DOHA: Qatar, isolated by its neighbours in a diplomatic crisis, announced on Wednesday a visa-free entry programme for 80 nationalities to stimulate air transport and tourism.

“The visa exemption scheme will make Qatar the most open country in the region,” tourism department official Hassan al-Ibrahim told a press conference in Doha.

Interior ministry official Mohamed Rashed al-Mazroui said the nationals of 80 countries would only need to present a valid passport for entry to the energy-rich Gulf state which is to host football’s 2022 World Cup.

Mazroui said the countries were selected on the basis of security and economic considerations, or for the buying-power of their nationals.

Qatar Airways chief Akbar al-Baker said his carrier, which this year plans to extend its network to 62 new destinations, would be a primary beneficiary.

Doha, Qatar - the latest destination for work-seeking kabootars from a certain North Indian state.

What? How dare they. Let's re-align ourselves with Saudi Arabia and give these Qatari's a right royal trashing.

But fair do's to them, they've gotta do something post the gulf embargo. Hope it works out for them, you must be doing something right if both Israel and Saudi Arabia hate you

Qatar is a terrible place

Looks like the newspaper updated their headline after you copied it as the thread title.

Its funny that OP is likely to be the sort of person who badmouths Arabs but is the first in line to rejoice when an Arab country gives Indians a visa :))

A bit of a strange differentiation for those in the 1st group (valid up to 180 days, and stay up to 90 days) versus those in the 2nd group (valid up to 30 days, stay up to 30 days).

Most of the European countries (except the UK), including the likes of Cyprus, Poland and Romania are in the 1st group, whilst USA, UK, Canada, Japan are in the 2nd group. The USA has a very large military base and almost 10,000 military personnel stationed there, but it ranks lower than, say, Cyprus and Romania in terms of "security and economic considerations, or for the buying-power of their nationals" ? :13:

And Iran, which currently is acting as a lifeline for Qatar due to the blockade by the Saudis and UAE is not even on either list.

Congratulations to the Indians - Pakistan will miss out big time on the slave labour jobs.

Who wants to go to any oppressive Arab country anyway? Only UAE is any good that allows freedom of thought. The rest are oppressive regimes or mostly complete war zones. In India they kill you for eating beef and in Qatar you require a license to purchase pork, how stupid can you get?:)) Qataris are as annoying and arrogant as Saudi's and Emiratis or whatever you call them.

Lebanon, Israel and Jordan are places worth visiting. If you consider Cyprus the Middle East, them too.

1. I cannot travel to Israel.
2. Lebanon is good for party, but apart from that its not a big tourist destination plus half the country is still recovering from war.
3. Jordan gives me Qatar type vibes, but yeah it seems best of the lot atm.

Bahrain is a great place to live if you have a decent income and hold a decent job e.g. engineer, doctor, accountant, nurse, pharmacist, IT analyst etc.

Not as conservative as Saudi Arabia - in fact pretty open and definitely a lot cheaper than Qatar/UAE.

A lot of things to do and very easy to enjoy a comfortable life.

My sister lives there so can speak about it first hand.

Only drawback is the heat!

Even the heat is better than most parts of Saudi Arabia

You just need to choose the area you live in very carefully.
