PSL - Too much of a party for some owners and less cricket?

Having witnessed the PSL at close quarters, my feeling is that apart from the teams and their coaches, there seems to be a lot of hangers ons who are probably interfering in running of these teams.

So we have all sorts of family member, children, friends etc and sometimes the PSL looked like an exclusive party for some and less of a cricket tournament. Team dinners, trips to the sea etc -when really these players should have been concentrating on the task at hand ie to win the tournament.

I am not sure how much money these team owners have to throw about but if I were some of them, I would be asking for more bang from my buck!

Problem is that the owners themselves get pulled into the hype! Maybe this is the nature of franchise cricket as modeled by IPL but we really dont need to blindly copy that.

So you are going to force Franchise Owners to not party? That is the beauty of the league, to play hard competitive cricket on the field and to have a good time off it.

The cricket has been very good and in the last week, weve seen the batsmen open up. I'm not bothered what they do off the field if it doesnt affect their on field ability and is within the confines of the law. So basically no street fighting ala Stokes.

Is this aimed at certain franchises in particular MIG

Need some more clarity

Just find it odd that concentration on cricket seems to take a back seat. Just too much of a carnival atmosphere.

No not aimed at anyone - just a general observation - watching owner families and their friends waltzing around the stadiums like they 'own' our cricket etc.

Obviously PSL is the biggest thing to happen in years but I feel uneasy about this.

And so the new season is upon us as are the parties and entertainment....

Good luck at regulating whether the owners can party or not

I think over time as the league matures the teams will become more and more professional. Personal money is on the line for owners here unlike in the PCB. So as they see other franchises making more and more money with professionalism they'll sort out their own teams too. Even in the IPL there was more ownership involvement day to day and now they've moved more towards professionalism.

These owners have limited finances so I hope at the end of the day sense prevails and they wake up and realise that money matters and for money to start flowing, winning matters.

Karachi Kings and Lahore Qalandars have deep pockets but for the smaller franchises, winning is critical.

Think a few of the players want the cricket to start....

To think that they would block the whole city for these parties is even more annoying

Some of these are 'team bonding' events, not a bad idea in my opinion, the teams are running a 4 hour training session then back to hotel, after that no harm in events and/or parties where players get to know each other, especially will help the foreign players to gel - I particularly like Alex Hales for examples, posting a picture about a relaxing day at the beach, those kind of things are very important from an optics' point of view..in the grand scheme of things and bringing PSL back home, i suppose.

Based on what? All franchises have relatively similar pockets, if you are basing it on purchase price then Multan has the deepest pockets.

These kind of leagues are ment for PARTY, not building/training/perfecting cricketers. Thats for international/domestic cricket.

We call IPL a tamasha league for a reason, PSL/BPL/ETC is no different.

Lol at the idea of running a team like a school class. No need

wow - talk about making a mountain out of a mole hill

Chill out. Its a local T20 tournament - its supposed to be a party (which in Pakistan is fairly mild anyway without alcohol, etc).

As for the money, if the owners wanted to make money they would've invested somewhere else. They buy a PSL team to get into the most exclusively club in Pakistan. Its isn't a investment as much as an entrance fee

That's franchise cricket for you. Owners have payed millions for this. :)

We need to bring back national T20 tournament. That's the platform which will provide maximum opportunities to regional players.
