Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board, Mohsin Naqvi, made important decisions regarding quality domestic cricket. Mohsin Naqvi presided over a 3-hour long meeting in the board room of the National Cricket Academy to strengthen the domestic cricket system. In principle, Mohsin Naqvi approved the plan to promote quality domestic cricket at all levels. Tournaments will be organized continuously from club level to national level under Mohsin Naqvi's guidance. The best coaches will train new talent to improve their skills, and players will be given further opportunities based on fitness and merit.

Mohsin Naqvi aims to promote quality domestic cricket to bridge the gap with international cricket. To improve coaching quality, a master coach will be appointed to train domestic cricket coaches. The domestic contract will be revised, and players must participate in domestic cricket to join the national team. Selections will be based on performance, merit, and fitness, with no compromises.

Following Mohsin Naqvi's instructions, tournaments in all three formats will be held to promote quality domestic cricket. Emergency measures will be taken to discover new talent, investing in grassroots cricket to yield positive results. The meeting discussed recommendations and suggestions, examining domestic cricket structures in India, Australia, England, and New Zealand.

Attendees included PCB Chief Operating Officer Salman Naseer, Chief Financial Officer, Selection Committee Analyst Bilal Afzal, Directors of International Cricket, High Performance Centers, Domestic Cricket, PSL, and concerned commercial officials.

This is a great move!

Azam Khan gets out missing the line of the ball and that too straight balls.

Clearly, he needs huge amount batting practice and understanding where the ball is heading.

It is understandable missing a spinning or swinging delivery, but to miss straight deliveries is absolutely criminal.

@Rana thinks Azam is the second coming of Gilchrist

Sounds like a similar play he made with Senior Manager. Appointing Wahab over a Manager.

Also I hope he focuses on Domestic Cricket infrastructure. There were no proper coolers to get cold water to players in the last T20 domestic tournament.

When was the last time Babar or Rizwan played domestic 4 day cricket?

Rizwan was dropped from the Test side…didn’t play a single red ball game but was being carried around with the squad in SL and then Australia hoping for Sarfaraz to fail…the same Sarfaraz who toiled 3 years in red ball domestics to get his spot back in the team.

Allah is the best of planners, he is watching all of this injustice towards Sarfaraz. Pakistan cricket teams pathetic state is a testimony to the clear injustice towards deserving players

That press release is something out of North Korean state media.

Was expecting them to say after the meeting, Mohsin Naqvi went to the golf course hitting 10 consecutive hole in ones before accepting the Nobel Prize for discovering nuclear fission.

“In principle, Mohsin Naqvi approved the plan to promote quality domestic cricket at all levels.”

That is some smashing insight by Naqvi. Who would have thought that quality cricket at domestic level should be promoted.

It’s surely a first. He is the first Chairman to approve this. How can we thank him for this huge favor?

Interested to see what changes happen in the domestic system.

5 years back, Waqar Younis promised us a world class battery of pacers with Shaheen, Naseem, Hasnain set to dominate the world

Turned out to be yet another hoax.

Maybe Naqvi can churn out the next set of promising talents from Pakistan.

This man will take all the credit if Pakistan won the champion trophy. :kp
Why not ? if they win then everybody should take the credit , just like how they are being smacked around for the early exit and miserable and outdated style of play .... Winning a tournament is not easy in any sports, still got to beat the best till the final to get the hands on trophy...

let him sit at home and aaramse khana khata beta...

before there was another guy , main practice se 150 sixers marunga , funny guy who gets out the same way all the time in less than 5 balls.... so funny that these guys are being called hitters in Pakistan cricket...

Ifthikar ahmed , in Pakistan they call me finisher.... :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Feku tailunts.. last for 1 series maximum...or some kinda like the Zimbabri folks..

And when the time came in Australia tour. Sarfraz embarrassingly got bowled against Starc. He looked a retired player. Real Ugly. Thank God we had Rizwan to save some of our middle order.

Sarfraz is 37 now. We already get few Tests. Rizwan is already becoming Pakistan's best ever all format WK Batter. Sarfraz can't play in SENA. He should look into retirement very soon. No point investing in a 37 Year old who is also a liability in SENA.

