Rahul Dravid Declines Honorary Doctorate, Says Will Earn One Through Research

BENGALURU: Former India captain Rahul Dravid on Wednesday turned down the honorary doctorate Bangalore University wanted to confer on him. He informed the university that he wants to “earn a doctorate degree” rather than receiving an honorary one.

“While thanking the university for recognizing him, (Dravid) has in all humility declined to accept the honorary degree,” Vice-Chancellor B Thimme Gowda. “He has conveyed that he would try to earn a doctorate degree by accomplishing some form of academic research in the field of sport rather than receiving an honorary degree.”

This comes a day after Karnataka Governor and Bangalore University Chancellor Vajubhai R Vala approved conferment of an honorary doctorate on Dravid at the university’s 52nd annual convocation scheduled to be held on January 27. The university had recommended three personalities for honorary doctorate, of which the Governor had finalized Dravid. The university has not revealed the names of the other two.

I have great respect for Rahul Dravid. Not only was he a world class batsman but seems a very intelligent man as well. Another great forward defensive by "the wall", as a person I have always liked his attitude better then Tendulkar.

Yeah, Dravid is awesome, its tough to hate him. But why drag Sachin Tendulkar into this? What has Sachin done to earn your ire? Even he refused a Indian Rupees 20 Crore/year deal on principle, it was alcohol promotion.
 
Thank God for once someone took the right decision,doesn't matter if he does it or not,he is already helping ICT by working with youngsters.
 
He could have been discrete about it, without embarrassing the university whose only fault was that they wanted to honour him. Let us see what research he does to earn it now.

Sachin also turned down honorary doctorates from many universities.

Sachin is rude. He lacks good manners unlike the great Rahul Dravid.
