Pravin Amre - Wasted batting talent?

He came from the Achrekar school of batting - same as Sachin and Kambli.

Dream test debut against South Africa and even great domestic records. He also was rated highly in the South African domestic circuit (which certainly was of high standard).

Was he a victim of politics in BCCI or some genuine reason he couldn't become a permanent fixture in the Indain team??

The Bombay lobby favored Manjrekar and Kambli over him so there was no place for him in the middle order with Tendulkar and Azhar occupying the other 2 slots. By the time those two were discarded, Ganguly, Dravid and Laxman had arrived so he missed out. Plus his ODI record was poor and since India played a lot more ODIs than Tests that impacted his selection as well. The trend of selecting different players for different formats had not yet started in the early 90s
