Ashwin compared the hiatus of CSK (for betting offences) to the Manchester United plane crash (tragedy in 1958).

This is really stupid from Ashwin, how can you compare betting offences to a human tragedy in which lives were lost. Also, he's ill informed as there was no Hiatus for United, the club continued to run but used reserve and youth players.

What makes even the more shocking is that I've always viewed Ashwin as an intelligent person so he's the last one I'd expect this from.

I doubt anybody even remembers this team.

He tries to be way too smart for his own good. Learn to bowl outside the subcontinent first.

If there is one team across all T20 leagues in the world which has the most passionate, staunch supporters, it has to be CSK. It's not just a team; CSK is a brand. Even if Dhoni or Ashwin doesn't play for CSK, it will continue to garner support from it's home crowd.

well from news headline, he didn't compare csk hiatus (or whatever) to Manchester tragedy. he just meant csk will comeback strong just like United after that tragedy.

i don't know much about football but comparing a tragedy to getting banned for fixing is absolutely pathetic from ashwin.

peshawar zalmi too.

Why did the teams got banned in IPL ?
Actually I did not follow IPL much after first 2 seasons so can anyone tell us the reason to get banned .

Overrated & useless fellow first tell him to learn ball outside sub continent & he acts like he is too oversmart

Ridiculous, insensitive, absurb and utterly embarassing from Ashwin.

Seems like Fakhar Zamans phaintty affected more than just his economy rate.

Brain dead tone deaf stuff.

Couldn't agree more. A ridiculous and barbaric comparison from Ashwin.

"Yeah, 23 players died but the fans loved it and it was good for their share value in the long term!"

What an idiot.

And he's doubling down on it on Twitter.

He doesn't think he's said anything wrong, so he's both an idiot and a terrible person.

What a moronic thing to say, despite trying to get out of what he actually said.

Sometimes being too clever for your own good, isn't a positive aspect.

What an absolute embarrassment this guy is. It's not even the first time he has displayed his intellect on twitter. I remember him posting some rubbish like "If Bangladesh wins, Bangladeshis would be happy, if Oman wins the whole cricketing world would be happy!"

There is no difference between this guy and Sehwag except the fact that his vocab and command over English is a bit better than Sehwag due to which he is considered as some sort of a brainy guy when in reality he is just a goof who still hasn't learnt bowling when the conditions are not suiting him even after tons of experience. I hope he somehow gets dropped before the SA series rolls on otherwise we are looking at another disastrous outing overseas from this overrated guy.

Always tries to show himself bigger than what he actually is. This was lame and backed it up some more nonsense...

Never liked his personality for some reason. I always felt that the CSK and chennai lobby are the one who made this ordinary guy something big. Not to mention dhoni's unconditional support and also Sreeni maaman.

This 'ordinary' player was recently the number 1 test bowler in the world.

Don't think it was appropriate for him to defend his point here (even if justified).

A simple apology was the better option.

Well said. Respect.

Ordinary player who boosted his stats on tampered pitches.

What a stupid bunch of tweets, just making it worse.

He's completely incorrect in the stupid point he's trying to make anyway, as even after the Munich Disaster, Manchester United continued to play games.

i hate united as much as i hate india but this is absolutely rubbish from RA

What a gormless pr**k. Comparing the tragedy that befell The Busby Babes, with a pyjama outfit banned for corruption and fixing.

Aah.. CSK that team of fixers, I remember that. Lalit Modi keeps reminding that he has proof against Dhoni, Raina, Bravo and few others.
The owner Meiyappan, the Lord of all fixers still in jail? And his famous father-in-law who was once ICC chairman too, the mastermind of all the evils at CSK.

Why do you hate Man Utd? What has England's most successful club ever done to you for you to hate them? You must be a supporter of Leeds Utd, Liverpool or Man City - On second thoughts, maybe not Man City. Perhaps not even Liverpool. That must then mean Leeds Utd.

The best thing Ashwin can do now is apologize and move on.

Like most people I am very surprised by these comments. Stuff like this, you only expect from likes of Shehzad/Chota Akmal.

Here is some details of the tragic event:

The Munich air disaster occurred on 6 February 1958 when British European Airways flight 609 crashed on its third attempt to take off from a slush-covered runway at Munich-Riem Airport, West Germany. On the plane was the Manchester United football team, nicknamed the "Busby Babes", along with supporters and journalists.[1] Twenty of the 44 on the aircraft died at the scene. The injured, some unconscious, were taken to the Rechts der Isar Hospital in Munich where three more died, resulting in 23 fatalities with 21 survivors.

Please cite from where you are coming up with these ridiculous claims.
Ridiculous? You think they were suspended from the IPL because they were so good that they had to be banned in order to give the others a chance at winning it?

They certainly weren't banned for fixing, which is what you claimed.

Owners and officials secretly betting, with illegal bookies, on matches involving their own teams when its against the rules, especially owners and officials from one of the top teams, only ocurrs if those placing the bets know that the likelihood of them winning the bet is far greater than the odds they've been given. Meaning the game is fixed. Thus for a team to be banned due to betting on the team's games by their own officials and owners can only mean one this thing - the team itself was involved in fixing.

Ashwin feeling the heat...

AND he still continues to defend himself.

:))

Put your ego aside man. It was a senseless comparison.

Ashwin feeling the heat...

Maybe he didn't intend to mean any harm and was not informed as much with regards to the tragedy and its implications, he should just apologise and get over it; no harm done.

BUTBUTBUT I'M A BIG FAN.. LOL.. that's like the "BUTBUT I have black friends so I can't be a racist" nonsense.

Don't insult football with those rubbish teams - all about the Gunners!

Well that's all it is really. It's a franchise.

Ah..the Gunners. I thought most of your hate was reserved for Spurs? With a little bit saved for Chelski since the Rusky took over. But don't worry, Man Utd fans don't hate Arsenal ..... the same way they don't hate Aston Villa, or Sunderland, or QPR, or C.Palace.....because there's nothing to hate.

Wait 'till the next time India tour England if Ashwin is still in the team and he gets the full force of the english tabloid press,
