First criteria for any kind of captain being rated correctly and incorrectly includes how many they win. It will take a lot for me to rate Australian captains because of the teams they play with all the time. You could have the proverbial grandma of Boycott as their captain and they’ll still win everything, as a team they have just been that good for a very long time.

For the Test captain, I’ll choose Kohli at the top - he did what nobody did during his reign- beat Australia in Australia, made the Indian team a strong force everywhere, and I believe he lost what, 1 out of 35-40 Tests at home??

The rest of them can jump up and down after that for all I care.

Smith is a very shrewd captain, I think they should give him the test captaincy for a bit and let Cummins continue as a 3 format player.