Once Sarfraz retires. That will also open the doors for the likes of young Haseebullah to compete for the main WK spot against Rizwan.

Cant agree more, injustice towards deserving players... the players who have been selected by Zimbabar for the middle order in the last 5 years will show how much they avg and SR in domestic cricket..look at the names of ifthikar ahmed , asif ali, danish aziz, khusdil shah, shadab khan , faheem ashraf , imad wasim were the go to players for middle order if someone who shows glimpses of batting performance in the middle order will be benched and given the chance in SENA countries.. the amount of politics this Zimbabris do is simply outstanding....

India recently selected Shivam Dube for the WC , who was conisdered an undercooked selection for India standards and still struggling to replicate his spin-hitting spree that he did in IPL few months ago, but in reality he has played 30 inns of FC cricket and avg 50+ and 100+ T20s avg 30+ even then it took 3yrs of consecutive IPL performance to put his name in the team sheet... He is playing there only because Virat is opening, otherwise Gill or Jaiswal if open with Rohit then Virat at 3 and Dube wouldnt be selected...

Question needs to be asked is why are we not producing players with long careers with consistent performance? Looks like after 2-4 years they are cooked and fall off a cliff.

lmao, took him 5 months to realize this.
NO , all these findings come at the expense of losing to USA and being knocked out of the tournament so early lol... these are long standing issues where everyone can see, they will pick the performers for bangladesh series and then bring back the same old stuff for Eng series... if his reactive measures could last couple series then that itself a big achievement...

Babar doesn't play as a Keeper.
So Sarfaraz embarrassed himself against Starc at the age of 37 but Babar in the prime years of his life didn’t embarrass himself by not standing up and batting like a Man for his country a single time throughout the tour?

This is why you people deserve the humiliating rut Pakistan cricket finds itself in.

INTROSPECT. You have all fallen far, far away from the reality of cricket as a nation.

Pak Awaam doesn't care about domestic cricket or the players it produces. It wants players that can compete and excel in T20 cricket and ODI cricket.

Will playing Quaid E Azam trophy achieve this?

Players have already hinted to Naqvi Saab if they are downgraded and are forced to play domestic cricket, they will refuse central contracts and become free lancers.

Can Naqvi Saab resist their pressure tactics from the players and psl franchises?

Bring back PJL as well or any equivalent sustainable model which involved coaching of junior players for 6 consecutive months like they did with PJL and it did wonders for the youngsters as they all were very polished despite lacking in raw talent.

In most cases they are touring when the red ball season is happening.

I like Naqvi , he is definitely a proactive guy instead of just sitting there and doing reactive measures , first he appointed the best coaches we can get considering our reputation as PCB secondly he managed to get the best available talent in the country by poaching Usman Khan, Imad and Aamer and send the best possible talent for the world cup, it's not his fault that the talent we have is not skillful enough to compete and there is infighting between the team. Now if he is trying to get a good quality domestic cricket and is hunting for new talent , I am not seeing more proactive PCB guy in my life then him. Yes he did the blunder when he made Babar the captain and this is his only fault , otherwise he is making his income halal and not sitting in AC and doing nothing like previous chairmen of past.

He is not talking about doing major surgery which means elimination player powers and getting rid of non performing so called seniors which is again a good move. He can't suddenly produce good talent and transform our team in to worldchampions. Things take time to work out.

I understand they pick players for T20 team from the leagues. What about other formats? They were selecting from domestic right? For T20 many teams don't even care about domestic record. Tim David never played Australian domestic when he was picked.

When I laid out both Wicket Keeper's performance. You dragged Babar in.

Good out come of the meeting , the guy seems to genuinely care about Pakistan cricket and is not all talk and do nothing type guy , let’s see what he is made of in one years time.

Tournaments will be organized continuously from club level to national level under Mohsin Naqvi's guidance.
Why PCB chairman has to provide guidance on organizing domestic tournament? Is everything done in PCB by chairman only, all other employees are good for nothing?

