Teams

West Indies: KC Brathwaite, KOA Powell, SO Hetmyer, SD Hope, VA Singh, SO Dowrich†, RL Chase, JO Holder*, D Bishoo, AS Joseph, ST Gabriel

Pakistan: Azhar Ali, Ahmed Shehzad, Babar Azam, Younis Khan, Misbah-ul-Haq*, Asad Shafiq, Sarfraz Ahmed†, Mohammad Amir, Yasir Shah, Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Abbas

The West Indies batsmen were understandably cautious to start on Day 5 with Amir and Yasir bowling in tandem and looking to pick up where they left off yesterday. Amir was the one to make the breakthrough, getting Singh bowled as he misjudged an incoming delivery and was bowled. The nightwatchman Bishoo fought hard, grinding it out while hitting the occasional boundary away. The first bowling change saw Abbas replace Amir and it soon bore fruit as poor shot from Bishoo saw him give away his wicket to a catch in the slips. Two balls later, the pacer set up Dowrich with a straight delivery and he played all around it and was LBW. Chase and Holder held out for a while, looking to form a partnership and it was another bowling change that delivered the wicket as Holder played a poor shot off Wahab and was dismissed. Yasir wrapped up the innings with the last two wickets with Joseph LBW and then Gabriel caught going for a big shot as Pakistan were set a small total of 32 to win.

Pakistan's chase did not begin well as Shehzad poked at a delivery outside off and nicked it to the wicket-keeper in just the third over. The next over saw Azhar dismissed as well as he tried to leave one but was late to move his bat out of the way, inadvertently guiding the ball onto his stumps. With under 20 runs remaining to win, there was some confusion as Lunch was taken. Soon after the start, Younis played around one that was pitched at the stumps, missed and was LBW. However, Misbah took care of the rest, coming and hitting consecutive sixes to finish the match.

Fall of wickets:

5-110 (Singh, 35.5 ov)
6-129 (Bishoo, 43.1 ov)
7-129 (Dowrich, 43.3 ov)
8-151 (Holder, 51.3 ov)
9-152 (Joseph, 52.1 ov)
10-152 (Gabriel, 52.4 ov)

1-7 (Ahmed Shehzad, 2.4 ov)
2-7 (Azhar Ali, 3.1 ov)
3-24 (Younis Khan, 10.2 ov)

Congratz guys.

But no resting on our laurels ... gotta get the 3-0.

Hasan in for Wahab who has been useless.

Hafeez for Shezad because we need a fifth bowler.

So glad we won this even so much time was lost to rain.

Expect more rain as well so good to be in the lead.

Excellent win, good bowling as a unit in both inns. Am glad amir got a big wicket haul in 1st inns and yasir in the 2nd. Also even though we batted slowly 1st inns the importance of a big 1st inns lead was acheived which won us the game. Hopefully we can go on and win 1st test series in w.i from here.

Pleased that we forced a result despite the rain interruptions. A great start to the series, hopefully we're on our way to breaking the barren run in the Carribean.

Not sure why the curator prepared a pitch tailor-made for Yasir Shah. Was offering turn and uneven bounce on Day 4 and an inexperienced WI batting lineup couldn't handle him.

Very encouraging that Amir and Yasir will have gained real confidence from this after a torrid Australia tour. Abbas had a decent debut.

Batting-wise, we made it look like hard work, we really dug in and did well to cross 400 albeit aided by some sloppy fielding. Vital to see Babar, Younis, Misbah and Sarfraz amongst the runs after lean patches in Test recently.

Wahab has to go though with his replacement either being Hasan Ali or one of the spinners depending on the conditions.

Good win especially due to the lost day

I left the match when Windies folded and to be honest I'm a bit disappointed to see that we lost 3 wickets

Seems like a typical nervy Pakistani chase which we fumbled big time.

Azhar and Shehzad both failed to deliver

Drop Wahab and bring in Hasan in.

A fast bowling Line up of Hasan, Amir and Abbas looks really good.

I think that Abbas can become a good new ball partner wiith Amir. He can move it both ways of the seam and in the air only got to be a bit more consistent with is line and length.

Great win. Fully expected a draw after day 2 was rained out but very please to see the boys coming through.

Need a fifth bowler big time, but that really isn't happening until YK and Misbah leave. Shafiq should ideally make way for Shadab while Hasan for Wahab should be considered (provided the former regains fitness). However, both changes are not happening.

Shehzad getting dropped and then everyone moving up could accomodate Shadab, but unsettling the entire line-up is not worth it IMO.

Wahab has been our best Test pacer prior to this series (as much as we all hate to admit it) and so I'd be tempted to give him the next two Tests or atleast the next Test to be fair (before dropping him). He can actually work in a 5-man attack. However, in a 4-man attack, having Wahab as one of your bowlers is too much of a risk and so I wouldn't mind Hasan coming in for him at all.

Good victory, we shouldn't get complacent now and rather should look for a 3-0 win.

Lovely win. I did say in another post that the West Indies batsman dont have the mental strength to bad long in a test match. They did not prove me wrong. As long Pakistan do not get complacent, it could very well be a first test series win in the West Indies.

WEST INDIES FINED FOR SLOW OVER-RATE IN JAMAICA TEST

West Indies has been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during the first Test in Jamaica, which Pakistan won by seven wickets on Tuesday.

Chris Broad of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees imposed the fine after Jason Holder’s side was ruled to be one over short of its target when time allowances were taken into consideration.

In accordance with Article 2.5.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minor over-rate offences, players are fined 10 per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, with the captain fined double that amount.

As such, Holder been fined 20 per cent of his match fee, while his players have received 10 per cent fines. If West Indies commits another minor over-rate breach in a Test within 12 months of this offence with Holder as captain, it will be deemed a second offence by Holder and he will face a suspension.

Holder pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing.

The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Richard Illingworth and Richard Kettleborough, third umpire Bruce Oxenford and fourth umpire Gregory Brathwaite.
