New Zealand's next big cricket prospect is setting records.

19-year-old Glenn Phillips has been tabbed by many as the Black Caps opener of the future, and he has shown his destructive power by smoking six sixes in an over in English cricket.

Playing for the Marylebone Cricket Club against the Duke of Norfolk XI last weekend, Phillips completed the remarkable 36-run over feat as part of blasting 201 from 123 balls.

His 201 made a stunning 67% of his side's 299/5 declared, while also becoming the first player to hit 36 in an over on the historic Arundel ground, where cricket has been played since 1895.

Phillips has been highly rated for a few years now, dominating the age-group, NZ Under 19 and A levels before showing his talent for Auckland last year - making 101 from 96 balls opening the innings against Otago.

He should get more opportunities to show his talent across all forms this summer.

This guy plays for my local club.
Aman
He plays for HPCC.

Saw this guy in the U19 world cup, looked very impressive. Just like we have a fab 4 of top order batsmen in the world right now in Kane, Kohli, Smith and Root, in future we might see a trinity of dashing openers in Pope, Pant and Philips.

I wonder what has NZ done in recent decade to their cricket infrastructure? Seem to be producing a lot of world beaters these days..

Pakistani Mode ON get him to national team ASAP, he is opener we need Pakistani Mode Off

is this the guy? seems another Sehwag type player with minimum foot movement (if there was any in above clip)

Another exciting prospect from NZ, really would like to see him opening with Guptill.

He's a keeper, he should be a straight swap for Ronchi next summer. Even if he fails, he'd be a massive step up from Ronchi.

So is he going to be the replacement of BMac in odis?

They built a lot of small heartin shaped stadiums. Suleiman

Very good (104) innings for NZ when it mattered - taken the game away from Sri Lanka

Best innings of the tournament so far imo.

Hopefully the bowlers can back it up.

Hell of a player. Doesn’t get talked about enough.

Ideal replacement for Taylor, looks set to have a top career in Limited Overs.

He is better than Ross Taylor in t20is. Ross Taylor was very poor t20s.

He is so lucky in this tournament.
SL fielders dropped 2 Dolly catches and he scored 100.

Today Moeen dropped a dolly again and he scored.

Technique very similar to Aaron Finch

Great Player btw.

Phil Allen
Harry Brook
Glen Phillips
Cameron Green
Dewald Brevis
Stubbs

Future stars from SENA

I hope Brook, Brevis and Green focus on Test cricket as well. They can be world class in the long format too.

Taking the game away from Pakistan! What a player.

One of a number who can take the game away and he has. Unlikely what happens in WC20 happens all the time when all big guns fail.

Quality, controlled, modern knock which Pakistan are devoid of

Monster bat

Pakistan were very lucky NZ didn’t play him in the Test series instead of Nichols

He would have done a Harry Brook on them

Glenn Philips should bat at 6..he is a dangerous player and a match winner for any team at that spot. He is basically the Buttler, Miller, Maxwell, Pandya sort of guy for New Zealand.

lol, including Pandya with those players!

Pandya is nowhere near those batsmen.

I thought we were discussing batting abilities of those players.

I wasn't discussing anything with anyone, just posting an opinion on Glenn Philips.

As far as Pandya, his striking ability is not as good as these guys. He is a one dimensional power hitter who seems to have become a classical mould Indian style batsman. But his batting role and position is similar to the guys I mentioned. I think given India's top order fragility these days, he should look to become a 38-39 averaging batsman maintaining strike rate around 110.

How far we go in the WC will depend on our bowlers, Phillips and Bracewell.

He's an absolute freak athlete.

Great power, the fastest runner between wickets in the world (can't think of anyone who looks anywhere as quick as him) and super man in the field.

Pakistan dearly miss these type of players who can change the tempo in last 7-8 overs Alas!

Glenn Phillips came to the party with the ball against Bangladesh in the first innings of 1st test match. He picked up 4 wickets for 53 runs in 16 overs on day 1 as Bangladesh is 310/9 at stumps.

Glenn Phillips could become a strong all rounder if he gets more chances in future. I see a promising prospect for him unless he himself ruins his career like erstwhile young cricketing talents.