The best coaches will train new talent to improve their skills, and players will be given further opportunities based on fitness and merit.

Mohsin Naqvi aims to promote quality domestic cricket to bridge the gap with international cricket. To improve coaching quality, a master coach will be appointed to train domestic cricket coaches. Is this even a point of discussion in a meeting in a country which is running cricket since more than 70 years? What the hell previous chairman or management were doing since so many years? Chairman is teaching his team like a school kids

So Mohsin Naqvi is giving basic school level education to his team?

Why can't they bring their own innovative ideas or thought process instead of copying others?

I heard this time in the 2nd division of department's FC tournament (President's Trophy Grade-II I believe). There were few paper matches. They were solely played on paper and never actually happened.

This apparently used to happen in the old days. Seems like it's back. If this has actually happened. It's really alarming. You can get an idea from this how corrupt people holding power are in our institutions.

The source is Bazid Khan. Take it as you will.

Emergency measures lol. No specifics shared on how they will actually execute this, because they have no clue. You need a proper plan with a long term execution strategy not emergency measures to unearth new talent.

Times have changed. This criteria of having played domestic cricket for selection no longer can be blanketed for everyone.

The ones who are already part of the international team will hardly play domestic cricket. This is not something new. That's how it's always been.

Domestic cricket is only relevant for those players who don't have access to any other level of cricket.

If you try to enforce this policy of selecting players who have played Pakistani domestic and call it non-negotiable, then you will find many players who are of decent quality to refuse domestic cricket and earn their livelihood abroad through leagues. Leagues will destroy Pakistani domestic. USA and Canada will offer PR status to guys like Kamran Ghulam, Mohammad Huraira and they would be mad to refuse it and toil in the domestics for peanuts when they can earn thousands of dollars there.

PCB should be flexible and smart in how they go about things here. This dictatorial approach is only going to push talented domestic players further away with USA and Canada ready to swoop in. There is no doubt that domestic cricket is important but PCB should keep themselves abreast of the changing times and not make domestic cricket the be and end all.

Jake Fraser McGurk didn't really come into the Australia side simply because of playing Sheffield Shield. He showcased his talent in the IL20 and Big Bash. If he keeps performing in the IPL like he did this season, Australia wouldn't keep him out of the international side just because he isn't playing the Puma Cup.

What the PCB chairman is doing here is just another round of big talk laced with cosmetic changes. Nothing will change for Pakistan cricket, in fact the downfall is already underway. Cricket will only survive, once the economy thrives. The economy isn't thriving any time soon.

“In principle, Mohsin Naqvi approved the plan to promote quality domestic cricket at all levels.”

We have been hearing for so many years yet there are zero results.

  1. There is no quality infrastructure for young kids out there to develop as batsmen and bowlers compared other part of the world.
  2. Quantity of matches played at youth level is very low to develop game awareness(Street smart)
  3. Parchi selection at youth level and flawed method of open trial
  4. NCA is Z grade level academy for Pakistan U16, U19 and Pakistan Shaheens

The result is we produce low quality domestic cricketers so no chance for this to happen

Totally disagree with you. We have badly spoilt our players in the last few years by catering to their every whim, fancy and the excessive focus of our players in T-20 cricket is now having a detrimental impact on our players. Even if the players refuse to sign central contracts with the PCB, the PCB can and should still refuse NOC's to these players to play in leagues.

The present national team players don't have any Don Bradman's playing and they are not excessively superior to the players playing in our domestic cricket. The team's results in the last 2 years is in front of everyone. There has to be wholesale changes now.

Give it 3 years and PCB will be seeking NOC's from these leagues to get players released.

Babar Azam / Rizwan / Shaheen don't need to play domestic cricket. it's not going to increase their skills. Quaid-e-Azam Trophy is needed for U-19 players and they should be the ones PCB should be devoting their time on. Forcing international players to play domestic cricket will not achieve anything. Babar is better off playing Country Cricket.

