Putting a value to your wicket - A cliched term or what good batsmen do?

Seems that this is an alien concept for Pakistan batsmen but i need to know if this actually means anything for Pakistan batsmen?!

Do likes of Virat Kohli, KW, Root 'value' their wicket more than others or its just natural to them?

Exactly. They are batsmen they should be able to speak through their bat and courage. get hit on the head get hit on the ribs but don't play rash shots to give away your wicket. Asad, Azhar and Sarfraz prime culprits today of what you are saying MIG

Kohli is playing his unnatural game in Aus. Good players do change their game if they think it will help their team. Kane has done as well.

Maybe an issue of simple lack of skills?

Asad and Sarfraz throwing the bat to a wide ball is just not acceptable. And Azhar just scooping one in the air. These are our senior players.

I think its the issue of choosing the easier option to get out of the pressure situation. Going for an extravagant drive rather than grinding it out on the middle

It means staying in as long as you can and making them work hard to get you out. If you can’t score, dig in for a bit, wait for a change of bowling or for the bowlers to tire or for the cloud to blow away.

Batting is a reaction for these guys. Natural reaction to a ball for these guys almost always a safe option. Keeping the ball on the ground, placing the ball in the gap. Rohit for all his all ODI exploits cannot place the ball like Kohli. He relies on clearing the infield. So there is more chance of getting out.

So basically they are more worried about survival and keeping a place in the team!

Just watch the Australia tail fighting to save the test (in-case of rain tomorrow). They have put an enormous price on their wicket and are making the Indian bowlers fight tooth and nail to try and dislodge them. This is what every batsman in every team should do in test cricket.
