India off-spinner R. Ashwin reiterated his view that it is very difficult to bowl the doosra legally and pointed out Pakistani off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq was one of the few who did it properly.

In a show on his YouTube channel, Ashwin was discussing the history of 'doosra' or the delivery bowled by an off-spinner that turns away from the right-handed batsman. Former South Africa team analyst Prasanna Agoram batted for relaxation in how much a bowler can bend his elbow to allow him to bowl the 'doosra'.

However, the India off-spinner felt that allowing such relaxations will open a can of worms and is also unfair on cricketers who learn it the right way from a young age.

"If you can bowl it cleanly like Saqlain Mushtaq, then there is no issue. But you can do that only while bowling at a slower pace which allows the batsman to pick it easily," Ashwin added.

He is correct. Ashwin is showing his intelligence again.

icc cracking down on chuckers was the greatest thing ever, they dont get much right, but got that spot on and cricket is better for it.

So indirectly told Harbhajan also....

They have been at loggerheads for long. Bhajji can stomach the fact Ashwin has been way more successful than him, and he has been vocal about it. Ashwin being the sophisticated himself, does it smooth.

This is the reason why Saqlain declined so rapidly because batsmen started reading his Doosra

saqi's little pause before he delivered the ball allowed him to bowl the doosra successfully, ever since then im afraid most of the bowlers including ajmal , saqi , narine etc chuck when it comes to the doosra.

Ashwin will be remembered as the guy who instigated crackdown in chuckers and revived debate on mankanding in favour of bowlers.

The guy's gonna be a very good coach or analyst in future and with like 500 test wickets behind him his cricketing legacy is going to be quite solid.

Bhajji the cricketer - loved the guy. He was a fighter for us.

But off the field and especially post retirement he's shown repeatedly he's not a very intelligent guy.

Bhajji was stubborn cricketer who gave 110% for us and I love him for it but that stubbornness in real life is a real deal breaker.

So true.

Same with Sehwag. Probably a north Indian Desi people thing.

But no doubt the guy left it all on the ground when he wore the Indian shirt. In a crisis situation, I even trusted Bhajji holding the bat for us. Such a fighter

Bhajji and Sehwag are not going to agree with this statement, maybe they are looking at Sreesanth and Krsihnamachari Srikanth

Glad you didnt call Saqi a cheater.

I spoke to Saqi back in 2002 and asked him to show me( and a few others) how he bowled it and his method involved the thumb, whereas the imitators used their wrist and it couldn't be done without the straightening of the elbow

This is the reason why Saqlain declined so rapidly because batsmen started reading his Doosra

His big problem was that he lost confidence in bowling a hard spun off spinner and the doosra wasn't a doosra but his only delivery

Amazing isnt it, the inventor and the only human on planet who can do it!!!!

I actually think the main reason for his decline was his knee injury. Saqi had an amazing sprint in his bowling run up in his peak days. The knee issue meant that he had to slow down his action which made him less effective.

After he showed it, I tried it and I could do it in my front room, flicking the ball with my thumb but bowling with a full action was a totally different ball game.

The knee injury obviously didn't help but he had been bowled to a standstill. His spinning finger looked like it had been chewed by a dog.

Not the right thing to club Srikanth with the likes of Bhajji and Sree. Srikanth was just a bit eccentric, that's all.

I understand what you mean, have great respect for K. Srikanth so not right and I take back Srikanth name.

My post was a reaction to this generalisation used about Harbhajan & Sehwag and that North Indian Desi people thing. Sounds immature to me, especially as I have worked in all four corners of India (except North East) and understood that culturally people may be different but this doesn't mean their work or contribution can be connected to culture and be generalised. For every Sreesanth there has been a Rahul Dravid or Srikanth too.

True. You can never generalize people on the basis of the regions they live in, languages they speak. North Indians are generally termed arrogant and brash while their southern counterparts are termed gentle and civilised.

For every Bhajji, there is Bhuvi and Kuldeep.
