Tanvir Ahmed 7 4 8 1
Shahid Afridi 3 1 2 0

Afridi won the toss and put Federal Areas into bat first.
Federal Areas 66/4 after 29 Overs

Nice Start Lala, hope you fire with the bat and the selectors and having a close eye on the future captain :P

Yasir Arafat
Rao Iftikhar(c)
Sohail Tanvir
Shoaib Akhtar

Definitely not a bad bowling line-up (fitness and motivation permitted) - will be interesting to see how they get on.

Great stuff by Sind and their bowling attack.

Feds look to have a powerful attack of their own, should be interesting.

I think it would have been quite appropriate if Shahid Afridi was in the team named "Federal Areas"

Federal Areas squad:

Raheel Majeed
Umair Khan
Umar Amin
Bazid Khan
Naveed Qureshi
Usman Saeed
Yasir Arafat
Naeem Anjum(wk)
Rao Iftikhar(c)
Sohail Tanvir
Shoaib Akhtar

Sindh squad:

Khurram Manzoor
Khalid Latif
Naumanullah
Faisal Iqbal
Shahid Afridi(c)
Fawad Alam
Sarfraz Ahmed(wk)
Rizwan Ahmed
Sohail Khan
Anwar Ali

Sindh squad looks stronger. ALL their players have played for Pakistan at the international level!
While the Federal squad only has Tanvir, Akhtar, Rao, Arafat and Bazid who have played international.

Plus they have Shahid Afridi, who's a wolf warrior.

and a rather incompetent international player :afridi
Just you wait till we have a proper coach and he's made captain

We'll see the same 70 off 30 innings that we saw last year :D

Plus he's our best "spinner", if you count 85mph lightning thunderbolts as such.

DM, you know he's better.
You're right once again i was slightly off. He's a singularity point.

Any updates guys? Which websites are you getting your updates from?

I really want to know how the express pacers (Sohail Khan, Akhtar, Anwar Ali), Rao 'Tuxedo' Iftikhar and the Psychologically Unhinged Brontosaurus is doing.

i'm getting my updates from cricdb, but it's only updating the score like every hour?

^ i know. the score has been 154-5 there since almost 2 hours now
they don't update it

Many thanks guys

now hope they update the thing!

Sindh have a very long batting lineup, it will be almost impossible to get their 20 wickets.

Batsmen put NWFP in command

At 88 for 5, Federal Areas had been in danger of being bowled out on the first day of Pentangular Cup action in Karachi, but an unbeaten 103 from Usman Saeed ensured they finished with a respectable 270 for 9 against Sind.

Sind's trio of medium-pacers - Sohail Khan, Anwar Ali and Tanvir Ahmed - did the early damage after captain Shahid Afridi put the opposition in. Umar Amin's 48 was the only substantial contribution from the top order before he was lbw to Tanvir, but Saeed, at No. 6, found support from allrounders Yasir Arafat (27) and Sohail Tanvir (45).

The sixth and seventh wickets added 67 and 73 to put up a fight, but Tanvir Ahmed dismissed both Arafat and Tanvir, who hit seven fours, to keep his team in control. Naeem Anjum was out first ball to give Tanvir Ahmed his fifth wicket. Saeed, though, put on 33 with captain Iftikhar Anjum, and will resume batting on the second day with Shoaib Akhtar. Saeed's 103 came off 186 deliveries, with 14 fours.

NWFP 293 for 2 (Raees 122*, Wajid Ali 82, Hameed 72) v Baluchistan
Scorecard

There was an unbeaten century in Quetta as well, but North West Frontier Province's top order capitalised after Umar Gul chose to bat. The top three batsmen managed half-centuries, and two of them would perhaps be regretting not converting it to a big score.

Left-hand opener Adnan Raees was the successful one; he finished the day on 122 not out as NWFP scored 293 in their 90 overs for the loss of two wickets. Yasir Hameed, the former international, did the bulk of the scoring as NWFP's openers rattled up 104. His 72 needed just 78 balls, but he was out caught off left-arm spinner Saeed Anwar jnr.

The rate of scoring reduced with Hameed's fall, but runs came none the less for NWFP. Before he was bowled by Abdur Rauf on 82, Wajid Ali added 181 for the second wicket with Raees. Both batsmen scored at a strike-rate less than 50; Baluchistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq used seven bowlers in 90 overs.

