enough. He needs to learn the skills. Anyone know what happened to the indian bowler who cracked 157? Don't see him in indian team now a days

Could have had Rizwan for the second time but Shadman had to drop him. Hope we hire back Alan Donald, he will do wonders for Rana.

Nahid Rana (4/44) delivered a notable performance in 2nd Innings against Pakistan in 2nd Test

Good to see some pacers from BD doing well. He needs to develop some skills. If you can move ball both ways at high speed then it's hard for any batsman.

Almost all of his wickets were catches or caught behinds.

Some of the wickets happened because batters were impatient and they fished outside of off stumps.

Better opponents are unlikely to gift away wickets like this.

I feel like Nahid should attack the stumps more.

Agreed, I wouldn't pick him against India.

Don't think the Pakistani team think tank thought that Bangladeshi pacers would be more potent than the Pakistani pace attack this series.

Overall the Pakistani think tank showed complete dis respect to Bangladesh this series which was evident by the hasty declaration in the first test.

The Pakistani team psychologically never recovered from the first test loss.

Bangladesh has bossed Pakistan on all fronts this series ie pace bowling, batting, lower order resistance, spin bowling, captaincy.

This is called attacking the fourth/fifth stump , putting the ball in such a line that the batsman will be indecisive about playing the shot or defending.

All credit goes to Nahid for the wickets. Some of those wickets also fell because the Pakistan batsman couldn't time the ball properly due to the pace and bounce.

Nothing wrong in testing batsmen on 4th stump.

I dislike it when India has fast bowlers.

But Bangladeshi fast bowlers fills me with pride. I hope the lad has a good career.

Entirely optional but I recommend he grows his hair out, styles it with brylcreem or mustard oil and unbuttons his top three buttons. Perhaps chains too

Fastest ball was 152 kph to Shan Masood in the first innings.

It was a bit one-dimensional. He needs more control over line and length.

But, he is new. Hopefully he will improve further.

Nahid Rana is a genuine talent and can help Bangladesh finish competition in the tier 3 and become the leader in that group. I think they’re going to dominate Pakistan, Sri Lanka type teams for a while now.

Bangladesh fast bowling coach Andre Adams while speaking to a sports media outlet:

"He [Rana] is pretty well-grounded. He is not someone who gets excited by the accolades, not from my experience with him. He is always trying to get better and his drive is to get better and he likes bowling well, and he bowled really well."

"When you are fast and got the bouncer you've got to use it when you can. The good thing with Nahid Rana is his pace doesn't really drop and whenever he bowls he bowls fast and that's pretty cool."

"If you look at the first Test [against Pakistan] he wasn't as accurate and learning how to be more accurate. He only played three Test matches and you can't expect him to bowl like Glenn McGrath after three Test matches but what we do like to see is his improvement."

Read somewhere on social media that he hit 151 kph against Afghanistan.

If so, this is a big break through for BD. An express fast bowler who is tall. Exciting times ahead for BD.

Yes. He is quite pacy. Rare to find a genuinely pacy bowler from Bangladesh.

Hopefully he will remain injury-free.

Harshit Rana’s pace is all IPL hype. This Bangladeshi Rana is the real deal. Express fast.

Nahid Rana not only got a 5-fer but also injured Kemar Roach with his hostile bowling.

Kemar is unable to bowl now and Windies are a bowler short. Wishing Kemar a swift recovery (he is a nice guy).

Bangladesh pace sensation receives maiden call-up for West Indies T20I series

Nahid Rana, who had been an exciting feature of Bangladesh’s Test win in Pakistan back in September, is poised to make his debut in the shortest format.

22-year-old fast bowler Nahid Rana has been added to the Bangladesh squad for the upcoming three T20I series against the West Indies.

The pacer, who has played six Tests and three ODIs for the senior team, has been added to the T20I squad for the first time.

Rana was an integral member of the Test squad that registered a historic 2-0 series sweep in Pakistan and has 20 wickets to his name in the longest format. He also boasts another four scalps in a short ODI career.

