Pune 2017 is just another reason why this era is so woeful for cricket

When people claim that batsmen of today can be compared to yesteryears and vice versa with bowlers, today can prove why. I'm not saying there are players who will not excel in the 80s-00s and players from that era who will not excel now, I'm simply stating how low the quality of cricket is.

Steve Smith (due to being a good player of spin), Mitch Starc, Rahane(on seamer wickets only),Rabada , Herath are examples of a small bunch of those few players of today who would do well regardless of the era.

However, Most say that this Indian batting line up is shaping to be viable replacements for the 00s batsmen. However, when comparing their spin play credentials, it's easily clear that they simply are not good enough. Form isn't to blame here, lack of ability is.

Similarly, we have bowlers such as Dean Elgar, Sodhi or even the 'formidable' Mr O'Keefe ripping through line ups. A simple question would be, would the previous gen batsmen falter like todays?

The only thing which seems superior nowadays is the ability to hit big and the very aggressive attitude (if given flat wickets, todays generations will easily beat older ones in batting). However, whenever there is conditions which emulate how conditions used to be for the previous gen players, everyone bar a few fail.

Rabada averages 55 in India. Just saying.

Regarding the ability to play spin, I feel that the DRS would add a spanner in the works of batsmen of yore. Playing with the bat alongside the pad - as we Indians are finding out the hard way - is not the way to go. But that was the staple technique of the Dravids and Laras of this world earlier.

Not exactly a normal series that, wouldn't you agree?

The assumption here is no unknown bowler has taken wickets in previous non-DRS favorable home umpire era?Not to forget no close camera to know whether or not something fishy was happening to the ball?

The very first thread i created in PP was also the same about how It was better before as i felt that then, but as so many posters have discussed it multiple times and what not,its easy to compare across eras due to numerous reasons.