I seriously wish the answer is No

Bit of a blooper for Shahid there, letting the opposition slip from 66 to 200 odd. He should elevate himself up the order tomorrow and look to seize the momentum back from the opposition.

hope Akhtar tomorrow bowls atleast 15 overs in the day Insh'Allah and alos i really want Anwar ali, Sohail Khan and Arafat to really show their class...Arafat deserves to play against the WI

Federal Areas 322 All Out, looks a good total, lets see how Sind Batting responds

Akhtar didnt run much, 18 runs, 2 sixes and a four :P

Sind 83/1 after 23 Overs
Shoaib Akhtar 10-1 in 4 overs, i hope he didn't break down (bowled just 4 overs out of 23)

Thats fair, he's probably easing into it.

Afridi & Co kinda struggling at 128/3 after 41.
Lala is due next, make or break situation for him

Don't worry bhanja will pull us out of this mess. :miandad

You know its really embarrassing to see just 9 overs from Akhtar when Tanvir and the other bowler has bowled 20 and 19 respectively. Is he even taking these games seriously? No way should he be selected based on this performance.

wow. Afridi scored 17 off "-" balls, with "-" sixes and "-" fours.

Akhtar should have bowled more, but Rao is a clever being so must be using him as a shock bowler. Or, he is just not fit enough.

Even the PCB aren't taking this tournament seriously otherwise they would be giving this tournament some good coverage by updating the scores on their site atleast!

woah, afridi actually had a strike rate of under 100.
17 off 21 balls with 2 destructive, monsterous fours.

Amazing match so far, man I miss the 4-day version of the game

I still think the Beast will lead his team to victory

:afridi needs to pull himself together and give a good performance. Bowling himself more may help.

Does anyone know the points system for this tournament?
If the match is drawn, the team with first innings lead gets more points?

9 overs from Akhtar aint good enough..should have had atleast another 6 overs...hope he bowls more tomorrow as 9 overs is not very comforting for us fans

Afridi poor batting contiunes but hopefully he quicly gets back into touch

Afridi got out to Tanvir!!! not just any old bowler

even if Afridi gave u his blood, u wouldnt be happy

13 overs 2 for 42 isnt bad Savak.
Considering PPer's views that he couldnt bowl more than 10 overs in a day, at least he's not injured, and took a couple of wickets.
Anyhoo, this is to no avail, the man-bull wolf-man will guide his team to victory.

He is capable of bowling 15 overs a day. I dont mind him bowling in short 3-4 over bursts with the occassional extra over or two if the situation demands it but it is inexcusable for one bowler bowling just 9 overs while the other bowlers bowling 20, 19 and 14 over's respectively. That isnt fair.

He needs over's under his belt. Period.

13 overs over two days. Yesterday he bowled 9 overs in 4 spells. 9 overs in 4 spells!

That's pathetic as it forces the likes of Tanvir to bowl 28 overs severely increasing the risk of injury.

Hmm, maybe he'll increase workload over the Pentangular Cup.
Inshallah :19:

He'll have to. As Savak said, he has to be able to bowl at least 15 overs a day to even be considered for selection in the longer format of the game. It's up to him to put in the effort now

Going back to the game, and an excellent effort from Sindh to take a vital first innings lead. Those points at least, are in the bag and the rest of the game is set up very nicely.

Federal Areas: 322 all out

Sindh: 367 all out

Sir Rao bowled twenty clean overs for two delightfully crisp wickets, conceding only 61 runs. Even after Sindh has captured a first innings lead, this gleeful parody of unparalleled brilliance wears a brave face and promises to recite a poem of Shakespearean melodiousness, further intensifying the poetic, inspirational, graceful way he commits to his cricket.

Is any channel showing this?
Any Pakistani channel, even? I'll find links for it online...

Some things never change...and yet his supporters keep finding new excuses!

Lol i did not defend him on this occasion but Saleem Jaffar the chief selector did.

I was referring to another poster who was trying to make excuses for Shoaib's pathetic display (overs bowled wise) in this game!

For Saleem Jaffar and his comments about Shoaib, see that thread for a message from me!

:))

Rao Ifthikar must be broken.

230 ahead with 9 wickets in hand and one day to go. Probably an early declaration and then they'll have a go at the Sindh team.

230 not quite enough though. They will have to bat for another hour or so and look to get another 50-70 runs and declare setting Sindh 280+ in 2 and a half sessions.

Gives enough time for all three results. Should be an exciting day tomorrow.
