New Zealand will take on Pakistan in the first ODI at McLean Park, Napier, on March 29, kicking off a three-match series. The hosts are coming off a dominant 4-1 T20I series win, where Pakistan struggled badly, losing four matches in convincing fashion.

New Zealand appears to be in strong form, especially at home, while Pakistan will hope for a turnaround after their T20I woes.

Can the Shaheens turn things around in this three-match series, or will the Black Caps continue their winning momentum?

I cannot understand the wisdom of extended & completely different white ball squads for short tours. The new players joining in have to acclimatize now & there isn't enough team while the T20 players who are used to the time zones, conditions, etc. are being sent back.

Why couldn't have Akif been part of the T20 squad in place of Shaheen & gotten some experience of the conditions? We just keep traveling in circles

Babar, Rizwan, Agha, Naseem, Rauf, Abdullah, Imam (all these guys have been present and pretty much full members in the setup from 2016-2025 period with most of them being established members by 2023)

Shaheen not playing means nothing, he's useless. At present, Both waseem jnr and Rauf are in better touch.

Then Tayyab, Niazi, Usman Khan( Granted they don't have him games but he's travelled enough), abrar, Sufiyan have atleast been on and off travellers and a part of the setup since 2024.

1) Kamran Ghulam should have been selected. He has a 41 list A avg and an amazing sr. In odi international in 11 games he had an avg of 30 and 99 SR which isn't bad considering he's played most of his games at 6

I understand people think he's medicore but how does Niazi play ahead of him . Niazi has been a trash heap in international cricket and his List A record sits at 27 avg? He's only good for test cricket?

2) Hussain Talat should have been selected, I'd actually select him and play him at no 4.

Theirs no need for rizwan or babar this tour, it's suppose to be a tour for newbies? Talat avg 41 in list A and sr of 92 warrants a place + he's been killing it for a while now.

Besides you gave him onky 1 international odi , and played him t20 when he isn't suited for that format . Typical PCB

3) Similarly Haider Ali should have been selected. On current form he's better then Tayyab and Niazi both. He deserves a recall. Don't give him the Umar akmal treatment.

4) Mubasir Khan is 100x the player Khusdil Shah is, literally makes zero sense for khusdil to play instead.

5) I don't like shabzada farhan, but based of current form he deserves to play over imam as he's clearly > Imam atm.

6) Maaz Sadaqat should have been given a debut, no sense for Abdullah to return

It would be no surprise waking up at sehri and seeing pak reeling at 20/4 after 12 overs.

2026 t20 wc is a gone case lol . I would genuinely start preparing Pakistan for odi 2027 wtc and odi world cup 2027.

You need to expose them in tough conditons. Same goes for t20 as well even if it's a lost cause atm.

A pointless 3 match series in the build up to a heavily scheduled T20 year

The selections of Babar and Rizwan were simply to cut down the media uproar by their PR agencies. Otherwise even a 3-0 win here for Pakistan has no bearing whatsoever towards the progress of the ODI team as long as they keep getting their core players and their positions wrong.

Inzi was flexible for 4 and 5, did a decent job opening as well. No 3 wasn't his number though.

Problem is what even if Rizwan's no? I saw some other threads where some posters went after you claiming all you do is stay unhappy irrespective of where rizwan is in the order,

But the issue is, these guys don't understand that he doesn't fit in anywhere in whiteball cricket. No number swapping will change that.
