What a beautiful movie, I expected it to be good but it exceeded my expectations. This is how you do sci-fi ! This is how you do Action / Adventure !

It was visually spectacular, a brilliant narrative and characters which didn't need to be A-Lister's for you to get emotionally invested in them given how well they were developed. It just captured that feel good X-Factor which made Spielberg's name through his blockbuster releases in the past.

Also enjoyed the nostalgic pop culture references, they blended in quiet well. Get out and see it while you can, I believe it will appeal to young and old :afridi :najam

Spielberg has always had a great imagination for sci fi/films based in the future.

Did this film also have the comedy value as Back to the Future movies?

Maybe comedy value not on that level but there is some decent humour in there and BTTF references as well, some of the major scenes were shot in digbeth / jewellery quarter you will recognise the streets instantly

KingKhanWC If you get the chance watch this in IMAX 3D at Cineworld, I watched it in 2D but regret it now. Generally I always prefer 2D or IMAX 2D, but on Broad St only IMAX 3D is available for this movie but I think it is worth it for Ready Player One and will make the experience even more enjoyable

Seen the delorean in the trailer. If Bham is shown in there, will watch it this week. Thanks

Didn't like it. Don't get me wrong. It was great watching all those characters I've loved for so many years, on the big screen and there was one specific horror movie scene I don't want to spoil that I thought was amazing. But that's it. Overall the plot was thin and characters were mediocre. The pop culture references are all it had going for it and that isn't a substitute for a quality script which Spielberg movies usually have

None of my friends are coming for it, guess would watch it alone or probably pass lets see.

I will go for it soon and I disagree. Spielberg has not returned. He has always been there. He can go from serious film to escapist entertainment with alarming comfort. Same guy made Jaws, Indiana Jones and Schindler's List. What a genius!

Yes he has always been there, never meant returned as in returned to form but returned as in a new release. I think you will like the movie, he found the perfect balance; see it in IMAX 2D

Surprised you don't like it, maybe your expectations were very high but in this era he needed to adapt in order to make money so a complex plot was not going to be there and you don't always get one with these type of movies. Am comparing it relative to others in the genre right now and this was a lot more enjoyable for me

Marketing and advertising for this movie could have been better, I think they may have focussed more on China though

Is it really that good? I saw the trailer months back and it looked pretty standard, plus the idea of gaming in it seemed rather 1980s and games have moved SO FAR from that.

Might give it a watch but just because theres a cinema near me doing a fiver a ticket lol

This movie is basically 80% references and Easter eggs from what I’ve seen, might give it a watch, not sure though.

Trust me it's worth a watch you will enjoy it, it doesn't have the hype behind it but is way better then the pound shop incarnations in the same genre starring Dwayne Johnson

It was very enjoyable for me am not saying it is a movie of the year candidate but one of the best in the genre in recent times, often you will find hidden gems like this which don't have as much hype behind them but they turn out to be pretty decent

I watched it on Friday night and was pleasantly surprised. I didn't expect much from it, but it was actually quite a good watch.

I really enjoyed the references to the millennial culture and in general, it was a good old school movie.

It was hilarious to see the likes of Goro and Halo characters running around.

Same here didn't have overly high expectations but knew Spielberg would do a decent job, it was a lot of fun

this movie has HUGE hype behind it lol

but I'll try it for a fiver

Barely any in the UK, most have opted for Tomb Raider

I'm not talking about what most have watched (TRs been out for at least a week longer anyway) I'm talking about all the TV ads, entertainment news reports and bus/bus stop ads. Outside of Black Panther, I cant think of a more hyped movie this year.

No where near as many people have been receptive to that advertising you speak off which also has been mostly focused in China

I saw the trailer and it didn't impress me at all. Seemed like another attempt to cash in on the 80's sci-fi nostalgia done to death by Stranger Things, It follows etc. The studios must have thought, who is better to milk this trend than the guy who invented it in the first place.

Sadly, Spielberg is over and done with. He has long become irrelevant, a shadow of himself.

Trailers are hardly the best metric to judge the movie but with such a negative attitude you would probably not like it anyway, Spielberg's legend will liver forever though and this movie is a reminder of his greatness

Ok, I'll check it out then. I think the last Dwayne Johnson movie I saw was San Andreas, which was actually pretty decent.

He just keeps doing the same movies, I've only watched him in the mummy movies and short clips of the fast / furious series. Jumanji was one his films I was meant to see because it seemed like something a bit different and had good reviews. But for someone with his experience and all the money he has made I'd have thought he'd be capable of better performances / branched out but maybe he can't get those projects, Batista while he got into the industry a bit late has already put together a CV with superior performances which is why he tends to get gigs across different genre's and roles.

Read the book first. While watching I was irritated constantly as the screenplay was totally off. This does normally happen with movies, but not to this extent. Although with that being said, movie was great, with fantastic effort from Spielberg's directing!

Sometimes, you are lucky you haven't seen/heard of a movie and you bump into it all of a sudden, and feel like you've unearthed a treasure trove! This, my friend is a feeling like that!

Thank you for sharing this. I am so glad I was oblivious to this movie. Now planning to watch it!

Bit of a meh.... pretty silly to show people living in 2045 in junk yard skyscrapers from mad max type film and yet hooked to VR.
A private company goes around killing and enslaving people and not a policeman in sight. Then suddenly at the end police shows up....
