Some eye-opening stats in this picture - but shouldn't be a surprise when it comes to Pakistan and the resources they have.

Yet Sri Lanka top the stats but are bottom of the WC table.

Power Plays are so overrated, and misunderstood too.

Sri Lanka holds the top position in Powerplay run rates, yet they are right at the bottom of the points table in this world cup.

That means at the end of powerplay, India has generally scored 66 runs and Pakistan has scored 46 runs. This 20 runs gap keeps increasing with every subsequent 10 over block. Our game plan is to cover the difference in the last 10 and before the 40.1 ball is bowled we are already 50+ runs behind India and having to play out of your skins just to reach a par score.

Seems this simple logic is too difficult for illiterate captain and his band of friends to understand.

It requires special type of bowling force to dilute the advantage :) They got to 344 which should have been defendable. But bowling is pathetic. Same way they conceded 428 otherwise could have chased down.

What people are missing about Sri Lanka is that they have the worst bowling in this tournament. Twice they scored 300+ out of the 3 games. And last game they were all set for 300+ before a major collapse.

Sri Lanka's best players and in-form are in the top order so once they get out they always collapse. It would be interesting to see 40-50 overs performance team wise in this world cup which I believe is the reason with weakest bowling lineup for their losses.

Their powerplay performance has actually been the main positive uptil now and saved them from drubbings.

Lanka is batting well , it’s their terrible bowling that’s causing issues.

Sri Lanka top in this stat, but bottom of the table.

Tells you how poor their bowling is.

Their captain is pretty useless. He made clear blunders against Pakistan, let them off the hook.

They are also being let down massively by their pacers Kumara and Pathirana. Both from the Mohammad Sami spray gun Academy.

They miss Rajitha and Hasaranga badly

Yes, their bowling is the worst among all the teams by a long distance. Last four are AFG, BD, NED, HUGE GAP And then SL

In today's match both Bangladesh and India made 63/0 in their powerplay.

Would love to see the stats for how each team bowled in power play. Let me see if i can collect

If Pakistan can Chase 340 and 367 without hitting six than it's fine.

I'm having difficulty understanding this strategy of playing at run a ball when the required rate is 8+ and then going all out after 35th over.

I understand a lot of people agree with this strategy but it would only make sense if we have reliable batsmen coming in after the 35th over and value their wicket.

also if batsmen are going to play out the powerplay it would only make sense if they recover the run rate once settled, but a lot of times the batsmen gift their wicket, but then in coming batsmen go through the same cycle of playing out bowlers.

going with this strategy we are not fully making use of the powerplay, its probably the best time to hit the boundaries as the most of the field in the circle.

I really don't understand why the bad balls shouldn't be punished in the first in the first few overs when bowlers are finding rhythm, line and length, its probably the best time to build pressure on the opposition.

what are your thoughts

out dated strategy they were playing great till 5 over than the choke started. No wonder we are a crap team and never going to improve

Strategy is made when you have World class players with nudgers no strategy is successful because they are limited in their ability its like

Quashie Naismith Taylor Elliot
Or
-------------Naismith
Quashie ----------------Taylor
----------------Elliot-----------

Or------------ Naismith Quashie
Taylor-------------------------------------Elliot

Nothing will change because players have limited abilities

Was a stupid strategy always.

It works when you have 6 hitters like Mahmood, Razzaq, Afridi, Akmal down the order.

When you have I am century Babar, Oscar winner Riz, Spin basher Saud and Oldie Ifti down the order followed by a tail that could be possibly worse than Netherlands or Afghanistan, the strategy is bound to fail.

What irks me worse is, the same standards principle the lack of which we apply in our team.

Babar and Rizwan can statpad a stairway to heaven but the onus is on Imam, Shafique, Iftikhar, Saud, and lower order to hit 6s vs Hazlewood and Starc.

Babar and Rizwan are supposed to be best ODI batters in the world.

Surely, they can take charge and hit 6s to win the match?

But they go their merry way while rest of batsmen get ridiculed for not hitting enough 6s.

It’s not like we have Hafeez or Malik to do some big hitting down the order. We can’t set up for losing 6 for 36 like today, or 8 for 40 v India. Got to be more proactive, started well in first 5 overs and then slowed down to normality by 10 overs. Problem is even decent starts are not good enough at 30 over marks, we need extraordinary play by the top order because the lower order don’t know how to bat.

No surprise with Pakistan at the bototm of the list, but what's impressive is Sri Lanka's aggressive intent

Not really good stats.. remember Shahid Afridi had the fastest hundred and sixers records.

Netherlands have registered the second-lowest powerplay score in this ODI World Cup in 2023.

South Africa has most number of wickets in PowerPlay in ICC ODI World Cup 2023. Can they win their first title this time?