Bangladesh are currently in the midst of an all-format tour of West Indies. Having levelled the two-Test series 1-1, the visitors were handed a 3-0 drubbing in the ODIs. The T20I series will kickstart on Monday, December 16 in St Vincent.

Shaun Tait is currently the head coach of Chittagong Kings (one of the BPL teams). Here was what Shaun Tait had to say about Nahid Rana:

Tait: Nahid is a rare talent for Bangladesh

Chittagong Kings’ head coach Shaun Tait was asked about the growing reputation of Bangladesh’s young sensation and Rangpur Riders’ pacer Nahid Rana during a press conference on the opening day of the Bangladesh Premier League's training.

Though they represent rival teams on the field, their shared identity as fast bowlers—one a former speedster and the other a rising talent—creates an intriguing connection.

Nahid made his international debut in a Test match against Sri Lanka in March this year. The right-arm pacer has since impressed on various pitches, including those in Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, UAE, and the West Indies, consistently catching the eye with his pace and accuracy.

In his latest performance during the West Indies series, Nahid took five wickets in Jamaica, playing a key role in Bangladesh’s victory. His fiery spells have drawn praise from cricketing legends such as Ian Bishop, Samuel Badree, Sir Curtly Ambrose, and Courtney Walsh.

Shaun Tait, who first noticed Nahid’s bowling during Bangladesh’s tour of Pakistan, was particularly impressed.

“I first saw him bowl on television during the Pakistan Test series. He’s tall, strong, and has raw pace. It’s exciting for Bangladesh cricket, especially for their fast-bowling department, which has seen remarkable growth in recent years,” Tait said.

“Nahid, with his ability to bowl at 150 km/h, is a rare talent. Bangladesh must take good care of him, as he has the potential to achieve great things for the team,” Tait added.

He further lauded Bangladesh’s evolving pace attack, citing players like Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Ebadot Hossain, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, and Hasan Mahmud, who have transformed the team’s bowling dynamics.

However, Tait also emphasized the importance of managing fast bowlers’ fitness, noting that injuries are a significant threat to their careers.

“The people around Nahid must make the right decisions to ensure his longevity in cricket. He also needs to be proactive about his own fitness and career choices,” Tait advised.

Nahid Rana has been picked by Peshawar Zalmi in the Gold category in the PSL Draft 2025 after his spectacular performance against Pakistan last summer.

Bangladesh’s newest pace star Nahid Rana ready to build on eye-catching start to international career

Nahid Rana is used to life in the fast lane.

As a pace bowler capable of topping 150km/h, and a biker in his down time, the 22-year-old seamer has generated plenty of attention over the last year.

He has clocked speeds never previously reached by Bangladeshi bowlers and earned the moniker of his country’s fastest-ever bowler.

It is a rise made all the more impressive by the fact Nahid did not pick up a hard cricket ball until his late teens, having grown up playing taped tennis ball cricket in Rajshahi.

But having established himself in the Tigers squad, he is now ready for his first taste of an ICC global event at the upcoming Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 – a prospect he is relishing.

“The opportunity to play against the best cricketers in the world is the highest form of inspiration,” he said.

“I am enjoying every moment of international cricket. Things have happened very fast but I’m grateful for everything.

“It is never easy to adapt to international cricket but I was lucky in the sense that I got to play a good number of first-class matches before my debut.

“I feel that is the best thing that could have happened as you get exposed to all sorts of different situations and conditions. But international cricket is a totally different level altogether.

“I learned every day on and off the field, from fitness to how to how to take care of the body, the diet, understanding and executing plans, learning from the coaches and the more experienced players.

“The team expected me to bowl fast and used me as an attacking option. I tried to repay the faith by sticking to my strengths and staying humble.”

Nahid made his Test debut against Sri Lanka in March 2024 and immediately caught the eye, taking three wickets in the visitors’ first innings.

