Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, along with several senior opposition MPs, were detained by Delhi Police on Monday morning during a protest march to the Election Commission’s office.

The opposition bloc alleges the poll body is siding with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Protest over election commission’s neutrality

The demonstration, organised by the INDIA bloc, aimed to submit a formal complaint to the Election Commission, questioning its impartiality in upcoming elections. Police said only 30 MPs were allowed to visit the poll body, but more than 200 showed up.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Devesh Kumar Mahla said officers intervened to prevent “any breakdown of law and order” as protesters attempted to cross barricades. “Some MPs tried jumping barricades and were also detained,” he added.

Rahul and Priyanka’s statements during detention

While being escorted to a police bus, Rahul Gandhi told reporters, “This fight is not political—it is to save the Constitution. The fight is for one person, one vote. We want a clean and accurate voter list.”

Priyanka Gandhi, also taken into custody, accused the government of fearing dissent. “They are afraid. The government is cowardly,” she said.

Footage from outside Parliament showed a large crowd of leaders and supporters waving placards, shouting slogans, and clashing with police barricades. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav was seen climbing over two barricades before being detained.

Police confirmed that detained leaders were taken to a nearby station. Opposition parties have vowed to continue their campaign, calling for electoral transparency and accountability ahead of polls.

If EC does vote chori, then why BJP could not win a full majority in last general election?

Why BJP never wins in states like West Bengal and Tamil Nadu?

I think there not much substance on these allegations and opposition simply doing dramebaazi.

Another blow for India's democracy.

When a ruling party arrests opposition leaders, you know the country has become a dictatorship.

Hopefully Rahul Gandhi/Congressis/other good Indians will liberate India from the evil of chaiwala Modi and his bhakts. If not, India may get invaded and balkanized.

You specifically put 'not cricket' because that is shown live and you will not be able to lie.

Rest all can be manufactured in social media

Is this news about Rahul Gandhi arrest true though?

Apart from Samaa TV quoted in OP, I dnt see any other news sites reporting it. Infact, Rahul Gandhi is live now in parliament as we speak.

Let me guess the RSS will hold Ghandi in a cell and then send in this man (yogi) to change his ways?

Rahul baba and his sister are the reason why Congress will never win any election in the future. This guy tried everything to win elections and failed miserably.

It's nothing but a drama.....

ED already filed chargesheet against Rahul and his mother sonia in 2000 crores national herald scam.... they knows they cant get away with this.. plus their jamai Robert vara also on trouble as he accepted 3.5 acres land as bribe and later sold it for 58 crores to DLF group....

That's why they are on the street to mislead Indian ppls

Chaiwala and his bhakts should be in jail. Not Rahul. Rahul seems like a decent fella.

Told you yesterday that whole '5 Pakistani jets downed by India' story was just a smokescreen to distract from the 'vote chori'. :inti

That's what it seems like. :inti

Modi is unqualified and incompetent to run a country. He belongs to a chai stall where he can serve chais to all the salty bhakts.

Since Modi doesn't have any qualification, he has to rely on fake news, anti-Muslim rhetories, anti-Congress rhetorics etc. He has no real policies.

He is not still realising how best to make a case.

The moment he steps down and Sachin Pilot becomes the leader, Congress will become a force.

The dumb guard of Congress is similar to old guard of BJP , they are not going anywhere under the Gandhis, like they weren't under Advanis etc.

Pilot would actually make coherent statements and address the issue without it backfiring on them, RAga would just get hit wicket again with his approach and articulation skills.
