The tour of Australia starts now! England are facing a tricky opening to their winter tour against a Prime Ministers XI at Canberra. Players like Ashley Giles, Monty Panesar and Geraint Jones who all missed the champions Trophy are all likely to start

England (likely): Andrew Flintoff (captain), Andrew Strauss, Marcus Trescothick, Alastair Cook, Kevin Pietersen, Geraint Jones, Ashley Giles, Liam Plunkett, Matthew Hoggard, Steve Harmison, Monty Panesar.

Prime Minister's XI: Cameron White (captain), Travis Birt, Mark Cosgrove, Brett Dorey, Ben Hilfenhaus, Phil Jaques, Shaun Marsh, Tim Paine, Adam Pritchard, Shaun Tait, Adam Voges, Mark Divin (12th man).

Live on sky Sports 1 in UK, Live on Fox Sports in Aus from 11pm GMT

I better be off to sleep soon!

Cool, i didnt know it was on live on sky! :)

Thats a pretty strong side Birt, Cosgrove are very good propsects as batsmen. If brett dorey and shaun Tait get it right they could have england batsmen hoping around, if the dont they can be very wayward!

Keep an eye out for Hilfenhaus.

I hear he's bowling quite nicely for Tassie at the moment.

Mind you, so is Adam Griffith..

I'm quite surprised they are showing something as feeble as a low key warm up game.

Cricket is cricket and if its live even better :)

Charles colville and Bob Willis talking crap for the next 3 months..

Sky's list didn't have Pietersen in the 12 (Sky Text). I presume with them listing 12, that's the squad? Or else Sky have f**ked up...

Should be good two evenly matched sides although one is an internatinal team and teh othe an "A" team.

Thats jokes, a warm-up match LIVE on Sky Sports 1, good thing is that its on about 11pm, who is going to be bothered to watch this.

By the way too much pressure on England to win back the Ashes, I hope they do, but it asking a lot, with their current team. I hope Monty is Man of the Series, as he one of a select few English players that I like, you know his mentality, personality and general attitude to cricket.

You can't change the time they are playing in Aus.

Most of tests will start at 2/3am in morning so il watch last session or last 1.5 sessions before i go work in mornings.

Perth test tends to start 4/5am uk time.

No such problems for me. Last exam on monday, which is just before the Ashes start. Just lie down on the coach, and relax

Aus right now, but even if I was in Bahrain, I'd so the same. Unless I do something stupid like get a job

So you going to any of test/odis at all? Or you just going to watch from home?

Dont you get mixed coverage on cricket depending on what state your in?

The Sydney Test is pretty much sold out so no chance for that. An ODI might not be a bad option though. We'll be getting mixed coverage for the Sydney Test, but since its sold out, they'll be showing more than they would if it werent. Obviously we'll miss bits for the news and some other stuff

i hope sajid mahmood plays

he could seal his ashes spot if he bowls good tonight

Ashley Giles was named in an England side for the first time in a year for the first match of their Ashes tour against a Prime Minister's XI.

The spinner, who has undergone two hip operations, was part of a strong line-up for the one-dayer in Canberra.

And Marcus Trescothick, Alastair Cook, Geraint Jones and Monty Panesar - who missed the recent Champions Trophy in India - were also included in the team.

But pace bowlers Matthew Hoggard and Liam Plunkett were not considered.

Interview: Australian Prime Minister John Howard

The other men to sit out the game were batsman Ian Bell, wicket-keeper Chris Read and paceman Steve Harmison.

The Prime Minister's XI, led by leg-spin all-rounder Cameron White, included paceman Shaun Tait.

England captain Andrew Flintoff, who has bowled just five competitive overs since recovering from ankle surgery, was hoping to increase his workload.

England: Andrew Flintoff (capt), Andrew Strauss, Marcus Trescothick, Alastair Cook, Paul Collingwood, Kevin Pietersen, Geraint Jones, Ashley Giles, Sajid Mahmood, James Anderson. Monty Panesar.

Prime Minister's XI: Cameron White (capt), Travis Birt, Mark Cosgrove, Brett Dorey, Ben Hilfenhaus, Phil Jaques, Shaun Marsh, Tim Paine, Adam Pritchard, Shaun Tait, Adam Voges, Mark Divin (12th man).

I hope KP isn't at 5.

There's no need for him to shift from 4.

How funny are the Ashes going to be. You'll get a number of the Pakistanis in England going for the Aussies while the Pakistanis in Australia will be going for England

6/0 off 4. The Fox sports coverage is worse than Channel 5s. Mark Waugh and Jeff Lawson on commentary.

Super pull shot fromJaques for 4. Anderson is a bit loose to start.

hopefully England get destroyed

11.4 Anderson to Jaques, 1 run, tries to guide to 3rd man, Jones drops a sitter, dear me - Chris Read would be feeling a bit chipper about that