The nation's institutions are plagued by a culture of inconsistency, where decisions made are as ephemeral as writing in disappearing ink. Despite noble intentions, even the slightest pressure can prompt a dramatic shift in direction, rendering long-term stability and progress elusive. This pattern is not limited to the PCB, but also the judiciary, establishment, government; it's a pervasive issue that affects the institutions as a whole, with individuals lacking the fortitude to withstand the challenges and pains of meaningful, lasting change. This short-sightedness has become a deeply ingrained trait in Pakistani culture, making it difficult for individuals and institutions to prioritize lasting solutions over quick fixes.

It might not improve the technique of established players but it's a good environment to try new things with no pressure. Also their presence would be infinitely more valuable for U19 players rather than them only playing against average to below average domestic players.

Unfortunately the idea that you rule by fist is coming from the very top.

One of the things I always believe is that when you bring someone in with a clear mandate. You should give a clear and concise duration for their tenure and you should let that person / ideology lay out a road map.

You can only gauge their performance and hold someone truly accountable if they have served the agreed tenure.

Unfortunately this is not true with PCB chairman and any executive position in Pakistan for that matter.

This Phattu being scared from the players is the reason why Pakistan Cricket is where it is today. Player power needs to be clamped down upon and the players need to be reminded that they are not bigger then the game. Every major playing country i.e. India, Australia, South Africa, England, New Zealand makes zero compromises on their domestic cricket and the results are in front of us. Pakistani bowlers need to be made to toil on Pakistani pitches so that they can eventually learn the art of bowling long spells, putting 6 balls on the same spot and our batters also need to be familiar with Pakistani pitches, Day 1, Day 5 e.t.c.

It might not improve the technique of established players but it's a good environment to try new things with no pressure. Also their presence would be infinitely more valuable for U19 players rather than them only playing against average to below average domestic players.

It will improve the technique of established players. Playing on Day 4, 5 pitches in Pakistan against spin, reverse swing can only help our players improve their confidence, game play against spin and pace. Its all about giving respect to your domestic cricket.

If I were Naqvi, I would sing:

exactly why spend so much money on players who are unfit , low skill level and lose matches to USA , Ireland, Zimbabwe , Afghanistan... struggling to chase 120 even against Zimbabwe and struglling to put a score in excess of 150 against USA and struggling to defend a score of 180 against Ireland struggling to score more than 300 against Afghanistan and letting them win with 8 wickets in hand and 2 overs to spare... Let them go home, just let them go Amir and Imad way ....no problem...

Also slow tuktuk player who take sweet time to settle in like Misbah sand Chacha sort of players will be shown doors to find another career! Pakistan don’t need slow defensive mind players

The criticism isn't because he made Babar the captain; it's because of his connections with PLMN. I'm not well-versed in Pakistani politics, so I'm not sure about the specifics of that connection.

What he's proposed is definitely a positive step. The issues lie within grassroots cricket, which he aims to address during his six-month tenure as chairman.

The real question is why Rameez, as a former cricketer, didn't think of this. He should have known better but instead focused on setting up another league for young players.

ban psl first .. or choose players in psl only who have players atleast 30 domestic innings

An indirect and clear message to all the senior players.... let's see if it gets implemented or not.

That is some smashing insight by Naqvi. Who would have thought that quality cricket at domestic level should be promoted.

It’s surely a first. He is the first Chairman to approve this. How can we thank him for this huge favor?
They all read from the same script, year in year out, I pretty much doubt whether he actually understands what he is saying?

It just sounds like blah, blah and more blah.

No one in PCB has a clue what is actually required; I would genuinely be surprised if they can make it out of PCB headquarters to Mall Rd without catching the motorway to Sialkot.

Lol Waqar after the end of his tenure when queried on his statement commented that the quality of talent and players you can produce is dependent on the quality of your domestic structure. How can you blame me, i am not a magician. Then you should not have made a populist statement then.

The PCB is planning to introduce an additional pentangular 5-6 team 4 day, ODI and T-20 tournament where the top domestic performers in club cricket, U-19, A tours, City based and Department, National team players will play and the top performers from these pentangular tournaments are the ones who will be in a strong position for national team selection.

Which is why I'm intrigued by the what changes Naqvi can bring to the domestic system.