He is a part-time bowler.

New Zealand's Maxwell. Can bat aggressively and bowls a few overs here and there.

Good find.

Glenn becomes the first batsman to score a fifty on this difficult surface. He is taking the attack on Bangladesh bowling and is currently batting at 74 runs off 60 balls. Strike Rate of 123.3 superb stuff from him.

Glen Phillips is the only batter to make more than 20 in both innings of the 2nd test against Bangladesh. He also took 3 wickets in the match. Surely the man of the match.

he played a match winning 40*, at 69/6, NZ looked like they could lose.

Phillips reveals winning mantra that helped clinch the Mirpur Test

After losing the first Test in Sylhet by 150 runs, New Zealand fought back to take the Mirpur Test by four wickets. Having been set a target of 137, the tourists were in dire straits at 69/6 but Phillips effected a turnaround.

Phillips (40*), who had already played a crucial knock of 87 in the first innings and picked three important wickets, joined forces with Mitchell Santner (35*) to stitch together a match-winning 70-run stand. The duo overcame the guile and turn of Bangladesh spinners and took the attack to the opposition.

Phillips revealed that he stuck to the plan that had worked for him in the first innings of the Test.

“I think at the end of the day, I was sticking to my plan. It worked in the first innings,” Phillips, who hit nine fours and four sixes during his first-innings knock, said. “We made adjustments from the first game as well, so it was sticking to that and keeping my processes calm and clear.

“I was still taking the attack to the bowlers when they missed, but at the end of the day, it was about knocking down one run at a time. Take it as deep as possible.”

He lauded the challenge presented by Bangladesh spinners and ascertained how the scoring opportunities increased as the innings progressed.

“Bangladesh bowlers were really good with the new ball. Some [balls were] skidding on, some [were] spinning. It was tough for our batters. It became a bit more predictable as the ball got older. Thankfully for us, it presented some more scoring opportunities.”

Phillips also praised his partner in the seventh-wicket stand, Santner, for his quick thinking.

“They were bowling really well at the time. It was a real blessing for us to get to tea. We had a bit of chat, [and] talked a bit about tactics. He [Santner] has got incredibly fast hands. I let him in on my game plan, about staying leg-side of the ball and using my hands and bats to play the ball.

“He thought it was a good option for him as well. The way he came out after tea and really took it to the bowlers, the way he played the offies as well, it was incredibly impressive. It took the pressure off myself.”

The 27-year-old also impressed with the ball, and was the third-highest wicket-taker in the series. He picked eight wickets at an average of 16.37. He thanked his skipper, Tim Southee, for the support.

“Timmy had the confidence to go to me despite knowing that I don't have the experience behind me, but thankfully the conditions were favourable to spinners.”

Glenn Phillips is saving the match for his team with a good 50 under pressure. This is his 10th of the T20Is.

Once again, this guy is proving his worth to the team. 50 for him now on 45 balls in the 1st Test against Australia. He is literally the one-man army atm, scoring at good rate and showing some resistance against the Aussie attack.

Playing a good solid knock atm for Colombo Strikders against the Kandy Falcons in LPL 2024 game.

Bating at 59 off 37 balls atm.

Yet another fifty for Glenn Phillips, who is batting at 58 off 31 for Colombo Strikers against Jaffna Kings. He is also dominating the LPL 2024 with a batting average of 50.75 and a strike rate of 159.84.

Beast fielder.

This catch of Virat Kohli is an absolute stunner. That ball was flying bro.

Best fielder in the world.

You have players who can cover a lot of ground, others who can run fast, some who can make direct hit, many with a rocket arm, few who can be tight in stopping boundaries and a bit who can take spectacular catches.

Glenn Phillips can do all as a fielder.

I came across an amazing edit on Instagram that's just a collection of Glenn Phillips taking one-handed stunners set to Kendrick Lamar's Hii Power.

Awesome

This guys a freak. Bringing back Jonty Rhodes era terror in batsmen’s mind.
He ain't human. Some of the stuff he does on the field is just insane. Also, just goes to show though what an impact your fitness makes on your overall game. He must have one of the best fitness regimens going around. The guy looks absolutely ripped.
