Ravichandran Ashwin and his team, Dindigul Dragons, have been accused by the Madurai Panthers of ball tampering during their Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) match on June 14, 2025. The Panthers allege that Ashwin’s team used towels treated with chemicals to alter the ball’s condition, making it heavier and causing a metallic sound when it hit the bat, despite repeated warnings during the match.
The TNPL CEO has acknowledged the complaint but demanded concrete evidence from Madurai to support the allegations. He stated that an independent committee would be formed if there was substance to the claims, but warned that Madurai could face sanctions if they fail to provide proof. The use of towels is permitted in the TNPL to dry the ball due to monsoon conditions, but only with league-provided towels under umpire supervision.
In the match, Dindigul Dragons easily chased down Madurai’s total, with Ashwin contributing 49 runs as an opener. Earlier in the season, Ashwin was fined for dissent against an umpiring decision
