Seeing the Umar Akmal drama unfold, one could see his career coming to a halt till Authur is there. His career might have ended with what he did today.

Which other player do you think ended their career due to their own antics.

Zulqarnain haider
Mohammad asif
Umar akmal

Sachin Tendulkar.

I know some might be scratching their heads over this but his refusal to just hang up his boots for years and years despite it being so evident that he no longer had it just destroyed his aura of greatness to a great deal in the minds of many fans tbh.. not to talk about that horrendous occurrence that was the 100th hundred. I've never been more embarrassed as a cricketing fan seeing such an openly selfish display of batsmanship in my life. He was like 45 (55) and then followed it up by being like 100 (137). What an absolute shame of a performance and quite fittingly it ended in a loss.

Not in the least. Especially seeing how gracefully Dravid and Laxman gave way made Tendulkar's last 2-3 years even more annoying, he basically took 2 years off Rahane's career who was averaging like 70 in FC around that time and would have been an immediate pick if Tendulkar had given way. Not to mention the fact that the BCCI had to arrange a home 2 Test series against WI especially for this man so that he can complete his 200th Test and his career without being humiliated by the SA pacemen as originally scheduled. That whole ordeal was just nauseating tbh and tremendously destroyed a lot of respect I had for Tendulkar.

Shoaib Akhtar, if you are speaking of destroying one's own career.

Shahid Afridi

Asif, Amir, Sharjeel are a bit different case - because I think, more than any thing, they were unlucky. Many others were lucky ................

You're confusing legacy with career.

24 year career, 200 tests, 463 ODIs, and richest cricketer of all time when he retired. I'd love for my career to get destroyed if that's the result.

I don't even agree on the legacy part since he's cherished by everyone.

If you read OP again, he is mentioning about career sucide and what you mentioned here is complete opposite. If Tendulkar played few years longer, how exactly have that destroyed his career, if anything that actually prolonged his career.

No one except the two Pak pacers who were buddies as well: Akhtar and Asif, they could have had 10-15 years long careers with 300-400+ wickets in Tests but they ensured that every time they got on top, they self trip themselves and started a steep descend immediately!

Mohammad Asif is certainly the most depressing.

What an utter waste of ATG skill.

Dravid & Laxman didn;t give way to anyone, they would've been dropped if they hadn;t announce their retirement before the NZ series. Also Rahane's way was blocked by Sharmaji he debuted earlier IIRC, Sharma was also preferred over Rahane due to his ODI exploits.

Most heartbreaking:

Gold: Asif.
Silver: Shoaib.
Bronze: KP.

I think England (ECB) are way too serious. If KP were Pakistani then he would have adjusted perfectly and PCB etc. would have never cared for his off the field shenanigans as long as he played his match-winning knocks. Likes of Akhtar/Afridi etc. were 'pardoned' for worst stuff over the years.

Surprised to see Kambli missing so far.

Phenomenal record

Phenomenal record

Kambli definitely one, but he had his own weakness as well. His phenomenal record (I believe he ended with averages like 54 & 33), was built on soft runs. Once he faced WI, his weakness against pace was exposed. Brilliant spin player but not much against pace. He did play FC cricket for Mumbai till mid of 2000s and probably scored some domestic record (10K? FC runs) but wasn't good enough to make a comeback. Last he played probably in 2001 - that's 10+ career in patches.

But yes, one for this list for sure.

Dont you remember?

Guy left mid tour. Infact we had a match that day and he left in the morning saying that he got a bad msg.

He was threatened by someone to leave cricket and reportedly that someone told him that he would harm his family aswell if zulqarnain didn't left cricket.

Zulqarnain not only left cricket, he left Pakistan as well. He flew from Pakistan and is probably staying in England.

He was forced to do so.

Hansie Cronje

Universally acclaimed as a great tactician, prolific batsman and his country's greatest captain till he got embroiled in the match fixing controversy and was banned for life. Later died in a plane crash in a flight he wasn't supposed to be on aged 32.A perfect movie script

he was not forced. he made himself a joke. Every person in Pakistan gets a threatening call once in a while, he was immature.

Had he dealt this with maturity, he would had been playing the 2011 world cup

The late Hansie Cronje
Herschelle Gibbs
Some other South Africans I cannot remember...

Andrew Symonds. Had he been Pakistani we'd still be giving chances to him:shafiq2

Sachin Tendulkar.

Agree to extent of that one innings only, that was a a match which eventually India lost to BD due to sheer selfishness of Sachin.

he came back from UK only after 6 months and played First Class for 5 more years in Pakistan.

KP. Had the talent to be an ATG of the game, and England's greatest ever batsman, but ended up as a merely very good cricketer, who may / may not get into an England all-time XI depending on who picks it.

I still regret how Pietersen's career ended. I realize he was neurotic and high maintenance which invariably ruffled the dressing room, but it was criminal how he was scapegoated for the Ashes debacle of 2013. He potentially remains the best England batsman since the war. I suspect the Yorkshire lad will surpass him eventually though.

I think Flower just ran out of patience with the guy and waited for him to have a bad series to drop him. Sadly that came at a time when Trott suffered mental illness, Prior's knees and Swann's elbow gave way so England lost four top players at once and arguably are still rebuilding.
