Signs are that Naseem will debut ahead of MUsa, which is good.

But this 'unpredictability' tag being used by the coach is not on. It's fine if fans use it but not anyone who is part of the team or management. It's basically saying we aren't that good, we might miraculously win.

Carey to lead strong Australia A squad against Pakistan.

The National Selection Panel (NSP) has announced the following Australia A XI to play Pakistan in a three-day tour match at Perth Stadium from Monday, November 11:

Australia A XI:

Alex Carey (c) (South Australia)
Marcus Harris (Victoria)
Joe Burns (Queensland)
Usman Khawaja (vc) (Queensland)
Will Pucovski (Victoria)
Travis Head (vc) (South Australia)
Nic Maddinson (Victoria)
Michael Neser (Queensland)
Jhye Richardson (Western Australia)
Sean Abbott (New South Wales)
Riley Meredith (Tasmania)

The 12th man will be chosen closer to the match and drawn from the local Western Australian talent pool.

National selector Trevor Hohns said: “We are pleased to pick a strong XI for the three-day tour match against Pakistan, several of whom were part of our successful Ashes campaign in the UK during the winter.

“We will closely monitor performances in this match as well as the coming rounds of the Sheffield Shield before deciding upon our squad for the two-Test series against Pakistan.

“Alex Carey has proven himself to be an exceptional leader in his role as vice-captain of the Australian men’s One-Day International and Twenty20 International teams.

"This fixture represents an opportunity to provide Alex with more leadership experience and he will be supported by two experienced vice-captains in Usman Khawaja and Travis Head.

“In terms of the batting line-up, we were eager to give Khawaja, Head and Marcus Harris another opportunity to push their respective cases for Test selection this summer given all three were part of our winter Ashes campaign.

“Joe Burns was an unlucky omission for that tour to the UK and deserves a chance to push his case for Test selection in this tour match.

"Additionally, Will Pucovski and Nic Maddinson have started the season strongly for Victoria and we’re looking forward to giving them an opportunity to perform against a quality international team. Both are exciting batsmen whom we’ve had our eye on for some time.

“The pace attack is similarly strong. Sean Abbott has been a very good performer for NSW for the last couple of seasons and has improved with both ball and bat.

"Riley Meredith is an exciting young prospect and a wicket-taking option, while Jhye Richardson continues to improve in his return from shoulder surgery. And Michael Neser has started this season in excellent form after touring with the Ashes squad through the winter.

“We’ve taken into account local conditions as well as individual requirements when selecting this Australia A XI. We have not selected a spinner because we felt they would receive limited opportunities in a three-day day-night fixture in Perth compared to a four-day Sheffield Shield match.”

Australia A’s three-day tour match against Pakistan will be a first-class day-night fixture.

Australia will play two Tests against Pakistan beginning at the Gabba on Thursday, November 21 and concluding with a day-night fixture at Adelaide Oval from Friday, November 29.

That's quite a good squad, especially in Aussie conditions. Half or more than half of them are test match players or have previoulsy played for Australia.

I thought they'd name a weak squad like all other countries do before a tour.

England had Leicestershire, Kent and Northants for our warm ups.

Will Pucovski will be given the chance to impress national selectors in a tour match for Australia A, while Usman Khawaja will be forced to prove his red-ball credentials once more.

The batsmen are just two names to be picked in a stacked XI that will play Pakistan on November 21.

The three-day, day-night tour match at Perth Stadium will serve as a final shootout for batting positions before the first Test starts at the Gabba on November 21.

Along with Khawaja and Pucovski, Test hopefuls Travis Head, Joe Burns and Marcus Harris will all play for Australia A, which will be led by South Australia’s wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Carey.

Meanwhile, Nic Maddinson’s strong start for Victoria this Sheffield Shield season has seen him also earn the nod.

Maddinson is the highest scorer this season (298 runs at 99.33) out of those picked in the XI after he scored a double century against South Australia at Junction Oval. His Victoria teammates, Harris and Pucovski, have also made strong starts, averaging 64.33 and 63 respectively.

Shaun Marsh — who has made 308 runs at 102.66 this season — was not picked. Nor were his Western Australia teammates Marcus Stoinis, who’s averaging 58 with the bat and 33.50 with the ball, or former Test opener Cameron Bancroft.