Waqar had promised quality Test class pace attack. But currently they can't seem to bowl to Monank and Aaron in a T20.

Lots of work to be done.

Zaka caused this by making Shaheen captain. You could tell it wasn't 100% in that camp. That clown in a just a few months destroyed everything including the world cup campaign.

I kept repeating myself here for years, never bring back Zaka. What do they do? Let him have a free run on a WC lead up :ROFLMAO:

Actually the decision to remove Babar was correct and made on merit. If you are not going to remove a captain who has habitually failed in an ICC tournament and has lost test series at home against the top teams for 4-5 years, then when will you?

Regardless of whether the decision to appoint Shaheen as captain was correct or not, the fact is the PCB appointed him keeping the T-20 WC in mind and had made a decision, it was riddiculous on Naqvi's part to immediately reverse the decision and to remove Shaheen after one series without any consultation or discussion with him and to appoint the ex captain as captain without any consideration for the optics. This decision alone clearly rattled the dressing room, hurt Shaheen's ego, self respect, pride and hurt Babar's moral standing in the team when Babar should have backed Shaheen. The dressing room afterwards was divided, filled with mistrust which is the last thing a team which is severely short of talent, skill needs going into a big tournament.

Mohsin Naqvi and the likes of Yousaf, Wahab Riaz, Abdul Razzaq, Asad Shafiq are to be blamed because they recommended reappointing Babar as captain and Naqvi for blindly accepting their recommendation.

Should have done it after the WC. Shaheen is not the right fit for captain anyway and Zaka should have known this.

Who is advising Naqvi on what changes need to be implemented? As far as I can tell it’s wahab and co, which means nothing substantial is going to happen other then cosmetic changes and big statements.

Naqvi said that domestic will be the only merit for selection so Amir and Imad will already be thinking about their retirement I guess because they were not interested in domestic cricket.

It is easier said than done. Naqvi should implement what he said. No more PSL hacks. Usman should also play a whole domestic season before coming back in the team.

Believe me its an eye-washer, the players who perform in that tournament will not be given the chance, if at all given chance in the Squad , Babar & Co will make them warm the bench... This is not new just coming from Babar, he learned this from his senior players and previous captains to save their buddies and keep them close around dont let a newbie spoil the party...

Babar has some problem to play Abrar Ahmed , dont know why? it was very clear the only spinner Pak got could have made a lot of difference in WT20 but they kept going with Shadab and in the 50 CWC it was suggested by the senior cricketers especially Misbah to take Abrar Ahmed as the spin department is weak , but again Babar saved Shadab by saying no and took Usama in the reserves who ended playing the whole tournament after Shadabs poor show and sitting out on injury forecfully......

If still Wahab then expect nothing...he is the one who brough Amir and Imad back, kept Azam khan , threw Haris and Shan Masood away... no chance to abrar and then threw Usama out..

Gary Kirsten in his report complained about Babar and his stubborn selections, he wanted Abrar to play against USA, Canada and Ireland but Babar over ruled him every time.

now babar will be ruled out of the team

Misbah during his tenure made it mandatory to have fitness tests every 2 weeks to ensure players were on track and not cheating on their diets, training plans.

this is only good thing he did but then again he failed to produce a team in his tenure just like during his captaincy tenure which forced him to eat his fitness logic and push himself on bringing back Sharjeel...

When Mickey left the white ball team was in good shape and (Haider Ali + Abdullah Shafiq ) forming well , MIsbah took them in the squad but didnt give proper chance and Haider Ali was spoiled to core as a slogger... Abdullah Shafiq has to wait till 2023 CWC to get his mainstay chances as an opener...

Babar and his stubborn selections , this is the first big reason he shouldnt be captain in any format... He got this stubborness from Misbah especially who resisted changes forever, never give chances to the youngsters... He killed the careers of many youngsters like Umar Amin, Hammad Azam , Umar Akmal, Haris Sohail , Fawad Alam, Yasir Shah etc.. One of worst captains to play under and expect playre development and consistent chances...He gave chances to those who buy his own tuk tuk style of play..and that is why he made Azhar ali the captain twice...