He built on those performances in Pakistan later in the year, notably dismissing Babar Azam, Shan Masood and Saud Shakeel in the space of three consecutive overs in Rawalpindi to help his side to a 2-0 series win.

The Tigers are back in the same destination for their Group A clashes against the hosts and New Zealand, with Nahid hoping to pick up where he left off.

“We played on pitches that were very good for batting and the margins for the fast bowlers were less,” he said.

“Despite that, we made the right adjustments and bowled exceptionally as a fast bowling group.

“The pitches could be even better for the Champions Trophy and we have to be focused on proper execution of our plans.”

Nahid has leaned on his more experienced compatriots, such as Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam and Hasan Mahmud, for guidance as he makes his way in the international scene.

It is Nahid’s raw pace which makes him stand out among his fellow countrymen, with his skills honed on the streets of the Chapainawabganj district, which borders India.

“The place is more famous for mangoes rather than cricket, or any sport for that matter,” he said.

“I was mainly playing taped tennis ball cricket and could feel I was way quicker than those around me. I could extract more natural bounce because of my height.

“Alamgir Kabir, who is a divisional coach of Rajshahi under the Bangladesh Cricket Board and a former national pacer, encouraged me to transfer that natural ability to bowling with a cricket ball.

“We worked on my run up and a few other technicalities and thankfully I could adapt quickly. High pace is a rarity and the coaches and selectors saw something different in me.”

A bright future appears to lie ahead but Nahid is keeping his feet on the ground and, though his free time is more limited than it once was, he has plenty to keep him occupied away from the cricket field.

“Nowadays, any time off from cricket is spent catching up with friends and family,” he said.

“I used to catch fish and angling was a favourite pastime, and I love riding my motorbike when I’m home in Chapainawabganj.

“I love cats and we have some at home but I hardly get the time to visit these days because the cricket calendar is so hectic.”

Nahid will be one of the quicker bowlers in the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy, a list also including the likes of Jofra Archer and Kagiso Rabada, but he admits he is not setting himself targets for speeds he could reach in the future.

“I would rather concentrate on getting into the right rhythm and my release,” he said.

“I have learnt that looking after your body and staying fit is the key to bowling quick. If I feel good, then I know that the pace would be right.

“But then again, when you see or hear that the pace is around 150kph, that’s a nice feeling.”

I am surprised that Bangladesh never picked him to play against India... he could have surely tested the Indian batters with his raw pace.

Yes, I see no reason why he didnt play instead of Tanzim, the latter is read well by Indian batsmen and is good mainly on pitches which suit the ball skidding on to the batsman, not pitches like Dubai's

He got thrashed in Test matches. They devoured Archer, Mark wood who are way faster more potent than Rana. Your worst option against India is raw pace. Spin is what they missed.

Waqar Younis, while speaking on a show on a local sports channel:

"He combined pace and bounce brilliantly. That delivery to Williamson was nearly unplayable."

He further praised Bangladesh's overall pace attack, saying, "The Bangladeshi pacers bowled superbly. As Wasim Bhai mentioned, Taskin Ahmed used his experience well, understanding where to bowl and when."

Dale Steyn also praised him while talking to a sports media outlet:

"Great pace. You can see that over where he got Kane Williamson out. Looked like he kind of rattled him a little bit. No short balls, but it still seemed to unsettle him. That’s an uncharacteristic shot from Kane—to be freely playing outside. Normally, in the early stages of his innings, when he’s coming out, he’ll kind of hit that ball on its head and run it down to third man. But in this case, you kind of feel like the pace was just there, and maybe he just wanted to throw his hands at it a little bit. So, he’s got something about him, does Nahid Rana. Anybody who bowls close to 150 km/h is definitely going to test guys."

Wahab Riaz, while speaking to broadcasters during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025:

"I think he is a very talented boy. He was very impressive at that time. It was very exciting to see how fast he bowled."

"I wish him all the very best and hope he continues to do well for Bangladesh."