Queensland duo Burns and Khawaja haven’t set the scoreboard alight, nor has South Australia’s Head, but the trio will be given the chance to set the record straight against Pakistan.

National selector Trevor Hohns said: “In terms of the batting line-up, we were eager to give Khawaja, Head and Marcus Harris another opportunity to push their respective cases for Test selection this summer given all three were part of our winter Ashes campaign.

“Joe Burns was an unlucky omission for that tour to the UK and deserves a chance to push his case for Test selection in this tour match.

“Additionally, Will Pucovski and Nic Maddinson have started the season strongly for Victoria and we’re looking forward to giving them an opportunity to perform against a quality international team. Both are exciting batsmen whom we’ve had our eye on for some time.”

At the other end of the order, Jhye Richardson will continue his push back to the top after he missed both World Cup and Ashes campaigns through an untimely shoulder injury.

He will be partnered by Queensland swing bowler Michael Neser, New South Wales’ Sean Abbott and Riley Meredith.

“Sean Abbott has been a very good performer for NSW for the last couple of seasons and has improved with both ball and bat,” Hohns said.

“Riley Meredith is an exciting young prospect and a wicket-taking option, while Jhye Richardson continues to improve in his return from shoulder surgery. And Michael Neser has started this season in excellent form after touring with the Ashes squad through the winter.”

Speaking about the lack of a spinner in the 12, Hohns added: “We’ve taken into account local conditions as well as individual requirements when selecting this Australia A XI. We have not selected a spinner because we felt they would receive limited opportunities in a three-day day-night fixture in Perth compared to a four-day Sheffield Shield match.”

Australia A XI: Alex Carey (c) (South Australia), Marcus Harris (Victoria), Joe Burns (Queensland), Usman Khawaja (vc) (Queensland), Will Pucovski (Victoria), Travis Head (vc) (South Australia), Nic Maddinson (Victoria), Michael Neser (Queensland), Jhye Richardson (Western Australia), Sean Abbott (New South Wales), Riley Meredith (Tasmania)

Meredith is a guy I rate really highly, it’s a pity that the likes of Kane Richardson are playing ahead of him. He’s one of the quickest bowlers in the world and hits a length consistently. Deadly combo that.

Look at Haris Sohail.

That belly has grown several inches. Many folded layers of fats.

His runs will determine his performance not his weight.
Same criticism is used for Imad who's been consistently our best performer in LOIs.
Heck even Sharjeel was criticised for this, despite having a fantastic series in AUS.

Shadab and Hasan Ali are very fit. When was the last time they won a match for us?

Why do we think weight is a huge factor in performances?

That was the problem with Mickey Arthur. Too much focus put into fitness and not in performances. Do many cricketers are quite good but not deemed "fit", who honestly cares as long as they can perform. In cricket it's mostly skill. Fitness just has to be decent.

Not really. Mickey dropped a lot of non-performers but he still stuck with "overweight" Sharjeel, Sarfraz, Imad and Haris. Mickey was more concerned with the average fitness of the players in general which definitely affects fielding. He didn't drop "unfit" cricketers who were performing.

Mickey didn't drop Haris or Imad due to their knee injuries. The players he dropped for fitness were Mohammad Irfan and Umar Akmal (fitness and attitude), and these guys were unfit and non-performing.

Umar Akmal had no excuse to be unfit. And who said fitness isn't that important. All the top players currently are very fit. Name me one unfit, current, top test cricketer.

Haris Sohail has a serious knee problem, the doctors have already told him he will not have a long career in the game. People with knee problems will find it very hard to do intense cardio. He has to manage his pain for whatever time he has left.

Misbah himself is quite strict on fitness.

Hope Haris continues to do good, though being overweight can affect your performances. They'll be keeping a watch on it though.

Trust me fielding looses you most of the matches. Haris' fielding has been very below par. Fitness determines whether that ball fell short or you were not quick enough to get there. And most of these catches can win you matches.

Some things never change.

In 2016-17, Misbah was not in the team on merit, as Ian Chappell so memorably said.

Misbah was a passenger taking the place of someone more qualified for the job.

Now in 2019-20, Misbah is neither the Head Coach nor the Chief Selector on merit. He is again a freeloader occupying positions that he is not qualified to hold.
