All of this with rain suspected later in the day as well. ICCs brainlessness and rigidity knows no bounds. Pathetic and incompetent organization. Sometimes it feels like they want Test cricket to die

roti thandi hoja see.

You can't shift sessions because broadcasters have shows and advertisements inbetween.

I think time slot for advertisements matter alot

It’s ridiculous , when they knew play was not going to start until 12:30 , and lunch time was going to be changed anyway - why not from 11:50 to 12:30 and have a full first session ?

Just daft.... can’t see why they didn’t take an early lunch and have two longer sessions with a tea break in between.

I just signed in to comment this in match thread and then was this. This is really stupid. It's better to take advantage of the good conditions now, later on it can be bad light.

Should have had an early lunch and had a longer 2 sessions. Wasting time by having lunch after an hour of play.

Agree with this, could have delayed the start to perhaps 1pm then have the longer session till tea or two longer sessions.

Simon Mann on Twitter —
“You can split the intervals into two 30-minute intervals rather than a 40-20 split according to the laws of the game. That feels like it would be more sensible on a day like today.”

There was 7 hours between the start of play today and the scheduled close of play. You can't have all that only broken up by a 20 minute break.

There's no way we get 7 hours of play today. Would be lucky to get 3. I think this is where we use common sense

And Babar Azam out.

This could be an English conspiracy to keep unsettling Pakistani batsmen.

It’s a clear ploy by the English officials to disrupt our flow, had they left lunch out we’d be past 250 by now

This thread isn’t about garbage conspiracy theories. It’s about incompetence

There is no more rain forecast today, we may not play all the way up until 7.30 but it's quite possible we'll play the majority of it.

Two unnecessary breaks because of light. What a disgusting, poorly managed sport. Boomers really do ruin everything

 pretty embarrassing day to be an advocate of Test cricket. Even the umpires are now looking sheepish at having to follow these archaic rules.

Not bad, players had three hours work and one hour for food, paid for four hours together..... if only it was in our office life!!!!

Looks like the light will be the bigger issue rather than rain today.

The real issue is ridiculous rules and their shoddy implementation.

Guys, Do they still have that Ice bucket challenge stuff going on, come on pour all of it

Had we not had that lunch break, England may already have faced 10 overs and the game would be even more advanced... OR Babar and Rizwan could have taken the score to 300.

I just don't understand the logic behind it.

Someone please explain to me why they did that?

And now the light business - there are lights in the ground - play on!

You know who doesnt do this bad light and lunch break drama? IPL

No chance of play soon - England players walking back to their hotel.

Why not take an early Lunch now?

It would be lucky to even get 50 overs in the 3 days.

This test and the next one won't have much more of a game.

On one hand ICC is interested in modernizing the format, and bringing more viewership in, and on the other hand they allow these stupid, archaic rules to continue. The bad light rule is just as stupid. The batting side should have a choice. And I don't see why you can't use the floodlights.

They have already changed so much so why do they have such a big problem making some adjustments to these basic rules?
