Why shouldn't he explain this when someone specifically created this graphic to dent PTI votebank by playing Ahmedi card against them knowing the mindset of majority voters? This is not the first time it's done even during dherna days Ahmedi card was used against PTI and it worked really well to dent the support.

Another thing wrong with this graphic is Ismailis are being categorized with non muslim communities.

Never knew the difference between Ahmedis and Ismailis.

Ismailis are sub sect of Shia Islam. Our founding father Jinnah was an Ismaili Shia.

They are very different. Ahmadiyyas say their founder Mirza Ghulam Ahmad is the prophet promised by earlier prophets, and are therefore neither Sunnis or Shias.

Ismailis are a sub-sect of Shias, and recognize the Aga Khan as their leader.

The most famous Pakistani scientist was a Ahmadiyya. The most famous Pakistani statesman was a Ismaili.

What does it say? Can't understand Urdu but isn't Imran Khan a supporter of minorities in his province? I remember a few threads here about how he wanted minorities included in census, reservation for minorities, etc.

There are better ways to defend and brief. Ali Zaidi could have avoided it. If his views represent PTI approach then it is another uncivilized noora league, which I'm sure it isn't.
Or I m missing something ?

Unfortunately in Pakistan if you come out publicly in support of one particular minority sect then you are blacklisted and on the hit list

I agree there were better ways to explain he should have avoided it but i guess this image was gone viral by noonies claiming PTI is an Ahmedi party just like Dherna days when they created images of Ahmedis funding and supporting PTI to dent PTI support we all know how majority acts to claims like this in Pakistan

What does it say?

Support for and guarantee to protect and foster Ahmedi, Ismaili, Hindu and Christian rights...

The problem is with support for Ahmedi rights

For the PML-N government turning discussion to Ahmedis was the modus operandi in parliament whenever there was a problem for them. Only MQM from Karachi has openly supported Ahmedi rights

So PTI does not care about the rights of the minorities, which obviously include Ahmadis?

Thanks for the translation, from online space I gather that Hindus/Christians/Sikhs/Shias don't have it nearly as tough as Ahmedis in Pakistan. Hopefully Imran Khan can start the process to change that if he is elected to power. Highly impressed by MQM's stance on this volatile subject, very brave of them and they deserve appreciation.

Well I personally know of MQM giving protection to and supporting Ahmedi events etc in Karachi but I dont want to go into that detail because I have been told that in confidence.

However I guess an equally significant piece of info would be that MQM leaders including Altaf Hussain on national TV years ago has supported Ahmedi rights and said that they should be called Muslims if they believe they are so and no one has the right to term them as kafirs etc. (its on youtube. I believe it was either a bushra ansari show or some ARY show)

However more than this statement (which is pretty huge in itself because no other party dares do that), I think even more significant is thatm as I mentioned, they have actually done work for Ahmedis and given them protection and platforms etc.

Please note that this is old traditional MQM I am talking about and before it went up in flames. Not a fan of the party at all but always felt that this particular act of theirs was ballsy

Extremely interesting and thanks for sharing. I did know that the old MQM was styled as a secular force but didn't know about their advocacy on this topic. I guess I have spent most of my life in Islamabad so I don't really get to meet many people first hand who have had experience of the 'old' MQM.

well my memory is a bit hazy so wasnt correct on exact words but support for ahmedi rights nonetheless on their part

but let it be clear - im no mqm supporter lol.

Given PTI are trying their best to distance themselves from a statement on minority rights, do you think they will be willing to take on the Ahmadi issue if they get power? Remember Imran's embarrassing u-turn on Atif Mian?

Do you think anyone from major parties will take up the Ahmadi issue?

PML-N is worse in this regard (Ahmedis are always their punching bag when they need to deflect) , then PTI comes a distant second in my opinion (they are always quick to distance themselves but not always as antagonistic on this matter as PML-N senior leaders), PPP are quiet on this issue normally but they do not have the guts to do anything about it and history will always remember them as the ones who caved into the extremists in 1970s in relation to the Ahmedi issue

Sorry I am not well versed in Pakistani politics, so don't know all the nitty-gritty. But in my view politics is the art of compromise, to win elections sometimes politicians need to be tactful, after getting voted to power they can maybe do a better job in implementing their vision and ideas. This is especially true in Pakistan where the political balance is tilted to the far right and even a small public perception in certain sensitive issues may prove catastrophic.

I can give you the example of Kerala in South India where politics is extremely left leaning. But of late even hardcore communists are going temple hopping, meeting Hindu priests, attending temple celebrations, this has increased post the rise of BJP/RSS. Not like they believe in all this stuff but they don't want RSS/BJP to make inroads due to their perceived indifference to Hindus. Maybe PTI is in a similar dilemma, if they are seen to be too close to Ahmedis their political opponents might benefit. As such who fulfills poll promises in South Asia? If Imran is a good leader and if he gets a big majority he can make Pakistan a better place for minorities via 100 different ways, if he continues ignoring their predicament well bad luck. Other parties and military ruled Pakistan all these years and they failed, if Imran too fails may be Pakistan isn't ready to accept Ahmedis and they have no future the country.

The left leaning leaders were wooing Bishops ,so it was high time they started on Hindu priests.

Well there are hundreds of such posters from different political parties that could display candidate's personal views and Ali Zaidi is clarifying because such issues are exploited by opponents and sadly this is one issue that could literally end political career.

This is what Imran Khan said i do believe he is sort of person who never talks about DIVIDING people on the basis of ethnicity, caste, religion, sect etc

Khan added that he had been waiting for the upcoming elections for the past 22 years. “Allah provides many less chances to a nation like of July 25 to change their destiny,” he said. Imran Khan said that PTI if comes to power will establish rule of law where all citizens from all classes would enjoy equal rights.

So everyone now playing to the gallery. Not bad in that sense.

Are ismailis the one who follow that Kashmiri Prince who lives in france now?

They follow Prince Karim Aga Khan he lives in Switzerland . I think he is their 50th Imam. In their faith Imamat continues while other shias believe Imamat end at 12th Imam (Imaam e Zamana, Imam Mehdi)

Oh yeah I remember him from his interview with an indian reporter who was trying to get a controversial statement out of him regarding some dumb fact that the angriest muslims are in Pak.

hehe yea Ismailis are one of the most successful and patriotic Pakistanis. The reason we have Gwadar is because of his father Agha Khan he purchased it from Oman and gifted to Pakistan after partition.
